In an on-air report for ESPN News, Buster Olney said he cannot find a GM, outside of the Dodgers, who will say they have interest in signing Manny Ramirez.
However, according to SI.com’s Jon Heyman, while speaking to WFAN, ‘the Yankees are in on Ramirez.’
Speaking of hitters…
Jon Heyman of SI.com talked to two high-
ranking officials who believe Mark Teixeira will end up signing a 10–year, $200 million deal.
That said, the Nationals have made a seven-year, $150 million offer to Teixeira, reports Yahoo! Sports.
The Washington Post believes the Angels, Red Sox, Nationals and Orioles will compete for Teixeira, while Heyman seems to feel the Red Sox will eventually sign him.
According to FoxSports.com, Teixeira would prefer to sign with a team on the East Coast, to be closer to his family.

MAKE TEX A MET! Then trade Delgado for a starter…. maybe to Tampa? would be a good fit
if the red sox makes a slightly better offer then Teixera will sign in a heartbeat….
I’m praying an AL team will sign Teixeira to get him the hell away from the Mets—the dude hit over .500 against us last year, in not even a full season of play and also torched Mets’ pitching in ‘07 after Atlanta traded for him.
I can take him abusing our pitching for three games max, next year, either with Boston or Baltimore.
But the 18 shots he’d have at us as a National is way too much.
Omar get interested. Bring in Manny the RBI Machine.
screw the yankees
for the record Teixera is not worth the money.. yeaa he can field, he can put up 30-35hr + and 100rbi + but i mean is it really worth 22-23 million a year???
I just got an idea, maybe the mets should sign Tex!
MRenz: Tampa Bay can’t afford Delgado and we can’t afford Teixeira.
Plus, the Rays already have Carlos Pena and are trying to sign Milton Bradley (who I’d like to see the Mets sign, then trade Ryan Church for pitching). Delgado will come through with the big numbers he did last year.
Matt, thanks for keeping everyone updated on Tex.
the Nationals?!?! Really?!?! The guy one year salary’s will be much higher then the entire team combined.
field 1B, 30 HR, 100 RBI…switch hitter…sounds like a fit to me.
We don’t sign him, ok…but why not try? I mean, obvioulsy it would Delagado’s “feelings” if we tried and failed…but he’s here for one more year…tell him this is a business, you get paid 16 million, you don’t get paid to hold grudges.
Seaver41, we can afford Tex, we’re just choosing not too. Tex would only cost about 8-10 million more than Delgado will this year and only about 4 million more than Delgado cost most of the time he was here. And with the money off the books the increase in revenue and the stadium money there is really no financial reason for them not to be able to afford Tex.
Seaver41, the Mets can not afford not to sign Teixeira.
Although if we can’t sign him it would be awesome to see him as a Red Sox. A team with Jason Bay or J.D Drew as their 4th outfielder? That’s just insane.
Gina:
I agree. The Mets should make a push for Tex and then try to deal Delgado, maybe to an AL team who needs a DH
Also expecting Delgado to come near what he did in the second half last year is just insane. It would be awesome for it to happen but it’s ridiculous to go into the season counting on it.
I hope he comes to us or stays in Anaheim…I live in Boston, so I couldn’t stand him on their team or the Yanks.
And Gina, while I agree with you, get ready for it.
ugh.. I’m not even going to start..
I thought our 2008 1st rounder Ike Davis was our 1B of the future ;)
btw, anyone hear any updates on his progression?
According to FoxSports.com, Teixeira would prefer to sign with a team on the East Coast, to be closer to his family.
so by december 26th #25 WILL BE HERE!!!!
10 years 200 mln is ridiculous. No way!
Hubie, in a few years that 20M p/y will be a bargain for a hitter like Tex.
on wfan.com they have a thing about Steinspawn liking him
I love how much effort people are taking to talk about Tex and the Mets when it could not be more obvious that they simply are not in this thing.
Look, they will be hard-pressed to outbid the Red Sox. The Angels are the incumbents. And the Nats and O’s are “home” for him. It wouldn’t happen.
It is just staggering how, with this level of demand, the Braves mismanaged their acquisition and trade of him.
Tex would be a great addition both on offense and defense. Come on Omar, get involved!!!
I can’t believe that there has been no consideration by Omar about putting Tex in that infield and lineup. Not even a peep other than from bloggers. It’s too much of a coincidence not to have a 1st basemen knicknamed Tex when you had one of the best, known as Mex. I guess the problem is having a deal in place to move Delgado as soon as you get Tex’s name on a contract. I have been thinking of Delgado back to AL and Toronto with Heilman getting some relief pitching, to free up 1st base. 1st might not be a pressing need this year, but what about next year, unless you tell me that the Mets can get Adrian Gonzalez. I like Tex better.
And another thing, Tex helps change “the core” as the Grand Poobah wants them to do. I would send Wilpon’s jet to pick up Keith and fly him to meet with Tex. I can see the headline now “MEX TELLS TEX “COME BREAK HEX!”
