Given that Dunn is a butcher in the OF and I believe that he will strikeout over 200 times and make the lineup very susceptible to LH pitching I would go with Murphy. At least then you are looking at a platoon with Tatis to balance the lineup and there won't nearly be as many K's.

Based on his numbers, his strikeout total would increase dramatically more than his power numbers if he saw more pitches.

Gina, where are you getting your info on Bobby Abreu? His career OBP is .405 compared to Dunn's .381. Dunn has only finished a season once with a .400 OBP. Granted, Abreu has an allergy to outfield walls, but he is still a decent outfielder with an above average arm and can cover alot more ground than Dunn. Abreu actually won a Gold Glove in 2005 with Philly. Dunn is a one dimensional offensive player who either strikes out, walks, or homers. Abreu, even though getting up in age can still run the bases, walks alot and really can work a pitcher, and hit .290 (.300 career avg.) with alot of extra base hits. I give Dunn the power edge but thats about it.

Hey christian warrior -

I been watching you and Gina go back & forth about Dunn while you each make valid points can I add this

1. Dunn hitting 5th which was mostly with Reds hit:
AB273 AVG.253 R46 H69 HR24 RBI53 BB63 K83

Edwin Encarnacion hitting 6th with Reds hit:
AB287 AVG.251 R42 H72 HR17 RBI38 BB31 K61

2. Dunn hitting 4th which was mostly with Ari hit:
AB152 AVG.217 R20 H33 HR7 RBI25 BB44 K49

Mark Reynolds hitting 5th with Ari hit:
AB308 AVG.250 R48 H77 HR17 RBI62 BB40 K117

To me Dunn hitting as cleanup guy If you do math his performance per at bats was consistent in most offensive categories except in HR's.

I believe this was due to him being less patient going away from his game trying to hit long ball and hit way less HR's.

Dunn in my opinion if allowed to just play his game and not be the go to guy can come in to Citi Fields and contribute hitting in 5 slot in a lineup like:

Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Delgado
Dunn
Church
Schneider

Dunn or Murphy for 1 year which is better?

Gina,
i didnt say he was impatient, NOT ONCE, what i said was that he does not do the little things that help you win ball games, like advancing the runner or having a sac fly, not to mention he is NOT a good defensive player by any stretch of the imagination. unless they are going to ship delgado to the angels for pitching and then sign dunn to play 1st base id be alright with that. otherwise lets keep murph in left shift him to first next season and go with fmart next yr he will be ready, he's an absolute stud. remember he needs time to develop in the majors so bringing him up a little early isnt necessarily a bad thing.

And as much as I would love Dunn, he has been too available in the past for Minaya to have serious interest in him. He has been there for the taking, but Minaya never bit. I doubt that he will now.

Runs win games.
Dunn produces runs, whether it be scoring them from getting on base(wich would likely increase with RBI guys to drive him in unlike in Cinci) or whether he drives them in.
The only way I accept Abreu in our line-up is if we get Michael Young in the 6 or 7 spot.

Ok so based on your theory, Christian, Dunn would walk less and hit 98 HR's for the Mets. If he is getting more pitches to hit, he would .... hit more pitches.

I think it was the other way around - rumor is that Ibanez made it known he wanted to play in philly - the price was a bit too high if you ask me, but burrell was a gonner not long after the parade ended, and the outfield surplus was low, so the phillies bit.
