The Mets will
introduce Francisco Rodriguez during
Jerry Manuel and John Maine will be in attendance, as will Mike Pelfrey, who will play the role of Santa Clause.
Meanwhile, J.J. Putz will be introduced in a press conference in Citi Field on Thursday.
…i will not be going to the holiday party, and am undecided on the putz press conference…if i go, i will be sure to live blog and upload video and photos as quick as i can…
Speaking of Putz, read Anthony McCarron’s report for the Daily News, during which he talks about the pitcher with M’s pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, who says, ‘Putz will handle the attention very well. That’s one of his strong points. He’s probably looking forward to it. If he adjusts well to that setup role, we’re talking about a club that no one will want to face late in the game.”

What do you mean Mike Pelfrey will play the role of Santa Claus! You mean there isn’t a Santa?!!!!
sorry to break it to ya 50 but yea no santa…
Matt, Why wouldn’t you go to the holiday party or the JJ introduction?
You know you hit the big time when you have the opportunity to go see Putz introduced at as the team’s setup man and you are “undecided” about whether or not you will be in attendance. =P
But still, you couldn’t score tickets to the Christmas party? What’s the deal with that? Time to get on the phone with your agent.
Not sure why you wouldn’t go to the party…
Send me your invite!
I think Blastro would be a better Santa – Pelfrey’s too thin!
The pictures from the METS holiday party for kids are always so freaking adorable….I guess David can’t be Santa anymore after he was mauled by mothers of children the last time! LOL
I’m pretty excited for J.J….I’ve had Thunderstruck stuck in my head since he came over, and the first time it plays over the Citi PA is going to be something.
That being said, they REALLY have to get KRod a better song! Thunderstruck is a great one, and will get the crowd going…KRod’s entrance needs to at least be equal! Any suggestions for him?
Guys I don’t think we have thought about how smooth of a move this was for Omar.
We all are thinking that Putz is here one year and then we pick up the option and maybe trade him. What we are forgetting is that Krod is on a very attractive short contract after this season as well.
Omar will be able to chose who ever he wants after 2010. He could choose to resign Putz and trade Krod with a 1 year 12 million dollar contract left.
“santa clause”?
C’mon, guys. A proofreader can’t be THAT expensive.
Proof reader will be attending xmas party.
Matt when are you reverting back to the old posting format. This one is a big step backward.
It looks like the Angels are now in on Manny. Our chances of signing him dwindle away by the hour.
TRS, very correct! I was hoping Putz would be our closer if we did not sign KRod, and we got both! Truly incredible move by Omar, especially as some story yesterday said that the M’s GM asked Omar if he could get him Heilman and the guy from the Indians, and Omar made it happen.
And maybe Pelf is Santa because he has a stripper girlfriend who can re-create the wonderful family atmosphere Anna Benson brought to the holiday party at Shea a few years ago with her Mrs. Claus outfit…..
I actually like this format better, it makes the different posts easier to read. Sure the option to reply to people would be nice, but the old format looks messy and unprofessional….
I told you they would have player introductions this week… Come on, you KNOW that the Yankees are going to ‘roll out the carving board’ for Sabathia and Burnett as they are praised as the next coming…
Geoff…Santa Clause is an acceptable spelling. Come on! I’m Jewish and I know that. :p
Pray that Texieria signs with the Angels.
Prismo,
Accepted only if you accept misspellings….or bad Tim Allen movies in which the word “Clause” refers to a promise by Mr. Allen’s character to be old St. Nick…as in a contract’s clause. Santa Claus is the correct spelling of the jolly fat guy who likes kids.
Matt, any truth to the rumor that Anna Benson will be at the holiday party to try to convince Omar to sign her husband?
Now who would have thought we’d have someone say this about the Mets after last year:
“we’re talking about a club that no one will want to face late in the game.”
The season can’t come soon enough.
Anybody else find it odd that they never had an introductory press conference for K-Rod with him in attendance? Just Omar at the podium in Vegas and then a weak-as$ed teleconference with a nearly inaudible K-Rod from Venezuela.
i Hate to say it but i love jj puts intro click on my name
From a baseball strategy standpoint, I’m very pleased that Putz is going to be our 8th inning/high leverage situation guy. As that is the best time to use your best closer.
But as a fan of drama and entertainment, I can’t help but feel like it’s going to be a bit of a let down when Putz comes out to THUN-DERR in the 8th with the entire stadium just flat out rocking, and then we have to settle for whatever crap song Krod comes out to in the 9th.
There is no song that anyone could possibly walk out to that would be better than Thunderstruck.
We need to get a petition together by the fans and send it to The Mets with a song request for Krod.
gipper, K-Rod went to NYC with Jeff Wilpon and to take the physical. Omar had to stay in Vegas to work on more deals.
I think everyone is excited about these bullpen acquisitions and rightfully so. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves now. The key to this offense is Carlos Delgado and I think it would be extremely dangerous to expect numbers even in the same ballpark as last year’s. In fact I expect him to struggle and continue his decline this season. And that’ll be a very big problem.
I was really, really really hoping for a big offer for Teixiera as he would be an stellar defensive, heart of the order bat for the next 7-8 years.
Lmillz is in the studio working on a new song for K-rods entrance.
countdown to April 6th anyone?
i need baseball in my life.
Santana – Putz – K-Rod
Santana will have 25+ Wins!
Make that 28.
nice…Pelfrey Clause

Does anyone have a non-closer pitcher with entrance music?
How cool would it be to have the 8th and 9th innings guys with music?
And you are dead-on about ThunderStruck (even though I love the way For Those About to Rock builds as well and think it would be cool entrance music)
Matt: I hate to keep harping on this, because I genuinely love the blog, but this site REALLY needs an editor.
“Santa Clause?” Come on. It’s just annoying to find all these constant spelling errors here.
If you decide to hire a freelance editor, please contact me.
Thanks.
Going from a club where opposing teams who were losing just though ‘wait until the BP comes in, we’ll get them then’ – to one no one will want to face is something I never thought would happen in one year…
Can’t wait for the ‘09 season.
Now bring back the old format, please.
I hope Putz doesn’t use Thunderstruck for the 8th inning. It’s really energizing but it’s only the 8th inning.

best pic was Anna Benson.
Man, I love that Stottlemyre talk!
