At his blog Sully Baseball, Paul Sullivan thinks the Tigers, A’s, Padres, Dodgers, Twins, Yankees, and Mets may all still be haunted by their 2006 failures.

Ted Berg of SNY.tv humorously starts counting down his choices for K-Rod’s warm-up song, writing:

“Picture it: Ninth inning, home team up by a run, middle of the order due up, tension mounting, and “chingety-ching heehaw, heehaw, it’s Dominick the Donkey!”

…nice one ted, i’d personally choose public enemy’s ’shut em down’…

At Amazin’ Avenue, Eric Simon continues his series of best Mets players by decade, highlighting the most effective pitchers based on SNLVAR. Mets Geek describes this statistic as the following:

“SNLVAR measures wins above replacement level for a pitcher; it avoids the noise of Wins Above Replacement Level because it doesn’t take offense or defense into account. Considering some pitcher’s hit much better, it’s good to be able to separate those items out if need be.”

Jon Heyman at Sports Illustrated ranks his top 20 free agents this offseason.

…in case you are wondering, braden looper didn’t make the cut…looper by the way is reportedly seeking a three-year deal worth about $7-$8 million per season...

Lastly, the blog Mostly Mets forwards new pictures from WCBS of the construction and demolition of the Mets’ ballparks.

why the cheap shot on braden looper… the guy gutted it out for us in 05 while injured

  4. reillys5 says:

since has been a slow couple of days..i was thinking about my favorite 2008 moment

mine was was delgado hit the 2 out 2 strike 2 run double off of romero in the 8th, when wright scored and pumped his fist i could have done 900 push ups i got so pumped up

anyone want to share their own favorite 08 moments?

    • J0eSmiTh says:

that was a great game, especially because i was there. haha..

might have been murphys double off lidge to put us ahead in late august..

      • reillys5 says:

that was a huge game too – right after the blown 7-0 lead game – man there was a lot of tough losses to swallow this past year – does anyone else feel relief or even exhaled even after a big win because of the pen – im really happy with the look of this new bullpen

  5. dave27 says:

Looper’s been a very effective starter for St. Louis. If we ddin’t boo him out of town, you could do worse than him in the 5th spot.

Speaking of former Cardinals, anyone think Izzy is worth a look for the re-vamped bullpen? I doubt he is getting any looks as a closer…would be something to actually get something from him 14 years after his rookie season…his only good one with the Mets.

  6. i still say play party hard by andrew wk before every home game!!!!

  7. metinDC23 says:

Looper’s very undervalued right now. I’d have no problem getting him for a short-term deal.

    • what makes u think loopy would wanna come back to us?? if i remember right we booed him worse than heilman and armando benitez combined

      • metinDC23 says:

        revisionist history?

        • dave27 says:

What does that mean? He’s not a closer anymore. Look at his numbers – he is very undervalued on this starter’s market.

          • reillys5 says:

as a met fan, i am all about respect – i could take ryan church not playing well down the stretch because of the concussions because he played hard

when i heard that looper started the “PUT IT IN THE BOOKS” chant in our locker room in our house after game 7 in 06 – i would never take him back on my team – give me john franco NOW instead of looper in his “prime”

  8. CaseStreet says:

Interesting that the Mets are linked to every pitcher on that list except for Andy.

  9. enterkrod says:

    ok..milton to the cubs

  14. pkpiazza says:

just putting it out there, wat about uncle Cliffy for the bench

    • dave27 says:

Sentimentally? Of course. For the locker room? Definitely. On the field? I don’t see a role for him.

  15. sabermetrician says:

The market is really starting to shape up. We still can live in a dream world of Lowe, Sheets, and Manny; but there’s also a strong possibility of something like Lowe, Wolf or Redding, and an outfielder from a trade like Rowand, Dye, Nady, etc. I really like Omar’s approach. It’s nerve racking waiting, but I think he’s going to put together a winner when all is said and done.

    • dave27 says:

Manny is a dreamworld. THE METS ARE NOT GOING TO SIGN MANNY. How many times do they have to say so before people stop?

  16. nsr says:

i think my favorite moment last year was when delgado hit the home run off of Lidge to tie the game in the eighth in philadelphia. It was this home run that allowed murphy and schieder to come up and hit big doubles.

