Live: Conference Call with K-Rod at 12 pm
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 13, 2008 11:40 am

There will be live conference call at 12 pm EDT with reporters today to introduce Francisco Rodriguez as the team’s new closer.

I will be live blogging key questions and answers as the call goes on.  However, audio from the call will air live on SNY at 12 pm.

Update, 12:06 PM:

Rodriguez is on the phone in Venezuela.

He is not concerned about the drop in velocity.  He feels comfortable with where it is at, and he’s working hard in the off-season to get it back where he was.  It’s not something he’s worrying about it right now.

Update, 12:10 PM:

He is ‘very happy with the acquisition of J.J. Putz.’  He looks forward to working together to get a good chemistry going, and creating a great 1–2 punch.  “We are not selfish guys,” he said, “We have one goal and that’s to get to the promise land…we have to stay healthy and work hard.”

Update, 12:12 PM:

He’s excited to pitch in New York City.

“The atmosphere is totally different, the fans are really passionate, and there is something really special and nice that New York has that players like,” he said.  “I’m the kind of the guy who likes the pressure, and those situations…I want to earn the fan’s respect and I hope they enjoy me out there.”

Update, 12:13PM:

“Everybody knows what happened to the Mets last year, and things happen,” he said.  But, ‘we can’t live in the past, we need to have the same goal, of winning the world series, be healthy and get there.’

Update, 12:15 PM:

He is not disappointed in not getting a five-year deal.

“I never asked for five years.  It never came out of my mouth, it didn’t come out of my agent,” he said.  “I’m happy with this contract, and happy to be in New York City.”

Update, 12:17 PM:

Again, regarding velocity, he said last year he was making changes to his mechanics, and putting a third pitch (a change up) in to his repertoire.  So, because the mechanics were different, making his change-up most effective, but when he wanted to ‘let it fly,’ ‘the velocity was there.’

However, he’s still working, and as ‘you’ll see next year, the velocity will be there,’ and the goal is to be able to throw all three pitches from the same arm angle and speed.

“The velocity will pick up,” he said.  “No doubt about it.”

Update, 12:20 PM:

‘I was open to any conversation with any ballclub,’ he said, but, ‘of course,’ he wanted to be in New York City, and ‘it was not a hard decision.’

Update, 12:22 PM:

He looks forward to the pressure and the scrutiny.

However, he said, ‘I can’t control what people say, all I can control is what I do on the field.’

Update, 12:24 PM:

People in Venezuela are excited that he and Johan Santana are pitching on the same team, ‘and it’s really nice.’

Update, 12:27 PM:

“Of course,”  he said, when asked whether he will continue his ‘antics’ and ‘animation on the mound.’

“I’m never gonna change the way that I do my job,”

For more, the energy from the fans are gonna make it that much more, and it doesn’t bother him if it bothers other teams.

Update, 12:29 PM:

“Of course we want to win the division,” he said, when asked about the rivalry with the Phillies.  “Of course we want to be the front runners, and of course we want to be the team to beat…That shouldn’t be a controversy, but we need to be confident… If asked who will win the National League, I’m gonna say, ‘the Mets.’”

The conference call is over.

  1. jlaz89 says:

Make sure to get some pics of him holding up the jersey!!

  2. RichardK says:

Question for K-Rod: Which do you prefer at Citi Field? The interior or exterior bullpen?

  3. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

    Matt:

Ask KROD if the 75 on the back of his uniform is the number of saves he expects to notch in 2009!

  4. metsfan42793 says:

Matt can you please put the old Metsblog comment section back, this new setup is horrible.

  5. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

    Matt:

We also need to know what his entry-music will be.

  6. baMetFan says:

could you ask him his thoughts about giving some save opportunities to JJ when then occur on back to back days. And what role he may see Wager playing if he’s avialable in September?

  7. mr.gee21 says:

KROD: Are you worried that without another top starting pitcher and a big bat, the team is really just a Ponzi scheme that will fold like a house of cards in September as fans lose everything they have invested in the team all year long?

  8. dominicanboy08 says:

ah, I thought the mets were going to introduce krod and putz in a press conference. I mean this is a big thing, to have these two guys in our bullpen,at least for us.

