I am really about using Putz as a fireman. I can’t count how many times the Mets had a small lead in the 6th or 7th with based loaded and 0/1 out. This is the time the game needs to be saved, not the 9th! I guess the whole ‘save’ stat being garbage is another discussion, but I think using Putz in this manner will give us 4-6 games that we would not have won otherwise.

SI.com’s Jon Heyman believes the Mets and free agent Oliver Perez are too far apart in negotiations for a deal to be reached.

Heyman lists the Brewers, Dodgers, Reds and perhaps the Mariners as potential suitors for Perez. He’s believed to want $14 million per season for five years.