    • Cactus says:

Impossible, Lidge had 0 blown saves for the season. I believe the HR was off Seanez.

      • nymgb44 says:

That’s true. Not that this matters, but Lidge was TERRIBLE in non-save situations last year. Maybe a sign of things to come?

        • dave27 says:

I think you are thinking of a game-tying homer Delgado hit off Tom Gordon in 2006.

          • dave27 says:

Oh right, Delgado did have a tying HR this year, I think it was Seanez.

But he did hit one off Gordon in ‘06 ;)

          • reillys5 says:

your right, it was a very questionable call from charley manuel while and after it happened. instead of bringing lidge in he left seanez. then he brought lidge in who was greeted by murphys bullet of a double and scheiders drop in…man i miss baseball….

  17. sshoreli says:

I have been dreaming of someone good enough with the b@lls to use Shut ‘em Down as their warm up song…as long as it is the Pete Rock Remix version. The original is a bit dull.

  18. SantanaClause says:

Mitch Williams on MLBN Hotstove Live is an idiot.
    1) Sean Green is not a lefty
    2) Jose Reyes doesn’t need to tone down because if he paid any atention to the Mets he would realize that when Reyes tried this year to tone down he was awful and he got better when he was told to just be himself.\
    3) David Wright is not a quiet leader. He speaks with the media everynight.
4)That club house does have some problems but its not 25 players with 25 cliques. I have seen some team in this club aka all the rookies wearing the Michael Phelps atire.

So please Mr. Williams if you are going to talk about the Mets get your facts straight.

    • Metfreak says:

Amen I was thinking the same thing Billy Wagner said maybe 2 things and he thinks that the club house is split

    • Metfreak says:

Why are the Phillies always thinking about Jose I know Williams is retired but he is still a Phillie

    • Pedro says:

Good point, but of all the ridiculous things that he said…the statement that proves he has no business being on any sort of baseball anaysis-type show is when he said that the Marlins had good defense last year!!

The other guy corrected him, but anbody that can drop an uneducated comment like that should not be on TV talking about baseball. I mean, wow. The Marlins might have had the worst defense I’ve seen in 5 yrs, just dispicable.

      • steadyeddie says:

        Mitch is a tool…
And before my statement let me say I am 54 years old and have followed and the loved the Mets since the Polo Grounds thru thick and thin… alot of thin…
that being said, Reyes’ dancing and nonsense has no place on a baseball field. The Mets have accomplished nothing during his time on the team in teams of being champions.
Personally, I find it stupid to celebrate when all we do is fail by the time Oct rolls around.
Ya wanna dance dance with a trophy over you’re head.
Do fancy handshakes after the final out in the WS and your team has WON.
Trading Reyes and filling his spot with a mature baseball player would NOT upset me. Thank you and let the hate begin….

        • steadyeddie says:

          ….”team, in terms of…”
          sorry

        • enterkrod says:

how can you not like watching jose celebrate?..thats why baseball is fun…i have no problem with him or anyone else on the team doing any type of celebrating as long as they can back it up….i cant believe you are a mets fan and dont like jose having fun and being himself…

    • dave27 says:

I think Mitch Williams, who was the one starting in on Reyes during their parade, should remember his place in baseball history.

I wonder if he thought Joe Carter also celebrated excessively….mullet-headed d-bag.

  19. Max32 says:

There’s a song by this group “Over it” called “Gunslinger”.

I always thought that the title of “Gunslinger” would fit a closer amazingly well. Plus, the song is awesome.

“And now you’re running out of time,
Running out of time to draw the line.
You heard the world was moving on,
World was moving on with you a step behind.
And now you’re running out of time, Running out of time.
Your life flashes before your eyes.”

    Check it out!

  20. Hazmet says:

I’ve now officially entered blogoleptic shock that there is so little movement in Metland that we’ve been reduced to discussing incompentent lefty broadcasters and weighing in on K-Rod’s music, although there are some good suggestions here. Omar, please do something just so we have something to talk about. The talent pool is slowly but surely evaporating to other rosters leaving teams we wouldn’t think of getting involved in player’s like Manny (ie Rangers) and tempting teams we don’t want to get involved on Lowe (ie Braves, Phillies) to maybe say why not?