  9. LetsGoMets123 says:

Matt: Ask him why #75. I bet because it’s opposite on Johans #57

  10. wrightfan24 says:

Matt ask Omar about the Schoenweis deal. Ask if it is a deal to set up another deal-like a trade or money for a signing?

  11. Metskin says:

Ask him if this was where he wanted to come all along.

  12. a.iliakostas says:

    Hey Matt,

    I have a question for K-Rod:

You have been on an All-Star team with JJ Putz only once in 2007, and you have also faced him several times when you were with the Angels. Have you ever gotten to know JJ Putz as a player and as a person during that time?

    Thanks Matt!

    Anthony

  13. Johan Santana 57 says:

Hey Matt, it’s Johan here, I called Francisco last night if he wanted to go see a movie with me tomorrow night. He never called me back or maybe I got the wrong number. Can you ask him if he still wants to go see it with me?

    Thanks Matt

    - Johan

  14. stillbelieve says:

ask him what he likes on his pizza

  15. Johan Santana 57 says:

You mean what he likes on his Piazza

    hehe.

Sorry, not pitching in the off season makes me bored so I make stupid jokes!

  16. steiny says:

    Hi Matt,
If you can, ask K-Rod what he thinks about the addition of J.J. Putz, and how excited he is to play in New York, that would be great.
    Thanks

  17. stillbelieve says:

ask him if hes gonna act like the second coming of jesus after each and every save

  18. citifieldrocks says:

hey wheres the confrence im watching sny

  19. mr.gee21 says:

    KROD:

If you had to live on an island for the rest of you life with just one other baseball player’s wife/girlfriend, which would she be?

  20. mr.gee21 says:

    KROD:

Are the Mets the team to beat?

  21. 4545ajd says:

Ask if the addition of Putz will make him work harder knowing that of he fails the Mets have another star closer to step into his role.

  22. RichardK says:

still 1st and Goal here on SNY, maybe 12:30 or they break in when it starts?

  23. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

WHERE IS THIS REPORT? ITs not on SNY TV!

    WHERE IS THE AUDIO?

  24. Beisbl2004 says:

yeah wats goin on with this…is it really gonna be on SNY soon

  25. JoseReyesForPresident says:

    they giving the jets.

  26. JoseReyesForPresident says:

    ok never mind

  27. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

    its on!

  28. Beisbl2004 says:

    yeahhhh here it is

  29. “ask him if hes gonna act like the second coming of jesus after each and every save” ROFL…

Are they gonna hold a confrence for Putz? I really don’t care much for K-Rod.

  30. BSMITTYFDNY says:

Matt could you please ask Frankie how he feels knowing his set-up guy the Mets just traded for is actually a better closer then he is.
    Thanks buddy.

  31. JoseReyesForPresident says:

did he say juan bobo lmao it sounded like it

  32. jaydh says:

so if putz is better, will he not mind setting him up?

  33. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

By the way, I am not sure I am the first, but i am going to predict, if Johan, Putz and KROD stay healthy all year, JOHAN will win 27 and take home the Cy Young!

  34. kowalski69 says:

i cant make out one word he’s saying

  35. JoseReyesForPresident says:

i can, probably cuz am usto it.

  36. JoseReyesForPresident says:

woooo hes going to get hype!!

  37. JoseReyesForPresident says:

lmao @ the dog in the background

  38. JoseReyesForPresident says:

oh oh the media going to make a statement of that comment ‘ofcoures the mets going to win it”

  39. eduardosmets says:

    K ROD IS THE MANNNNNNNNNNNN

  40. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

sign a legit starter, sign manny, maybe pick up another FA reliever and the division is ours.

  41. ksuth says:

    is that #75 confirmed?

  42. Deaner says:

k-rod is sounding like exactly what the mets need.

torii hunter said santana was a bulldog==correct

    he also said k-rod is a bulldog–correct

  43. squad says:

I’m loving this guy already. We need to embrace this team’s energy and character.

  44. dieselpi says:

“im never gonna change the way i do my job”

someone please relay this to jose reyes

  45. mr.gee21 says:

Bring in some more gangstas please. This team needs attitude.

    2009: No fear.

  46. longislandmetsfan says:

I have to be honest, as petty as it may seem, I am really curious what song he’s going to come into the game with…And is Puts gonna have a song? Setup guys dont generally have their own songs, do they?

