With a weak bench in 2009, would Castillo be of value if he can stop-gap at short and 3rd with some training during spring if we get an Orlando Hudson type? Reyes and Wright are exhausted at year's end because they've had no legit or healthy backups the past few years. Castillo, for all his faults, can reach base, can advance runners, and does have baseball smarts. OK, he'll be an expensive spot starter and pinch hitter, but we may have no other choice. Whatever the reason, those guys could have been traded outside of the division (and since both have been tough on the Mets I wish they would have been).