    Time’s a tickin’

  21. sabermetrician says:

I am getting so anxious for Omar to start making some moves. I know he’s biding his team looking for the best deals, but it’s driving me batty just waiting. I think we’ll get Lowe this week. After that I’m really curious where he’s going to move next. I like the idea of Sheets, but I don’t think he’s going that route. Manny of course would be great, but we know it’s not in the cards. This is driving me nuts, but it’s still fun to follow.

    • sabermetrician says:

      * “biding his time…”

      • SantanaClause says:

i no but im tired of twidling my thumbs making comments that dont have to do with games or new players. I need Some sort of transaction. Even if its a minor league move. ANYTHING!!

        • Hazmet says:

I’ve now decended into the lowest depths of offseason boredom and have pulled out the copy of the Daily News I saved from June 16, 1977 when the Mets traded Seaver. I used to have Newsday also but I turned M. Donald Grant into a dartboard.

          • MetsFan4Decades says:

hahaha – I think that goes down as the worst trade in NY Met history. I honestly could not believe it when I heard it first announced back in ‘77. M. Donald Grant – talk about the King of Cheap….

  22. nymgb44 says:

Jerry Crasnick reported on ESPNews that the Mets, along with the Braves, may have interest in signing Bobby Abreu to a one-year contract with an option. Thoughts?

    • phukthephills says:

i really dont love abreu but he does put up some good numbers…..just another left to add to the lineup…just a question…if we do get a left fielder where does murphy go?? minors?? bench?? bench doesnt work tho cuz he needs to be playing at a young age.

      • nymgb44 says:

Honestly, I’d rather see Murphy as the third hitter in Buffalo than as a bench player with the Mets, but I think he’d be a super-sub, being the top pinch hitter on the squad as well as the first baseman during games in AL parks while Delgado plays DH. I’ve come around on Abreu. I realize he’s afraid of the wall, but he’d have arguably the best defensive outfielder in the major leagues next to him, and his offensive potential is undeniable. I don’t even care that he’s a lefty. We have to realize there’s a good chance Delgado slips this year. If he does, Abreu could and would pick up the slack.

      • reillys5 says:

im not a big fan of abreu…i would only like this deal IF we traded scheider and either got a righy catcher (molina) or gave castro the full time job (even though he gets injured and i love his bat off the bench)..then it would bolster the lineup..

abreu would replace schieder and castro would be a big bat at the bottom of the lineup

reyes church beltran delgado wright abreu castro castillo – or in a different order probably with abreu near the top, beltran in the 2, or wright in the 3..either way i would really like this

    • fongulalou says:

I’d take Abreau in a second.
      Reyes-Abreau-Wright-Beltron&Delgado
would be a pretty nice top5 and off-set
the weakness @ the lower 3rd of the order.
All Abreau does is hit, walk&drive in runs.

      • nymgb44 says:

My thoughts exactly. The only problem with Abreu is that he was a Phillie AND a Yankee. That adds insult to injury. But for 20+ HRs, 100+ RBI and 20+ steals, I think I’d get beyond it.

I wrote pa$$ed in my first comment, and it’s awaiting moderation.

        • fongulalou says:

Plus outside of Manny theres not a guy left
out there who would help the others around
him in the lineup more. Abreau sees as many
if not more pitches than anyone and like Manny has no problem hitting behind/deep
in counts. What he does for those infront and
behind him in the order cant be measured
just by HIS stats. Take that sabermetrics.

  23. stemog1 says:

J.C. Romero has been suspended for the first 50 days of the season for some supplement he used from GNC. Do the Phillies need to get a decent reliever to replace him? Beimel?

    • stemog1 says:

My point there is if they feel the need to get a lefty to replace Romero, and it’s someone costly like Beimel, would that definitely take them out of the running for Lowe, if they aren’t out already?

    • dave27 says:

More importantly, does Mitch Williams think Romero should tone it down?

    • Gland says:

That explains some of his roid rage celebrations on the mound.

      (yes a celebration!)

  24. scoopcoopdoop says:

Newsday and SNY report that Mets are confident that there are no other serious suitors for Lowe and they will stick by their 3/36 offer (especially since OP and Wolf have had no suitors either).