  47. The_Fonz says:

i dont see why putz cant have a song. Didn’t feliciano have the jackson 5?

btw, if ollie doesnt come back, i’ll miss HIS song

  48. DHarrisDBS34 says:

I feel more comfortable after reading what he had to say. Some of the talk of his decreasing velocity may leave questions, but at least he doesn’t shy away from it and seems to have a god answer to it, as well as a solution. It’s still wait and see, but I’ll take his word for it.

  49. longislandmetsfan says:

Yeah, Putz is like a heavy metal type of guy, right? What the hell was ollie’s song?

  50. The_Fonz says:

Ollie’s song: Why waste your time….pretty much this techno/hip hop song from the 90s goes like this:

    (Four times):
    Why waste your time?
You know you’re gonna be mine.
You know you’re gonna be mine.
You know you’re gonna be mine

    (Two times):
    I’m gonna get you, baby.
I’m gonna get you, yes I am.
    I’m gonna get you, baby.
I’m gonna get you, yes I am.

  51. 2009_believe says:

the 75 is confirmed you can even buy a jersey with his name and number

  52. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

Could the Mets go with a four-man rotation?

Johan, Pelfrey, Maine and four man

Putting aside whether Pelfrey will have a sophmore slump or is for real and whether Maine will be more like 2007, than 2008 and having faith that our four man will be serviceable…..

What if (at least at the end of the season) Duaner is finally healthy and returns to his 2006 form, Wagner get healthy in time for the last month and the playoffs and Putz and KROD stay healthy.

If that is the case, then we only need our starters to go 5 innings. Hek, Pedro could be good in that situation.

If our starters only need to go 5, then perhaps they will be able to handle a 4 man rotation rather than a 5.

And think about how our 6-7-8-9 could set up….

    6- Duaner in 2006 form
    7- Wagner healthy
    8-Putz healthy
    9-KROD healthy

It could like the end of an ALLSTAR game!

Johan could end up with 40+ starts!

Okay, I realize a four man rotation is probably still not possible, but that ALL-STAR bullpen (if healthy) could be a reality at the end of the season!

  53. thatdude says:

    KickedintheMetsiclesAgain:

We should use reality as our guide. Wagner’s won’t even begin throwing off of flat surfaces until, at the earliest, September . . . and even then that would be pretty remarkable.

Also, conceptually, your 5 innings and come back on three days works, but this isn’t little league . . . and think about the stress you would place on the bullpen.

  54. The Slider says:

    HEY MATT!!!

    THE WINTER MEETINGS ARE OVER.

CAN WE PLEEEEEESSSSEEE GO BACK TO THE OLD FORMAT?

  55. longislandmetsfan says:

oh yeah, and meant to say that a 4 man rotation would not work…You would then start asking way too much from the middle relief guys, and asking for major trouble again…Putz/KRod wouldn’t be coming in with leads….Not a good idea..I mean as of right now, who are our long guys? Stokes, Figueroa? Once in a while we can live with that, but definitely not as the norm…

  56. mextache says:

    Metsicles,

With all due respect to Billy Wagner…he was an after-thought for 2009 even before the acquisitions of K-Rod and Putz.

Now, he’s just another guy collecting paychecks twice a month from the Mets.

  57. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

Guys, thanks. I was not really serious about a 4-man rotation, I guess I was not express enough in the last sentence of my post that I was kidding about the 4-man rotation…..

As for whether Wags could come back… sure its a long shot, but it could happen it could be awesome.

Even if Wags is taken out of the equation, having a Duaner in the 7th, with 2006 form is still pretty gaudy to roll out day after day.

  58. MetsFan4Decades says:

You go, K-Rod. 2009, here we come.

  59. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

By the way, why is Francisco Rodriquez “KROD” and not “FROD”?

I guess in New York, when he is good he will be KROD, and when he is bad, he will be “F’n Rod”

JJ Putz will have the same name whether good or bad. When good: “What a Putz!” and when bad: “What a Putz!”.

I guess the same could be said about Eddie Kunz.

The headline in the papers will be interesting for sure….

  60. MetsFan4Decades says:

And I’m with Slider. I hate, this new format. That’s one of the things that made this blog so great – the ability to respond to a specific comment.
    We’re begging, Matt……

  61. longislandmetsfan says:

i totally agree on the sanchez part…I’m a big fan of him, and his performance last season (or lack thereof) is not what he should be judged on…If he can return to near ‘06 form, and be the 7th inning guy (when needed) or 8th inning guy if we have a good lead, then forget about it..Picture big pelf going a solid 6 innings, leaving with a 2 or 3 run lead, Duaner strong in the 7th, to Putz, to K-Rod??!! My word!!!

  62. longislandmetsfan says:

I would guess K for strikeout? Not sure though, now that you mention it…

  63. BIG17EASY says:

So you want each of those relievers to pitch one inning in every game. How many relievers throw over 80 innings, let alone 162?

    Ridiculous.

  64. LetsGoMets123 says:

OFF TOPIC: I don’t understand Ty Wigginton has been non tendered. What is Omar waiting fo?r This is the bench player the Mets need. He can play third, second, first and left field. He loved his time with the Mets, and we loved him. C;mon Omar what are you waiting for. This is a no brainer

  65. SantanaClause says:

yes K like strike out K

  66. egnirc says:

So it looks like Majestic has made Rodriguez player shirts and player shirts that have K-ROD on the back instead of the last name.

  67. LetsGoMets123 says:

    OMAR SIGN TY WIGGINGTON!!!!

  68. CitizenSnips says:

I agree with many others. Time to sign Wig-nasty.

  69. longislandmetsfan says:

does anyone have an idea where are with the payroll for 09? Curious with whatever we’ve cut, and since added, how much we still have to play with, given that we are going to be around last season’s number..

  70. Willie Randolph says:

    CHANGE THIS FORMAT PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MATT C’MON MAN CHANGE IT !!!!!!!!!

  71. 300Million says:

i like well k-rod said we need that on our team.

  72. FSMetFan says:

wiggy isnt gettig a 1 yr 2 mil dollar deal…im sure hes looking for something like 2 years 10 mil to start somewhere and thats not worth it for a backup

  73. TheresAlwaysNextYear says:

    Wright #5
    Reyes #7
    Johan #57
    K-Rod #75

    Fate?

  74. longislandmetsfan says:

back to schoenweiss for a minute, I would have traded him and Heilmann for some sod to plant in the new stadium…they were the 2 main guys that HAD to go, no matter what we got back in return.

  75. Hazmet says:

    Matt:

When the format changes back, will CitiField adorn the header or will Shea stay in memorium?

    Just curious…

  76. eduardosmets says:

how would you guys feel if omar signed Pat burrell he did have 100 walks to his 138 strike outs so not bad and isn’t a type a so you dont lose draft picks

  77. longislandmetsfan says:

and hes looking for at least 10mm dollars

  78. cleonsvan says:

Wiggy fills the role that Easley had the last two years perfectly. He’s homegrown – come on Omar – time to get Wiggy wit it.

  79. Hazmet says:

The old Pat Burrell, yes. The Pat Burrell that’s old now, no. He’s been really bad in the field and on the base paths the past few years. To the point they pulled him for defense late in the game. He’s gotten old fast and I’d rather see the $$’s Omar’s got left go elsewhere then to an outfielder who will need to be pulled for late defense. I’ve seen enough of that the past few years.

  80. eduardosmets says:

yeah but pat told people he would consider the mets i bet you he would take less than 10 maybe 8 mill a season give him a 2 year contract i mean the guy cant play defense much but jeremy reed the guy we got from seattle is a defensive player so he can always come in late in games atleast Pat will be a cheap power bat in our order thats a righty and left field is his natural position plus i would love to know all the inside info on the phillies

  81. eduardosmets says:

the only problem with getting good left fielders is that there all lefty hitters and thats a problem i want our lineup to be balanced the only guy out there thats not alefty hitter is milton bradley which i wouldnt mind hes a switch hitter and hits for power but most ppl on this site seem not to like him i hope omar thinks different i would really milton but burrell atleast walked 100 times and thats good hits well againts lefties which is the whole point we want a righty and hits homeruns so it wouldnt be so bad especially for only 2 years unless we signed a legit lefty hitting left fielder than traded church for a right handed right fielder

  82. longislandmetsfan says:

he only hits for power when he’s hot…his slumps are way too frequent, and thats the last thing we need is a guy that goes cold for extended periods of time…no thanks on burrell

  83. vic79 says:

I think Wigginton really liked playing in NY too………that was tough when they dealt him but it had to happen to ge ta Benson back………….

