MDEMAIO,
IBANEZ IS A SOLID BALL PLAYER NO DOUBT, YES HE HAD THOSE NUMBERS LAST YEAR OVER RAMIREZ, HOWEVER, RAMIREZ ALMOST SINGLE HANDEDLY LED THE DOGERS INTO THE PLAYOFFS, THIS MY FRIEND IS NOT SOME FLUKE.
I SUGGEST YOU TAKE A LONG HARD LOOK AT MANNY RAMIREZ'S LIFE TIME STATS ESPECIALLY HIS EYE POPPING 411 OBP, 314 BA, 527 HR ETC COUPLED WITH THE FACT THAT HE'S PRODUCED IN HIGH PRESSURE SITUATIONS ETC.
AGAIN IBANEZ IS A SOLID PLAYER BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE THERE IS ONLY ONE PLAYER COMPARABLE TO MANNY'S YR IN ,YR OUT, OUT PUT AND I SAY THIS RELUCTANTLY HIS NAME IS ALEX RODRIGUEZ.

Bobby Abreu's still availible. Johan's expressed that he wants him to play for the Mets. From Bobby's point of view, not having to move would be preferred. And the Yankees have too many corner OF + DH spots filled. He won't require any draft pick compensation. This Ibanez deal will set a floor for Abreu. He said he wanted 3 year/45 million before? He won't get anywhere near that in this market. Instead, he'll probably get around 2 year/20 million or 3 year/27 million. For 2 years, he's probably worth the gamble because that's about the same amount of time it'll take for F-Mart to be ready.

Texeira won't end up a Met. Just look at the competition out there. Hitting is not the problem for the Mets. They ranked 3rd in the NL. Ibanez will just replace Burrell so I'd expect them the Phillies to remain the same once Utley returns from injury. From the Mets perspective, they should do what they can to move Castillo. I'm not sure whether or not KC offered Guillen, but it's a trade worth doing. Signing Hudson at the top of the line-up would be a nice addition. Signing Manny Ramirez would be lovely, but it's not realistic if he wants a deal more than what the Dodgers previously offered. If the Mets were to offer him a third year, I wouldn't offer more than about 65-70 million.

I'll be honest, I credit the Phillies for their activity and aggression. But in my opinion, this signing makes little sense on their part. Raul's turning 36 in June and will be getting paid 10 million in 2011 when he's 39 years old. One or two years into the contract, he may look like another Jenkins. I'm happy though that they didn't sign Derek Lowe. I never actually believed they really would, but seeing them re-sign Ibanez is similar to that of Burrell.

Here's why it doesn't make sense. When Utley gets back, they've got too many left-hander hitters. Two, they had to give up a first round draft pick and a sandwich pick in next June's draft since Raul's type A. They'll receive no compensation for Burrell who they didn't offer arbitration. And if Moyer chooses to sign elsewhere if the Phillies don't concede to his 2 year/18 million interest, than they'll also receive no compensation for him. Why exactly did Amaro not offer Moyer arbitration anyway? He made 8.5 million through incentives last season and would have gotten exactly what the Phillies were looking to give him (1 year/10-12 million) if he were to accept.

I think Tex would be the best move at this point if Delgado could be moved. The length of the contract (8-10yrs.), nor the money (160+) should be a factor in his signing due to his age and flat out ability all around. In five years from now he will be essentially working for "peanuts" when the economy goes boom (ie. Beltran).

If Tex is not possible, throwing a ton of money at Manny for a couple of years would be the next best thing. Offer him 50-60 over 2 years with an incentive laden 3rd year option. As of right now, this man is a MONSTER offensively, and instantly makes this lineup ....well....THAT much better. What are we really going to lose if he fails to produce over the life of a measly 2 year deal....a little cashish? Even then, I'm sure they could insure that short term contract. It's worth a shot.

Either way Omar, now that your boy Ibanez is gone, make one more splash and..........GET IT DONE!

Ibanez had better clutch stats than Manny in almost every category last year - higher BA with runners on, RISP, RISP w/ 2 outs...he had more RBI than Manny in all those scenarios as well. Ibanez even had better splits vs. lefties than Ramirez. And he did all this playing his home games in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in the majors.

He also comes without the baggage and hustles all the time without complaint. At 3/30, even at 36, this was a steal for Philly...he costs what Manny will likely cost for a little more than a year...I think the Mets will regret this one.

WE CAN ELIMINATE ALL DISCUSSION ABOUT WHO IS GOING AFTER WHO IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE EAST, AND HOW DOES THAT AFFECT US ETC BY SIGNING THE ONE MAN THAT WILL TURN OUR LINEUP INTO A JUGGERNAUT….. MANNY RAMIREZ.
NATIONAL LEAGUE PITCHER’S WILL BE ON THEIR HEELS FROM THE 1ST INNING,HIS NUMBER’S AND CONSISTENCY ARE ABSOLUTELY SICK, HIS ABILITY TO HIT IN THE CLUTCH AND GET ON BASE ARE WITHOUT PEER AND HE IS NOT SLOWING DOWN.
DON’T BE FOOLED BY THE ” HE’LL BE 37 ” CROWD THIS MAN IS THE GREATEST RBI MAN OF THIS GENERATION AND AS I’VE STATED BEFORE HE IS REGARDED BY MANY AS THE GREATEST RIGHT HANDED HITTER IN BASEBALL HISTORY, HIS NUMBERS ACROSS THE BOARD ARE ABSOLUTELY ASTONISHING HANDS DOWN.
THE ENERGY HE’LL BRING TO OUR BALL CLUB WILL BE PHENOMENAL, THAT SAID, IT WON’T MAKE A DIFFERENCE ABOUT DYE GOING TO ATLANTA OR ANY OTHER SENARIO THAT MAY PLAY OUT BECAUSE WE WILL HAVE THE DOMINICAN MESSIAH AND A LINEUP FOR THE AGES.