If Lowe does not work out Mets consider OP or Wolf as cheaper alternatives that may allow $$ to be spent elsewhere (no not Manny).

Pedro is also being considered as the 5th starter w/Niese and Parnell as backups (when he gets hurt of course).

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Just coming on here to report same for our fellow Met fans that might not get SNY. Just heard it on Sports Night.
It appears Omar is standing pat with that offer. If he gets away with it, he’ll be considered a genius this off season. If another team comes in and gives a higher offer, still think Boras will come back and let Omar have last crack at it so maybe Lowe is in the bag, just need to be patient.

Then can we go after a 5th starter and utility infielder – (someone who can play second and short) – simultaneously? These one deal at a time offers are killing me….

  25. enterkrod says:

im telling you…we will not be getting lowe..lowe wants a whole lot more money than the mets want to give him..im telling you we will be bringing perez back

    • SantanaClause says:

positive thing happen to those who think positively…

      • SantanaClause says:

or the other school of though is to build yourself up to deal with defeat so if it comes you’ve already come to terms with it and if success is on the horizon then you get a pleasent suprize.

      • enterkrod says:

lol…i agree..i mean dont get me wrong im hoping like hell we can land lowe..but i just think it will die off and move on to perez

        • enterkrod says:

thats what i think it is…i dont want to get so hyped up on the thought of lowe coming to new york on the chance that it doesnt happen…so when there is a headline on here or somewhere saying lowe and mets are close to deal…then ill believe..

        • reillys5 says:

enterkrod – if its money we are talking about, and you dont think the mets will get him..then who will pony up the cash? the yankees? (though i never count them out) the sillies? (they may need to add a lefty to the pen, as well as the arbitration raises) the braves? (biggest threat thus far, but i think the mets can outbid them)

this is the 2nd time i have read that you think they wont get lowe, my question to you is who do u think will get him?

  26. scoopcoopdoop says:

The one deal at a time is about $$. Mets have a budget despite what many on this board think otherwise. You can’t do simultaneous deals when you have a budget b/c what will you do when you still need that P or bat and then there is no more $$?

Lowe can ask for twice what Mets are offering but who is going to give it to him? Just like you might ask your boss for a big raise but if he only wants to give you half and there is no place else to get that bigger raise what are you going to do? Cry or take it until something better comes along?

But OP is still possible and I would be ok w/it.

  27. enterkrod says:

yeah i agree with the first part…but me personally i like perez…but i dont want to see him back..he pitched very very well against really good teams…thats great…but i cant stand watching a game on tv guessing which perez is going to show up

  28. enterkrod says:

although they do have money coming out of their gazoo…

  29. scoopcoopdoop says:

Besides why does Omar have to move quickly? It’s not as if every player is being signed this millsecond.

Boras and any other agent worth their fees will be calling Omar before their player signs w/any other team.

  30. enterkrod says:

he doesnt have to move quickly and im not saying he does…its just boring..lol..

  31. scoopcoopdoop says:

Sure Mets have lots of $$ and I’d like to see them spend every $$, but it’s not the Wilpons team and business not yours.

They can do what they want and since Omar came on board they are spending more b/c they have figured out that to make $$ you have got to have a good product. Just don’t ever expect a Yankee payroll.

  32. enterkrod says:

baseball season..not even the season…even fricken spring training i wish that would get here

  33. scoopcoopdoop says:

Soon it will not be boring b/c Mets are going to sign one “top” SP and one 5th SP.

Pitchers and C report in a bout 6 wks. First game on SNY I believe is about March 1st.

  34. enterkrod says:

i dont want to see them spend like the yankees…never ever

  35. enterkrod says:

thats another thing i cant stand…how can people right now…make a prediction as to who will win the world series?..i understand its a prediction…but you still have almost like 60% free agents still on the market…i mean..talk to me about predictions in june or july..not january

  36. VCarver says:

I don’t know if anyone mentioned this yet but Romero was suspended 50 games for PEDs usage ..,.. oh those gritty cheatin’ Phils!!

