i wouldn't say they collapsed in 06 but i get your point...i'm becoming more and more interested in giving abreu a 3 yr deal...i mean the guy can hit 290/20/100 with 20 sbs and hed be a great 2-hitter for this team...i think they can add a lefty instead of a righty as long as theyre putting him in the 2-hole...reyes, abreu, wright, delgado, beltran, church, castillo, schneider, pitcher...not bad and youll never have a lefty back to back against lefty starters

I just can't even begin to fathom a team that collapsed 3 years in a row not making any offensive change other than adding a stiff like Alex Cora. Unacceptable. This cannot happen.

this is what the mets need to do

understand that the mets want murphy to get playing time in the outfield so him and tatis have to platoon and im to the point where i believe that is whats going to happen. Dont expect any major signings for the outfield.
I do believe tho that they might go after either TY wiggington or Marcus Thames , for TY's reasons are because he plays many positions and would be able to fill in when starters need to rest and is a right hand hitter and can play the outfield so hes there one option. The second is marcus thames because hes a righthand hitting outfielder that has power and come off the bench in crucial pinch hit moments with power and can spell for ryan church incase he cant hit off lefties this season which has to be taken as a big concern cant go into the season taking chances.

After that the mets still have to try to move castillo for more bullpen help or for prospect to add to the farm and pay as much of the contract as possible. If they can remove castillo orlando hudson and i know alot of people dont like him much and i can understand that on some points but he is younger than castillo he plays great defense which is what we want for our pitchers best defense posiible he also is a switch hitter and hits with more pop than castillo and is the perfect number 2 hitter but this only if castillo can be traded.

If he cant be traded than the most likly will be either signings of alex cora or jerry hairston jr. for back.

Now as for the rotation which is the hardest to project becuase of the large contracts these free agnets are looking for i predit this.

Mets are going to go into the season with either oliver perez or derek lowe i am convinced there talking to scott boras on both his clients and 1 of them will be a met.
second i see either signings like daniel cabrera and 1 year deal with pedro martinez going down to compete with niese in spring.
if they go the expensive rout for a #5 than they will either trade for marquis , sign garland, or sign randy wolf

after all this the mets will need to replace marlon anderson in the bench because he clearly is a good teammate but just isnt the bench player were looking for this season
bench players are in a season and i beleive the mets should take the bench role just as serious as the lineup depth and pitching wins championships and were going in the right direction lets just hope minaya doesnt hit and speed bumps

So now after all this I truly believe with a stronger bull pen now and hopefully a healthy staff the mets have the mentality and unit to win back the east and veteran status to go far in the playoffs and win a world series but these are just asomtions but hopefully things go the way i see and i believe we will be fine.

Then again you can always sign MANNY RAMIREZ and all problems are solved off 1 signings but those are just dreams lol :)

I don't think they were realistically consider Livan was the sole pitcher to their answers. They also considered signing Kyle Lohse to the same deal the Cardinals gave him at the end of this season. Lohse turned out to do pretty decent. Livan on a minor league deal or one year/600K deal though is just another guy to compete. There's not much risk involved. If he does well, go for him. If he doesn't, just release him.

NYJ0126

For the love of God, never mention Livan Hernandez and the Mets in the same sentence ever again. It was reported that we were going to settle on Livan last year the weekend before we got Johan and I almost slit both my wrists. It is just too risky to even think about that guy.

Can you imagine if we had Livan all of 2008 instead of Johan? Wow........

2:34pm: A reader who heard the show says Patrick was only speaking in the hypothetical with the $200MM figure, so Bloom's post was apparently inaccurate. This is why I typically avoid radio reports unless I hear them myself...sorry about that. In listening to the Reggie Miller interview on Patrick's site he was definitely only giving an opinion during that portion.

Molina would not be that hard to get. I want to trade Schnieder either way. Are you kidding about replacing his production? Is it that much better than what the Phillies got out of their catcher spot? The Phillies had 3 catchers that combined to make 1.5 million. The Mets had 2 that combined to make 8.5 million. That's a lot of lost money.