He would be fantastic in a utility role …mainly LF platoon with Murphy but he can also play RF to sit Church, 3B,1B and if they have to 2B
I think Cora would be great for SS and 2B alot with Castillo likely still around

That would give alot of platoon options

    LF Murphy/Wigginton
    RFChurch/Tatis
    2B Cora/Castillo
    C Castro/Schneider
    OF Reed for Defensive purposes

  84. longislandmetsfan says:

everything you say brings us back to manny, who, although unrealistic, IS the perfect match…that’s why I was asking if anyone knew where the payroll was currently at…The only teams so far to show serious interest in him has been the dodgers, so if we did have the money, anything is possible…but it will also be determined by what we spend on pitching, because they are going to solidify that 1st.

  85. eduardosmets says:

TY is a good fit for the mets lets just hope omar is open to these options
theres a couple good guys that got non tendered last night

tim redding pitched 200 innings last year

joe nelson had 60 strikouts out the pen with only 22 walks

aaron miles is a good becnh player he is a switch hitter and played on larussa ball club so you know he’s a winner

daniel cabrera is worth a minor league contract maybe turns things around with a new ballclub

  86. Hazmet says:

    Follow up on Burrell

I suppose we could do worse but I’m stilling holding out hope that somehow/way they change their tune on Manny for a 2 year stint. Which is in conflict with what I just said regarding late inning defensive replacements. So I think I may need to be more open minded on Burrell. I’ve just heard so much about his legs being shot that his best place may be as a DH in the AL.
Whatever they do it best be from the right side of the dish.

  87. longislandmetsfan says:

I’ve been busting peoples chops to stop talking about manny because it is a pipe dream at best, but GOD its a good fit in SO many ways…

  88. Hazmet says:

Ditto on Manny. It so obviously take’s care of so many things it hurts.

My wish list still is Manny, Lowe and Biemel for a bullpen lefty. To bad it ain’t happen.

  89. longislandmetsfan says:

I do know that burrell is not the answer though…as someone pointed out, he’s heading towards the “play in the al as a dh” point of his career.

  90. eduardosmets says:

Matt should try to convice the mets to have a Mets Blog Day at citifield once a year lol where we have our own section

  91. Hazmet says:

    Eduardo

Great idea! They can run the thread on the Jumbotron. That’d be pretty cool.

  92. longislandmetsfan says:

it really does…it adds a monster bat, not just a good one, it adds someone who thrives under pressure like no one else, it adds attitude, and it makes everyone else in the lineup so much better that its really scary…Could you imagine how dangerous David Wright would be without the weight of the world on his shoulders? Jerry Manuel would be the perfect guy to deal with manny, etc, etc….the good points keep goin on and on…

  93. enterkrod says:

    omar loves manny…the wilpons dont

  94. eduardosmets says:

i bet the mets would like the idea because it would attract more fans by blog readers reading of having a blog day at citifield more ppl that sit at home and watch the games on tv would want to come to the field to be with there fellow bloggers

  95. Hazmet says:

    I wonder what Omar’s doing now……hmmm…..as he continue’s stiching together Frakenmet….

  96. Hazmet says:

    EnterKRod:

You nailed it on the head.

My hope is that since the Wilpon’s loved guy’s like Madoff maybe they’ll revisit a blindspot they have in evaluating character vs. results. After all, Art Howe did light up the room.

Character does matter but alot of these guys aren’t choirboys (re: Castro….). Stuff like this makes me want to take them and shake them and say “haven’t we as fans seen enough, go get who you need to and put the past 2 years behind us”.

  97. eduardosmets says:

how long you guys think till the next big move minaya makes are we going to guessing everday till janurary? lol that will be torture
i cant wait till the season starts im getting my krod and putz jerseys and tickets early

  98. enterkrod says:

hazmet i could not agree more…if anything they sit down with him and say listen well give you whatever you want…just stay out of trouble…he may have been a pain in boston…but just like heilman and the rest of the bullpen they were a pain to us..so it was time for manny to leave boston…he comes to the dodgers and everyone in their says how great he is and a good teammate…not to mention his bat…it would be the dumbest move by omar to not look into manny..and omar so far has not made any dumb moves

  99. nsr says:

Putz come in to acdc’s thunderstruck(great song)

and krod comes into daddy yankees’s gasolina.

    thunder and lightning

  100. longislandmetsfan says:

He LOVED the nl, so he definitely prefers it over the al…And really, forget the yankees for minute, bc I think they will go after Tex a bit more seriously than Manny (I really dont think they’re gonna go after him) what other teams has anyone heard, besides the dodgers? I think I briefly heard the angels, but thats it from what I can recall…We might be able to get him on a 2yr deal…

  101. longislandmetsfan says:

good stuff nsr..thanks for that info…

  102. eduardosmets says:

i was reading the burnett article on espn.com read the best comment from a yankee fan lol

“As a Yankee, Im afraid of what we might do if we dont make the playoffs again next year. We just might pay the whole league to forfeit all their games “

  103. Hazmet says:

I’m thinking he’ll make some small put important moves that will drive me insane and have me thinking that he’s not going to do anything else large. This may end up being reality since he does have a budget he needs to hold to but I’m hoping not.

That being said, I’m thinking most of the big FA’s left are going to want to know where their going to land before January so they can get their own personal arrangements lined up for spring training digs and family concerns which will quickly approach once the calendar turns.

  104. 300Million says:

lol i knew the media was going to blow what k-rod said “we are going to be the team to beat”.

  105. enterkrod says:

i would not be surprised to see a headline on here or in a newspaper saying mets interested in manny…or mets looking into manny…i really believe if there is a rumor going around before the season begins about how omar is going after manny…i believe we will end up getting him

  106. longislandmetsfan says:

yeah, I hate talking about the yankees, and burnett is a disaster waiting to happen for them, but god almighty, does everyone realize that they outbid THEMSELVES on CC??? Thats just ridiculous….The next teams bid wasnt even close to their original, but he still wasnt biting, so they outbid themselves!!! I think thats funny stuff.

  107. eduardosmets says:

the yankees line up is weak and pathetic and hanky panky said he likes manny i really see them overpaying for him if he’s still out there for a while

  108. djbutler says:

To eduardosmets: “Yankees Ensure 2003 Pennant By Signing Every Player In Baseball” was a February 2003 article in The Onion. Enter the title into Google to find the article.

  109. enterkrod says:

well yankees are stupid…we already know they overpaid on sabathia…they are stuoid for signing burnett who always gets hurt…and another thing…yeah their pitching was weak last year…but they still have a third basemen who cannot hit in the clutch..they still have an old team..they did improve their pitching to a degree…obviously..but i still dont see them beating the red sox…especially if they sign tex..tampa bay…they are still gonna be nasty,,i just dont see them contending again…but then again…they will find
    something

  110. Hazmet says:

My favorit new nickname for CC I saw on another blog site “CC Blubathia”. It will be interesting if he’s George’s next Fat Toad. I think he’s got too much talent for that but man he’s large.

  111. enterkrod says:

one thing for sure is sabathia sure as hell isnt worth more that johan is..we can all agree on that one

  112. eduardosmets says:

the best name i head for C.C was
    “CASH COW”

  113. Gina says:

I think CC will be worth his contract, bu i think the Burnett one was terrible. For one I’m not sure he’s worth it, for two, I’m not sure that after throwing so many innings last year he’ll make it through 10 starts this year.

  114. enterkrod says:

gina no i mean he is good..he is worth a lot to invest in…but not 161million…not more than johan..

  115. eduardosmets says:

c.c is an awesome pitcher but 7 years for more than santana ? i wouldn’t of gave him even 5 years util janurary where he can come and show me he dropd 20 pounds and show me hes of hdedicted to taking care is weight because 7 years for a big man is a large contract every year the salary goes up and so will his weight

  116. enterkrod says:

and burnett is definately not worth it…i dont see him as a threat..he is very hittable

  117. rustyjr says:

eduardo – the only reason why he got the 7th year and the extra 23 mil was cuz the yanks were desperate

  118. rustyjr says:

any word about us goin after lowe?