    • Genesis Does says:

That explains his magical 07 turnaround. Of course the more I hear about the 07 Phillies (rumors of sign stealing, gentlemans agreement with other nl east teams to play harder against the Mets) the more I hate them.

However, Madson (their Heilman) stepped it up big time in 08 and pretty much made Romero and afterthought.

  37. mistermet says:

Yankees will sign Perez and/or Manny. Then I’ll be officially done with this team.

  38. VCarver says:

I hope Omar stands pat on Lowe. I hate boras. I hate the way he manipulates teams with lies. Even if they lose Lowe, it’s worth it to take a stand here since there’s not a load of difference between Lower and some of the remaining starters. He’s not a big difference maker like Santana is.

    • EncinoMets says:

      Couldn’t agree more.
Omar sticking to 3/36 brings a huge smile to my face.
      What a mench!

  39. mistermet says:

Mets have 2 starters right now- hard to even count Maine, off the bad injury. And Pelfrey will be coming down to earth this year.

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Maine didn’t have a ‘bad’ injury. It was relatively straightforward procedure to shave down a bone and/or bone chip in his shoulder.
Where do you get this stuff from?

  40. mistermet says:

And the offense was not upgraded, how is that possible.

  41. EncinoMets says:

Why are you always focusing on the negatives and expecting the worse?….and don’t tell me because you’re a Met fan.

  42. enterkrod says:

the longer we wait on lowe the more players will get signed..we need to upgrade the offense too..so lets get some pitching already

  43. EncinoMets says:

    *worst

  44. enterkrod says:

because other than upgrading the bullpen omar has not done anything yet…i could have told you lowe wouldnt accept that offer…i understand what he is doing with being patient..but at the same time…we cant stop at pitching…up the price a little more..he isnt going to settle for that…you know some other team will eventually come into play

  45. EncinoMets says:

I didn’t realize that Opening Day is next week?
Isn’t it in 3 months?just because we are all dying to get some juicy news on the next signing doesn’t mean that Omar isn’t playing this offseason perfectly. Most teams would be happy with having the offseason we’ve had, which so far has been huge.
No otherteams are going to get involved for Loew because no other teams thinks he is worth more than what the mets offered/or has the money to allocate for him and his value.
    Capiche?

  46. EncinoMets says:

enterkrod, no offense, but you would make a lousy businessman with the attitude of paying whatever someone wanted just to get a deal done as quickly as possible.
That’s why Omar is the GM and you’re an impatient, hysterical fan.

  47. enterkrod says:

and when we sign lowe..whether it be the end of this week or next week…bradley is signed..burrell is signed…giambi is gonna be signed…how about the offense?…

    • stickguy says:

well, let me know when someone that makes any sense for the Mets gets signed.

      You just named 3 DHs.

  48. EncinoMets says:

last I checked, our offense has been pretty high up their compared to other teams. Pitching has been our liability.
And if Omar had/has any interest in Abreu, Dunn, or even Manny, I think he would have dropped a hint to check in with him before signing a deal. Omar was never interested in Burrell or Bradley.

  49. enterkrod says:

last time i checked we had two seasons go down the drain the last game of the season..excuse me if im impatient with the mere fact of that…you make it sound like once we get lowe its done…we need more offense…we need a few more relievers..and we need another starting pitcher…so while omar is waiting on lowe..people will get signed and we will be left with..lowe and krod and putz coming to the mets..i completely agree with you that he doesnt have to push it..but my point is whats gonna happen once they are getting signed?…and we are still waiting on lowe?

  50. enterkrod says:

so you feel comfortable going into the season with castillo at second and a platoon of murphy and tatis..positive that they will have the numbers they put up last year..and delgado?..ohhh and schnieder batting too..come on

  51. enterkrod says:

AND church coming back from two concussions..which shouldnt be an issue..

  52. EncinoMets says:

We finished a few games out of the WS champions after losing our closer and having ineffective set-up all season.
    Not bad in my opinion.
I don’t have a knee-jerk reaction that we have to overhaul the whole team.
We needed to address the 8th and 9th and replace OP if he is retained…so yes, after landing KRod Putz and either Lowe or OP, I would be happy if thats all we did besides minor tweaks.
If we get a Sheets or Dunn or Abreu on top of that, I’d be stoked , but if we stood pat I wouldn’t be freaking out.

