News: K-Rod News, Sooner than Later
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 10, 2008 4:35 pm

Omar Minaya is expected to speak with reporters from the Bellagio some time in the next hour or so.

my guess is he will announce Francisco Rodriguez passed his physical and is officially the newest member of the Mets…

Rodriguez toured Citi Field today following his physical, while wearing a Mets cap and jacket, alongside the team’s COO Jeff Wilpon.

SNY will air exclusive video of Rodriguez’s tour of Citi Field during tonight’s Mets Hot Stove show at 7 pm.

By the way, the Mets apparently told reporters this morning that Rodriguez would like to wear No. 17.

Update, 4:58 PM:

According to Adam Rubin, in a report for the Daily News, the Mets are expected to hold a news conference next Wednesday to introduce Rodriguez.

However, adds Rubin, “With Citi Field not ready to host press conferences, the location of next week’s event is unclear.”

mets dont wear a red shirt inside hehe.

  3. LetsGoMets123 says:

For GODS sakes can the Mets finally retire #17. All hail Keith Hernandez.

  4. mrose says:

yea, that jersey looks funny since one sleeve is a mets jersey, the other is an angels jersey.

  5. blains2008 says:

I’m worried about taking 17 away from Tatis as I feel that is the main reason he became so clutch. :-)

  6. usodcmx says:

Great news…finally! Now we need to concentrate on giving Manny Ramirez a tour of Citi Field as well. How about Michael Young from the Rangers?

  7. jlaz89 says:

    No 17, that’s Keith’s number

  8. roman411 says:

The conversation went something like this…

“Fernando. I’ll give you a Timex and buy you a couple of hot dogs once Citi Field opens for the # 17?”

“Frankie, throw in a Mr. Met pen and it’s all yours!”

  9. Snort-It-Like-Keith says:

Yes all hail Keith … forget that let K-Rod wear it.

  10. ksuth says:

Roman, I bet Tatis would ask for Frankie to make a donation to the church he built in exchange for the number.

  11. Stem Ad says:

So, when and where can we begin to buy our K-Rod jerseys!? I had my Santana custom made a month before he sighned, but K-Rod is making this hard on me… Lets get him a number!

  12. K-Rod’s new to the whole Mets thing.

  13. krod9 says:

I’m shivering just thinking of this image.

  14. zen says:

    1. koo dae-sung will always be #17 to me

    2. jesus was just released by the nationals. i can he omar bringing him in for the bullpen: 4.31 era last year and 3.8e in 2007.

  15. ksuth says:

I think 55 would be a good fit for K-Rod…

  16. vic79 says:

    wooot

alright how about a sweeeet deal with Pittsburgh now

Some may shoot me but I would be willing to do Capps and Wilson for Heilman, Castillo, Evans

  17. tjones28 says:

They should sooooo just make #17 jerseys that say K-ROD on the back. They would probably sell way more than the ones that say Rodriguez on them.

  18. steadyeddie says:

I’ll be attacked for this of course; but I expected a lot more than signing KRod from these meetings.
Signing KRod has been a given for some time.
    Just a question of numbers…..
    Let the attacks begin!

  19. Snort-It-Like-Keith says:

How many times is Keith going to being up that #17 is a hitters number next season lol.

  20. egnirc says:

Would be a mess if he took #13 from Wags.

2 #13 Rodriguez’ in NY would be weird.

  21. Snort-It-Like-Keith says:

Not to much went down in the meetings … The Mets will do plenty more I am sure of it.

  22. shannon says:

    I thought Tatis was #17

  23. Snort-It-Like-Keith says:

The only big names to sign were CC and K-Rod and I guess Wood. Players are not getting the money they thought they would hence why not too many signings. I mean the Mets got K-Rod for less money then they gave Wags.
I think plenty of more actions is still to come this offseason.

  24. Flushing_is_Burning says:

Keith’s number has been handed out like cracker jack.

  25. Johan The Ace says:

We have had so much luck with 17 games the last few years.. right?? 17??

  26. mrmet4 says:

I wish he would wear number 62…for his record save total…thatd be awesome

  27. yagattabelieve says:

    Maybe he’ll grow a Stache…………….

  28. DonHahn1 says:

With all the money they saved on K-Rod, I definately expect a whole lot more!

  29. Maineiac says:

    No number 17, UGH!

Welcome to New York, where if you don’t perform, we’ll rip your head off, chew it, spit it out, and ask that you be traded.

But in general we are very nice, :)

  30. Gina says:

Same DonHahn. K-rod should be just the beginning.

  31. tjones28 says:

He should wear #38 for the amount of millions of dollars he didn’t get that he thought he was going to.

  32. tjones28 says:

    Or the difference anyway…

  33. saltygary says:

From now on if folks want to wear #17 they need to smoke cigarettes and blow lines before and after the games. No lines no #17. Keith rules!

  34. gipper82475 says:

    No to 17!

    Retire 17!!!!

  35. Bruce Boisclair says:

I vote for #77— funky, and imposing.

    17 doesn’t strike me as a closer’s #.

  36. mistermet says:

Nobody cares, we know. Just get more players.

  37. mistermet says:

Spend some more $$$, and then you can have some big press conferences. If this is our “big” move this offseason, it’ll be 3rd place for the Mets.

  38. IWantManny/Krod4Christmas says:

does anyone know if they will still show krod touring citi field on the report tonight at 7?

  39. GravediggerHebner says:

    from Matt’s post above:
