How do you expect the Mets to fix the system by giving up all their draft picks by picking up guys in the latter ends of their careers?

In the past you didn't know what you were going to get from early round players, but it appears more and more that the prospecting of young players has improved greatly. Let's give up two more early round picks for guys that may or may not fall apart a year or two into their contracts. They could be great, but they could also end up like another Pedro Martinez contract, get one good year and then injuries the rest of the way.

I agree with paying above slot to players with greater talent than taking what is there, but by continuously signing picks you will not reach the end goal of adding depth to the system. Take for instance the past two drafts, where most of our depth is in the lower parts of the minors.

I thought the idea was to get younger, not even older?

Maybe FMart is the reason the Mets have not gone after a Left Fielder in the free agent market. That and the fact that they still need two more starting pitchers.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but do you know how many minor leaguers there are with "great looking swings"? (Alex Escobar had a great looking swing.) So far, in his minor league career, he's done relatively nothing. He's even had trouble staying on the field for health reasons. Plus, we already have so many lefties in our line-up. Hopefully, he'll be up in September and we'll get a look see against "some" major league pitching.

Trying to buy a championship hasn't work out for the Yankees since 2000, but at least they were contenders. Most teams never had a chance, including the Mets for the most part.I rather spend and have some hope of being a champion, then not spending and knowing my team will be playing golf in October.

I agree with the comments about the wilpons. just cause the guy uses CAPS doesnt mean hes wrong. the wilpons can more than afford derek lowe and manny ramirez and still make money next year and dont give me some wise crack response about me not knowing their finances. we need derek lowe and frankly if we are not going to get manny we definitely need to take one of the other LFers out there like adam dunn. frankly the closer we get to the season the more i worry about our lineup with castillo, schneider, and a platoon in LF that does not really inspire much confidence (i love murph but fact is he could very well be a total fluke), thats alot of outs.

There will be a higher caliber of talent around him training and playing with the WBC team than in the scrubby spring training drills and exhibitions. Let him rub shoulders with Arod, Vlad, Pujols and whomever. It'll be a solid experience and a taste of what greatness is about. That's better than doing stretches and getting 30 at bats in A & B games alongside players with numbers in the 60s and 70s on their backs.