  53. enterkrod says:

im not saying overhaul the whole team..those words never came out of my mouth..im saying if we added a bigger bat than those guys i would be content on letting castillo and schnieder be in the lineup…but murphy/tatis..castillo AND schnieder are not going to cut it…not to mention murphy came up halfway through the season..you really think he will be able to produce the whole year like he did half of last year?….im pretty sure everyone would agree with me in that we need a big bat in the middle of the lineup..

  54. EncinoMets says:

I mean I’m getting impatienta nd bored too, but I applaud the way Omar is handling things .
I actually like Schneider (who could we logically get that is better) and Castillo (who I think will have a bounce back year).
I’m actually optimistic about Church and Murphy as well.
The Phils won with Ruiz catching, and Werth/Jenkins platooning and Moyer and his AARP membership.
We don’t need an All-Star at every position

    • saber-toothed tiger says:

I wouldn’t worry about the Mets having an all-star at every position because clearly they don’t have that. So you can rest easy. :)

dont get me wrong i do too.lol..and i think we both have two good fighting arguments..if we can go back in time and get piazza back in his prime im all for it if you are..lol..and i do hope castillo has a bounce back year..it would be nice..i feel bad for the guy..dude touches the ball he is getting booed..lol..i love church and loved when omar picked him up..i actually like werth..i wish we could get him to be honest..he awlays seems to like to kill the mets too by the way..and again…i just want to see a bat in the lineup that can provide some type of power..other than delgado and church for that matter can hit for raw power…i guess you cant count wright in there somewhere…but hes more of a gap hitter..beltran too

    • saber-toothed tiger says:

Although you can’t anticipate injuries you can try and provide some depth in case one of the key players goes down for a short period. Now unless you’re the Yankees you can’t load up on super stars and anyone that expects that will be disappointed. However you can’t leave yourself woefully thin either. Wright, Beltran and Reyes played in 160, 159 and 161 games, respectively last year. You can hope, but can’t expect them to repeat that in the coming season. Hence one more strong bat would be welcome.

we can even let Julio Franco come back and play CF

  61. stickguy says:

It does sound like JC might be getting a raw deal. Entirely possible the suspension gets overturned. But, it is nice to see the Phils start to have some bad luck for a change.

They really did have a charmed year last year. Hopefully they get the opposite this year (karma baby, karma).

Lowe probably still ends up a met. The quote from Omar wasn’t that he would not ever raise his offer, just that he did not have to at this time.

Still not a big Lowe fan though. I would like to see Omar start aggresively going after some of the other FA Sps (not Ollie of course!) and either snag a bargain (even if for the 5 hole), or to get Boras moving on a deal.

In or out, just S or get off the freakin pot!

    • alex242 says:

      stick:

i have a question, maybe you or somebody can answer it for me coz i sure as hell don’t understand, if you get busted for steroids in MLB, can you actually say when your gonna take the suspension? coz to me what happened last year was a disgrace, for all we know he could’ve taken that to boost his energy (stamina) to give him an edge.. is it ok for players to say i don’t want it now.?

      • therealsince86 says:

Agree completely, even if it happen to the Mets and they won the WS. It stains the win.

        • alex242 says:

they should’ve suspend him at the pint, god only knows how many big outs he got last year for them when he could’ve been suspended..

          • therealsince86 says:

Agreed. Baseball does not want to do that though because the playoffs is their only time that they get real primetime media coverage.

      • stickguy says:

Pretty sure you take it when they tell you to. The only delay is when you appeal (you get to keep playing) but normally when you drop the appeal, or it is denied, the suspension starts right away.

I figure he will appeal now, and the decision will be made before the season, so if it is upheld he misses the 1st 50 games.

He can hang out and play vidoe games with Utley, who should probably be out the same time rehabbing.

Man, if Lidge reinjures his knee, that team could be in a free fall!

        • therealsince86 says:

As good as their pen was this year, it has just as much of a chance as being as bad as our’s was this year as it does being that good again. Did that make sense, it’s early.

  62. therealsince86 says:

    Fantasy world post alert.
Trade Delgado to the Angels for Figgins and Morales.
Use the Delgado money and current money to sign 2 SP and Wiggy.
Reyes, Figgins, Beltran, Wright, Church, Wiggy, Murphy/Morales, Schnieder/Castro.