  119. rustyjr says:

i went by b.c sports – no rodrigez jerseys yet

  120. eduardosmets says:

i know i heard tim kurkjian sorry if i spelled it wrong he said the yankees were starting to not attract big players any more that players were being scared to play for them so they had to go big on C.C to redeem themselves and show that its good to play for the yankees its still a shame to outbid yourself no excuses

  121. enterkrod says:

no word on lowe yet…honestly i would talk to boras about perez before lowe..and i keep looking and waiting for k-rod jerseys to come out too…hopefully before christmas so i can get it as a gift..

  122. longislandmetsfan says:

K-Rod jerseys are gonna sell like hotcakes, could you imagine how Manny jerseys would sell??!!

  123. Gina says:

eduardomets, once you break down the contracts the money per is only like 1-2 million more for Sabathia, and considering it’s a year later and prices usually go up it’s a pretty negligible difference.

really even though I think the Yankees are way overpaying I do think their front office has a decent plan. Keep spending on the draft and developing young players while bringing in big name free agents rather than trading those young players away. It’s really not that different from what the Red Sox are doing, the Red Sox are just 100x smarter and more efficient about it.

  124. rustyjr says:

agree with u 100% gina unfortunaely weve thrown good money after bad i.e johan after slappy

  125. enterkrod says:

i love how already reporters are making a big deal on k-rod saying mets are going to be the team to beat…all he said was if someone asks me who is going to win the nl east..im going to say the mets…well obviously..what do people expect him to say the phillies?

  126. rustyjr says:

btw gina where do u stand on wiggy?

  127. enterkrod says:

if things dont get anywhere with manny..what about johnny gomes from tampa?..

  128. eduardosmets says:

how many of you got your tickets settled already for citifield ? i still gotta get tickets im going to try a ticket plan pack season tickets is to much unless i split it with some people

  129. eduardosmets says:

gomes and byrnes are the same player i rather just trade castillo for byrnes if you said i had to get gomes and just get rid of castillo

  130. rustyjr says:

got mine eduardo sat plan sect 436 of the promenade box row 2

  131. rustyjr says:

    d’backs don’t want slappy

  132. Gina says:

Do you mean Ty Wigginton? Depending on what he’d cost I’d love to add him. A utlity player who’s actually

    1. decent at the utility positions he’d be ask to play
    2. has a legit bat, can walk and hit for some decent power.

Depending on what it would cost to trade for him I’d drive him to flushing myself.

  133. Gina says:

The problem with gomes is we already have like 30 4th outfielders.

  134. enterkrod says:

thats true..well looks like we are back to manny..haha

  135. eduardosmets says:

im going to name the only guys that are allowed on this team

MANNY ,DUNN , ABREU , BURRELL, TY, THAMES, BRADLEY, RIVERA

    thats about it lol

  136. rustyjr says:

i admit although i loved him 5 years ago – i cant see him back here in that capacity – he never had much of a glove

  137. rustyjr says:

    no thanx on abreboo

  138. eduardosmets says:

ayo rustyjr. how much them tickets run you?

  139. longislandmetsfan says:

The more suggestions we come up with, the more it makes us all realize just how perfect manny would be…

  140. Gina says:

oh wow wigginton was non tendered? I didn’t realize. Yeah definitely want him.

  141. enterkrod says:

oh yeah absolutely…i think it would be stupid for the mets not to get manny..but we can say it all day

  142. rustyjr says:

i had a 750 dollar credit from the playoffs so it ran me a extra 300

  143. rustyjr says:

manny might be perfect but the wilpons don’t want him so its moot

  144. eduardosmets says:

not a bad deal i need to start picking out a plan for myself also its hard times these days though with the economy mest up but i have to watch my mets its a sacarfice i will take lol

  145. enterkrod says:

yeah exactly…which again…is ridiculous..you have a free agent who can hit the ball with two hands tied together..and they dont want him..

  146. eduardosmets says:

you guys keep saying that jerry can handle Manny but if were not getting manny than why cant you guys see jerry being able to handle milton bradley atleast he’ll come cheap and is a switch hitter with power even if he gets hurt once a season he wont even get hurt with tatis and murph sparing him games to stay healthy

  147. rustyjr says:

bradley is more violent imo not to say manny is ghandi

  148. 2009_believe says:

replying to the poster who said there are shirts that say “K-Rod” where does one purchase those?

