SNY will replace Matt Yalloff with Chris Carlin as host of the Mets Pre– and Post-Game Show,
reports Neil Best of Newsday, who adds that Bobby Ojeda will likely replace Lee Mazzilli, who the network has already decided not to re-sign.
…ojeda…really…i actually know nothing about him, in terms of on-air skills, but am interested to see what he’s all about…
…as for yalloff and mazz, i wish them well…they were always supportive of me and MetsBlog.com, and did their best to make me look more competent on air…
Speaking of television…
Best also reports that SI.com’s Jon Heyman will join the MLB Network as a ‘baseball insider.’
…i hope this doesn’t impact his role on SNY and WFAN, since i enjoy hearing his take locally on the Mets, as opposed to only news about the entire league…
So far, Barry Larkin, Dan Plesac, Al Leiter, and Harold Reynolds, among other former players, have already been announced as part of the MLB Network team.
…it’s funny, every time i put the MLB Network on, it’s some in-depth retrospect about the 2004 Red Sox, which inevitably makes my Yankee-fan wife sigh, shake her head and walk out of the room…

i’d really rather not have to listen to carlin before and after every game… loudmouths is where he belongs if he belongs at all
agreed kowalkski,
i’m not a huge fan of carlin at all.
or kowalski
Carlin?
Why??
your wife must be very pleased with the Yanks off season signings…
hope Omar gets busy so we can dream of another “subway” series with a new outcome!
How does your wife put up with a bloggers schedule, she must be a very patient woman!
I recall Ojeda being a good interview back in the day, I hope it translates into his forthcoming tv work.
I’m not excited about Carlin at all. I liked Yallof, I thought he handled the show well, kept things moving, injected humor where appropriate. I hope Carlin does well and proves my preconceived notions to be ill conceived, since I’ll be watching often.
YES!!! yalloff is GONE!!!!. Belated Christmas present. I likes LEE hated to see him go. Yalloff with is smugginess not so much.
If Carlin does Mets pre game then who will do loudmouths. can he do 2 shows back to back
I don’t think Carlin is that bad. He does a good job on the Giants’ pre-game shows.
Yalloff was horrible. His over-the-top homerism made me cringe.
I am not looking forward to Carlin at all. Listening to him before and after Mets games, definitely not good news to say the least.
Carlin is a know-nothing fat slob. His shtick is self-deprication, that’s it … Yalloff and Mazz were perfect. Yalloff was a pro and Mazz was genuine.
houston you have no idea what your talking about…
Carlin must be the hardest working guy in the local area in terms of gigs, hes got the morning warm up from 5-6am on the fan…then he does updates on the fan from 6-10
Carlin also does both football and basketball for Rutgers University
The Giants pre game show
And he has his SNY shows he does
Guy works his tail off, he knows his stuff very well, and is far from a know nothing
Just because a guy might be a little heavy, doesnt mean you should drag him through the mud
he does work hard, and the fatness is a cheap shot… but the guy just talks for the sake of talking a lot of the time. I’ve never once heard him say anything insightful. Nothing with him goes remotely deep.
The last thing I want to hear is Carlin’s negativity about everything Mets related.
I actually like Yallof, thought he was the most professional guy on the network.
well, this is the worst news i’ve heard today … why don’t they just get Joe Morgan to call the game too and really make me not watch SNY.
Agreed…looks like the only way I’ll be watching the pre/post games is with the mute button on.
I wasn’t a huge Yallof fan but he’s got to be about 1000 times better than Carlin.
Raissman wrote today that Chris Cotter is going to Fox Business Channel (that channel sux btw)… is it me or did Cotter start looking 10 years older and way more uptight over the past six months.
i was never a cotter fan. So is yallof replacing him on DNL?
The link in Matt’s post actually leads to Raissman and the Daily News, not Newsday. Raissman states that Jonas Schwartz will replace Cotter on DNL. I like Schwartz. Now if they would just get rid of the annoying as hell Benigno, I might start watching again.
I didn’t even realize the MLB network existed yet….anyone know what channel on DirecTV?
My understanding is that it launches Jan 1st, so I’m confused about Matt saying he watches it already.
I’m not sure about this but I read somewhere that it will be channel 213 on DirecTV. Nothing currently on that channel.
MLB Network launches on January 1. I don’t know what you and your wife have been watching.
And I hate Carlin. Might as well hire Craig Carton. He just takes an against the grain viewpoint to rile people up. It’s the sad state of talk radio and I really hope this doesn’t spill over into Mets pre/post games.