    Rotation
    Johan, Lowe, Pelfrey, Perez/Wolf, Maine

    Net cost
    Delgado -12
    Figgins, Wiggy and Morales +13
    Lowe and Perez +25
Net addition of 26 million and a completely changed team that is much younger.

    • therealsince86 says:

Not to mention that Figgins, Wiggy, Muprhy, and Morales all can play IF and OF.

    • alex242 says:

i can see the angels wanting delgado, but i don’t see us only asking for figgins and morales.. now throw saunders and figgy and maybe that looks more real.. as much as i don’t like delgado for a team like the angels who really need a big bat should be up..

      • therealsince86 says:

We won’t get Saunders. Maybe they have a LHRP they would throw in. However, Figgins and Morales is quite a haul for 1 year of Delgado. Morales is signed incredibly cheap through 2010 and most likely still will be arbitration elligible then.
Think about adding a guy with .330, .380 40 SB potential behind Reyes. As for Morales, I still think he will be a good player if he is ever given playing time.

        • therealsince86 says:

The guy had a very good 2007 callup and they still did not bring him in 2008. If I was him I would get disgruntle too.

          • alex242 says:

uh.. when you say .330 .380 40sb potential, who you talking about? i hope is not figgins

          • therealsince86 says:

Of course it’s Figgins. They guy had a bad year last year. Over his career he is a .290 .356 40 SB guy. He had an incredible 2007 in which he hit those very numbers so would you not say he has that potential if he already did it?

          • alex242 says:

so if he’s a 290 hitter why would you expect 330? i agree he’s a good player, but i think that by morales not being proven, we might lose in that trade.. and i want wiggy too, but not as out 5th hitter, if anything 6th or 7th..

          • therealsince86 says:

Alex, do you understand the word potential? In 2007 FIggins did hit .330, .390, 40 SB.

          • alex242 says:

i do TRS, but the guy is 31, and that was the only season he’s hit over 300!!!! how is it potential when he’s over 30!! he had a career year that’s all, now i agree he can create havoc in the bases, and can be good in our lineup and score a lot of runs, but if he hits 300 would be a major plus, let alone 330.. also, the past 2 years he’s average 114 games.. he’s been getting hurt

    • stickguy says:

I do that trade in a nanosecond. I don’t trust Delgado at all (although I do appreciate the couple of good months he had!)

best thing he can do for the Mets now is help reload with younger talent.

I highly doubt Omar will take such a bold step, which is disappointing.

yeah, they lose some HRs from the middle of the order. They also lose the GIDPs, big Ks, and clogging the basepathes! And the slumps.

Does Figggens lead off for the Angels? I would even think of hitting him 1st and Reyes 2nd.

But Reyes, Figgens, wright/beltran is a nice top 4, and only Schneider in your line up is a weak link.

Oh, and I notice that you don’t mention what you plan to do with Luis. Bench guy?

      • therealsince86 says:

Yes Castillo would be bench but could still get playing time at 2B as the other guys you can move around to give others breaks.

        • stickguy says:

Castillo on the bench could be interesting. But if they did do this theoretical deal, I bet he gets moved somehow (if not just released).

  63. stickguy says:

TRS, you also need to stop having conversations with yourself! J/K dude.

Also, to counter the “who replaces Delgados HRs” arguement, the team does.

HRs aren’t important by themselves. Runs are. And the “new TRS” lineup could score a bunch. It would still put up respectable HR figures, but spread over the whole line up (other than Schneider). So a lot of 20 HR guys to replace 1 30 HR guy.

And offset by way more OBP, speed, and consistancy (hopefully). More of an NL offense instead of an AL offense (Delgado).

Reyes/Figgens/Wright/Bletran? They will set a record for SBs by the top 4 in an order (if they hit that way).

    • alex242 says:

also remember something, schneider was hurt early in the season, even he can give us 15 home runs.. or maybe we get 20 out of him and castro, but guys, the most interesting player to watch is jose reyes, i think that finnaly this year, he will get recognition as the true team’s MVP.. i think he will have a MONSTER year..
