Perez and Boras are both insane.

He is a basket case who really has had it better here than he would anywhere else with any other organization.

Go chase the dollars and be a slave with Mr. Boras, see how far that gets you Ollie.

Yeah and if the Mets and Perez are miles apart then all those other teams woill be as far apart from Perez's demands or even further....

None of those teams will offer more than the Mets.

When Perez tanks with another team, i'll laugh. Omar is smart to not go too high on him.

I'm surprised teams don't bid with some wearyness on Ollie

I don't think Pedro or Garcia go anywhere without a guaranteed MLB contract. Are you going to tell Pedro he has to compete with Jon Niese in spring training to make the team?

I am coming around to the idea of signing Lowe, like a lot of people on Metsblog. I think Omar is playing it right with Ollie-- I wouldn't pay him more than $50-$55 million over 4 years, and I don't want to go 5 with him-- he's way too inconsistent. With Lowe, why not try and give him a higher salary for less years (given his age) and snag him with a 3 year deal worth $56 million, with a 4th year option that vests with certain #s of wins/appearences/whatever.

Then you can go get a veteran to compete with Niese for the #5 slot, like Garcia, or even Pedro (he might want to come back with his buddy Lowe on the team...)

TRS:

I can't see why the Mets would be interested in Wolf but not Sheets. Both are huge injury risks (Wolf may actually be a bigger risk) but Sheets at least has the upside of a 1-2. Wolf, at his very best, is a 4. Wolf is a terrible risk. High risk/low reward. Until last season he hadn't pitched more than 136 innings since 2003!! I could only consider Wolf for a short-term deal and if a real durab'e 2-3 type pitcher (Lowe) is brought in too.

Garland is another guy not worth paying to a long term deal. Jason Marquis would do what Garland does (eat average to below average major league innings) for a one year commitment and can be had for a song.

Kalihan,

I don't think it'll be major trading, it'll most likely be Schneider or Castro. Or 2nd tier prospect perhaps. OR, it could be salary dump that the Mets can take from other teams.

Vargas could have an ERA that low but I see no sign yet that Figgy or Niese could this year.

On the "log jam" mentioned earlier....I think about the only thing I miss about Steve Phillips as GM was hat he would make deal any time of the year. Didn't Glavine sign on Christmas? Or was it thanksgiving? All I remember was that for better, or much more likely for worse, there was never a lull in the action with Phillip.