MLB Network is on the air but the programming doesn’t start until Jan. 1. All they are showing right now is the 2004 and 2005 WS highlights.
i thought the mlb channel launched on 1/1/09. matt is already watching it?
I saw that Cablevision added MLB Network HD to channel 790. There’s a ticker that reminds us that they launch on 1/1 at 6pm but they have a looping special on right now.
Matt has been watching the MLB network preview…i’ve been watching it also. If you turn on the channel (149 or 400 for io cablevision) you get sneak previews for the MLB network..and yes, they often show the 04 world series highlights.
as for carlin, I’m a fan, i like loudmouths and i’m looking forward to his take on the pre and post game shows….but some of those met games end really late…how will he wake up for the 5am morning show on the fan?
I think Carlin is leaving the FAN after Jan 2.
cool thanks. i’ll have to see if they have the preview on directv
Lee Mazzilli didn’t impress me that much on pre and post game. He always had this cynical viewpoint, and he seemed to have this subtle arrogance when addressing his co-host.
Mazzilli was terrible. He gave no insight and threw out cliches left and right.
Carlin’s a pompous moron who has the most annoying lisp. Well, Yalloff does too, so it’s one lisp replacing another.
i definitely will miss mazz. he holds a special place in a lot of Met fans hearts from the 70s and 80s.
i liked matt yallof but i will remember him for all of the post game show disappointments from the mets. not his fault.
as for chris carlin, i am not really a fan of his. he must know someone to get all of these gigs. i am a rutgers fan and most RU fans do not really care for his play-by-play work. i do not think met fans will like him on pre and post game live. he may give opinions that do not necessarily jive with the wilpons. with cotter out i thought kevin burkhardt would have potential to replace yallof. i would certainly prefer him over the overexposed carlin.
By the way, I won’t miss Yalloff either… As a Mets fan, I don’t want somebody telling me how the Mets suffered a devastating loss, and give me the blow by blow, all the while with a smile on his face.
Sometimes I couldn’t help feeling like he was a closet Yankee fan, and saying “hee hee hee” under his breath while reporting on the Mets misery.
I agree, i didn’t care much for yallof…but now i’m interested, how come burkhardt didn’t get the gig? you would think he was next in line for that? I guess they wanna keep him doing those stupid field trips at all the stadiums.
Wow, I couldn’t disagree more. That’s one of the things I loved about Yalloff. that he was clearly a Mets fan, and that those painful losses hurt him, too. You could tell.
I think Burkhardt (whom I think is excellent) has an eye out for the Mets booth if any of the big three ever leave (not going to happen).
I could see Ron Darling leave SNY. He’d be the only one I can picture leaving for greener pastures.
Gary and Keith aren’t going anywhere unless Keith goes on an epicly awesome tirade or something.
I actually liked Yallof. I like Loudmouths too but I don’t know if Carlin’s style on that show will translate to the pre and post game shows. Since I tune into all pre and post shows I guess I’ll be finding out….
Awww, what a shame. I would definitely prefer Yallof to Carlin. He’s an actual Mets fan, and has all the enthusiasm of one. Isn’t Carlin more of a Yanks fan? If Yallof has to be replaced, Adam Schein would have been a much better option.
I agree. I like Schein much more.
do u have to pay for the mlb network or is it gunna be free??? anyone kno?
I’m never watching the Mets Pre/Post game on SNY now. I don’t care for Carlin.
Carlin. Overexposed—more exposed than your average porn star (perish the thought!) A Texas Rangers fan. A screaming headache of a buffoon. A guy, like Francesca, you may be able to endure for an hour if you were a gambler and he was giving football picks. Talk about the Peter Principle…
Meanwhile there are tons of intelligent baseball rationalists (i.e., Richard Neer) and actual Mets fans (i.e., Evan Roberts, Steve Somers) at WFAN that are utterly ignored by SNY.
Mazzilli was beginning to gel as an analyst. Burkhardt is a talented host when given the chance.
I don’t know who’s running SNY, but I’d relieve him/her of their job.
o god!! I can’t stand Carlin, his voice more than his face. ugh, no more pregame for me, I guess.
Since this is Wayne Hagin’s last year of his two year contract, it would be nice to see Burkhardt get his role in 2010. Hagin just seems so-so on play-by-play and seems more fit for a mid-west team than he does for NY. I think Burkhardt would be an excellent play-by-play man and seems wasted at times during sidelines for the SNY coverage of Met games. Afterall, Gary was the mets radio voice for many years until he got the gig with SNY.