  149. rustyjr says:

    probably mlb.com

  150. 2009_believe says:

thanks rusty, i did just head over to mlb.com and find that shirt although they just have one style up right now so i guess i’ll have to be patient

  151. Gina says:

Bradley is going to cost too much to not be an every day player and it’s hard ot imagine him staying healthy for most of the season. I wouldn’t be opposed to him but I think it would make sense to go after Dunn and possibly Burrel first.

  152. rustyjr says:

yeah btw i posted this b4 – comeon matt lets get back to the old posting boards – the winter meetings are over!!!

  153. rustyjr says:

bradley might snap after the stache criticises him lol keith might have to put the just for men smackdown on him

  154. rustyjr says:

*critisizes – damn i need spell check lol

  155. rustyjr says:

guys just got this from mlbtr
Omar Minaya thinks Koji Uehara projects as a starter, and future negotiations will be based on that projection.
The Mets are the frontrunners for signing Ken Takahashi.

  156. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

    ******* REYES NO LONGER A MET! *****************

By the way, anyone notice that Mets did not offer a contract to Argenis Reyes. As a result, Reyes is no longer a Met.
    He is a free-agent.

  157. longislandmetsfan says:

not sure who those 2 japanes guys are

  158. ChadBradfordSociety says:

they also got rid of burgos. who’s gonna want that punk?

  159. rustyjr says:

vajos con dios a-rey now go back to being e.t’s double

  160. rustyjr says:

    - next to resigning slapp burgos was omars biggest folly imho

  161. beltran the warrior says:

apparently according to jerry crasnick from espn, the mets are now the frontrunners for derek lowe now that the yankees are presumably out since they signed derek lowe. i call bs.

  162. gipper82475 says:

    Rustyjr (129)

I hope you have powerful binoculars. Yikes!

  163. Gina says:

hopefully we stay front runners for him.

  164. CitizenSnips says:

Christ the Phillies fans are all over Krod’s “comment” or should I say the media-prompted and editted comment that isn’t really what he said.

  165. Jkon617 says:

It’s simple. Until the Mets win the division, they should not declare anything. Talk is cheap, not your contracts. Therefore, close the mouths and channel your words into actions. Mets fans have heard this statement the past 2 years.

When Jimmy Rollins said the Phillies were the team to beat in 2007, they actually did it. Beltran claimed it in 2008, and the Mets didn’t do it. Stop talking and play. Mets fans do not care if you declare yourselves the team to beat. They want you to win. As much as I hate Rollins, I can’t say anything back because they won and we didn’t.

As much as I hate to say it, Cole Hamels is right that the Mets are choke artists. But until we prove otherwise, stop talking!!!!

  166. CitizenSnips says:

Nice, but here comes the part where you actually read. See a reported asked Krod a question, so any “Mets need to close their mouths” is automatically invalid, since he was answering the question. If he tried to avoid it he would’ve been crucified and instead he basically said that the Mets ‘want’ to be in the position to say they’re the team to beat, hence improving the team. In no way shape or form did Krod make a bold claim, he simply answered it by saying that the Mets want to improve so that they can say that they’re the best. But most people seem to have their idiot filters on and forget to actually read what was said.

  167. youthmovement says:

On comments 127 and 137, did anyone notice that eduardosmets used punctuation?

Just messin’ with ya I can keep up with your comments even though they are rolled up into long paragraph I mean sentence where you never know where one thought stops and another one starts but you are a true diehard met fan who only wants what is best for the team so I like your attitude and enthusiasm OK keep it up

  168. PhuckDaMuts says:

I’m not bothered by anything Krod says since I can never understand a word any Mets players say. Your team should have a fulltime translator for those of us who speak English.

  169. ChadBradfordSociety says:

I actually think what K-Rod said was great. If you ask me, the one thing the Mets didn’t have last year (besides a bullpen), was life. I think K-rod’s gonna give this team energy, and that’s what the Mets need. I mean David Wright is a great player, but he is so CALM. And Jose Reyes is electric on the field, but he never says anything (partly because you cant understand what he says). Well, last year Carlos Beltran said that the Mets would be the team to beat, and I thought he was right. He was wrong, but at least somebody’s trying to instill life into this team.

  170. CaliFan05 says:

Today I finally understand why Omar traded for Putz. He now has a terrific pitcher that is going to bring it and be hungry for the closer spot if K-rods slips (velocity or if he blows his arm out, he pitches with alot of stress aginast his arm)
