CC Sabathia’s deal from the Yankees includes an opt-out clause after 2011, through which he will earn $69 million, otherwise the deal is worth $161 million over seven years, writes Tim Brown and Gordon Edes at Yahoo! Sports.
Speaking of starting pitchers…
The major road block keeping Jake Peavy from being sent to Chicago is the Cubs inability to trade RHP Jason Marquis to a third team, along with the $10 million due to him in 2009, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Remember, on Sunday in the Star-Ledger, Dan Graziano said the Mets declined to trade Marquis for Aaron Heilman, ‘because they were trying to use Heilman in other deals.’
Meanwhile, the Cubs have discussed trading infielder Mark De Rosa to the Twins, reports the Star Tribune, most likely in an effort to cut payroll, again for Peavy.
Also, the Phillies are involved in talks with the Cubs and Padres, writes the Philadelphia Daily News, with Kyle Kendrick’s name being linked to San Diego.

haha, 3 years @ 23 million a year. only in the bronx.
and is Kendrick going to be traded to Japan again? lol
Why don’t the Cubs just admit they are really paying other teams to get Peavy to them, it would make it much easier that way.
It looks like Heilman will be traded for a setup man or a back end starting pitcher. Perhaps in some sort of package for Street, Rauch or Jenks. If they trade him for a starting picther I hope it isin a package to the Rays for Jackson or Sonnastine.
The rox wont take Heilman for Street (why I don’t know, because they still like Heilman and are accepting offers for Street). I think if we can get Sonnanstine for Heilman, ink that deal immediately.
I’d take Marquis if they gave us Derosa with him
Would the Cubs want Castillo at all? (seems doubtful).
I read somewhere that if they get Peavy, Harden may become available. I would trade Heilman in that deal– who else would the Cubs want?
I agree… I would take Sonnanstine for Heilman…
4 years $66M fior Lowe is insane…
But then again, the Yankees are angry they did not make the playoffs last season… This is how they respond…
It would probably take more than Heilman to land Sonnastine…..perhaps Heilman and Evans…maybe a third player as well
Maybe not…Heilman and an Evans/Carp-like player may get it done. It’s Sonnanstine…not Price lol
Brian Cashman is the best G.M. in the Majors!
Everyone should learn from him, what a genius!
I wish Omar was more like him.
(sarcasm)
delgado for sonnanstine straight up, then heilmann and prospect for street, then sign sheets and cordero and then get #25… LOL i said that like 10 times the last 2 days i know..

LMAO…
when the boss tells you, get me all the pitchers without looking at money as an issue my daughter can be a GM!!!
Sonnanstine has very good numbers, is cheap and young. It will take a decent package to get that in this market. That being said I would trade Heilman and Evans easily for him.
And a Marquis, Derosa for Heilman and Show/Endy makes a lot of sense for the Mets.
If I had unlmited funds I’d sign Sabathia and Lowe… However, I would steer clear of Burnett and Sheets (long term)…
specially coz that means we will regardless of anything dump castillo..
No way we give up Endy! Was this a joke comment?
Derosa isnt coming here unless we lose Castillo…that aint happening. So get Sonnanstine, seems like Heilman and Parnell has been mentioned on this. Do it.
If Heilman goes to get a SP then we HAVE to sign a set up guy from FA. Beimel…get on that fast!
Most likely we would not dump Castillo if we got Derosa. They are not going to just release him.
Derosa would be the Murphy complement playing LF and backing up Castillo.
So you would not trade Endy for Derosa? LOL. Are you joking or just in love with a meaningless catch?
Look at Endy’s stats, yes he is a good 9th inning defender but that’s no where near as valuable as having a guy like Derosa that can play every IF position and play the corner OF positions with that kind of bat.
And since when did Derosa have a choice where he goes? He was a utility guy in Chicago and can be one here.
CASTILLO for my lunch bag right now straight up??
I like the idea of trading Delgado for pitching, then either going after Texeira or moving Murphy to first, then trying to trade Castillo to the Dodgers for Andruw Jones and putting him in left, moving Murphy or Tatis (both actual infielders) to second and trading Heilman for relief while signing Cordero and another piece or two. Then do something with Schneider and trade Jon Niese and possibly someone else to Texas for either Max Ramirez or Salty. Solid overhaul I think would turn out very well.
Endy for DeRosa.
Heilman for Sonnanstine.
Castillo for Pujols (may have to throw in Scho).
I wish we were in on the Peavy talks, but we might have to give up Raul Casanova.
Does anyone here realize the actual value of any Mets players? The ones we are willing to trade are all terrible.
I did not know Marquis would earn 10 mil next season. TRS, would you still want him at 10 Mil?
I think there are much better options for #5 starter at better price