Matt Yallof is my favorite one on SNY – why the hell would they get rid of him?!
He’s not even a Mets fan wtf?
Really? Is that true? Well, at first I thought to myself that he would go down a notch for that (and probably he should), but I never picked up on it (unless you’re just pulling my leg).
What was SNY thinking about replacing Matt Yalloff with Chris Carlin. Does SNY want this to be a comedy hour. Bobby Ojeda will not be able to get a word in .
Ughh enough with Carlin, and what was wrong with Yaloff and Mazz? I liked them both.
Carlin is good on Loudmouths. I liked Yaloff. Is SNY going to add another show? He is a good host, and would like to see another program, maybe some investigative reporting segement like Bob Ley on ESPN, or a one-on-one interview program like Michael (Yankee Cheerleader) Kay. This summer they tried something similiar with Johan and Tom Seaver. I like Yaloff and he needs to have a place on SNY.
Burkhardt I will agree is a rising star. It is fun watching his career take off. Lets just hope he becomes our version of Mike Breem.
Carlin diserves a chance, Lets check back on this subject at or aroound the trade deadline.
Mazz I like him as a Met, but on the air, night after night I did feel he was getting stagnent. No real depth, no real insider perspective. We can only hope Ojeida provides us viewers with “something” more.
Peace :)
FILL IN THE BLANK:
Good evening everyone and welcome to the Mets postgame show, I’m your host ______
A. UNCLE FESTER
B. MIKE FRANSESCA JR
C. BABY SHAMU
D. LEX LUTHOR WITH A THYROID CONDITION
D. GEORGE THE ANIMAL STEELE
Carlin has to have compromising pictures of Mark Chernoff and the Wilpons because I have no idea how he is so successful. He has an annoying, grating voice (worse than Fran Healy, and that’s hard), plus he’s god awful to look at. It makes no sense.
That being said, Kevin Burkhart should have a bigger role, he’s the best of the whole bunch. Hopefully, he doesn’t get picked up somewhere else.
Can someone PLEASE explain this one to me? Not about Maz being replaced, but about Matt Yalloff… I loved him in that role. What about him needs to be replaced? He was a true Mets fan, it was obvious. He would always make me feel a little better after a loss, especially a tough one, as you could tell it bothered him as well. Plus, he was honest and funny about it.
Carlin’s a wet blanket. He just likes to be negative, even when others are excited. When the Mets were playing really well at one point, when they took over first place even, he would keep telling callers not to get excited, and he would have his diatribes about not getting exciting, that fans should be cautious in their optimism, since the pen is still horrible, even if they had been pitching well that particular week. And sure, he was right, but did he have to be a wet blanket to every excited caller? Did he have to try to take away any fun fans were having when the Mets were finally doing well, were finally winning? What, he didn’t think we were all too painfully aware that we still had the worst bullpen of any contending team? Of course we knew this. But in the meantime, we just took two out of three from the Phillies, after our pen had just blown the opening game (for example).
I am sorry. I just don’t see it. I mean, not only are they replacing someone I REALLY liked in that pre-game/post-game role, but they are replacing him with someone I REALLY could do without. And I just don’t get it. Sure, Carlin’s fine on Loud Mouths, but I don’t want to see him doing the Mets games, not one bit. It wouldn’t bother me as much if he wasn’t replacing Yalloff, though. Ugh!
The only problem I have with Loudmouths is that it should be called Morons. I don’t usually watch post-game stuff, and Carlin will turn the “usually” to “virtually never”. He’s obnoxious, pompous, and really, really dumb. He’s like Franscesa, except less pompous and possibly dumber.
I hope then , Carlin’s off BEER $ and we get more of Julie Alexandria.
Well, for the pre-games it looks like I will just turn on WFAN and listen to Eddie Coleman.
As far as MLB Network: if you have digital cable, you will have the network FOR FREE. Right now, matt is watching the previews in a TEST market…several communities around tri state area have that (not everyone).
Network is exciting because it will literally be 24 hours baseball…
I think its available in 50 million homes…no other cable channel in HISTORY has opened that large…
Hey as long as they win they can put who ever they want in studio…Ben Stein and Guiseppe Franco would be fine with me as long as they are reporting on us running away with the division…cruising thru the playoffs and dominating the world series!!!
it doesnt matter whos on sny but
get this i looked this up:
in 06 there was less interviews
08 more interviews
less=less stress/ more rest/ less frustration
