Links: Q&A with Rubin, Draft Picks, and Logos
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 6, 2009 10:52 am

Gary Armida of Full Count Pitch conducts a Q&A with Mets beat reporter Adam Rubin, which Rubin has posted to his blog for the Daily News.

As of now, the Mets will not have a single selection during the 41–pick first round of MLB’s Amateur Draft, which will take place during June, 2009, according to Jim Callis of Baseball America.

The Mets will lose additional picks if they sign free-agents Derek Lowe, Manny Ramirez or Orlando Hudson, but will gain a pick if Oliver Perez signs with a new team.

Yesterday, I wrote about the 2009 Citi Field Inaugural Patch.

Today, Brooklyn Met Fan gets in on the act, adding, “If Citigroup has succeeded in nothing else as Met sponsor, they’re officially dominating the World of Crappy Logos.”

lol, yeah whoopity-doo…guess we’re gonna be deprived of these scouting wizards awesome due diligence and miss out on the next Ike Davis…maybe if we’re lucky they’ll actually be forced to spend like a big market team in the draft, and spend out of slot for top talent that drops…lol, oh that’s right…they won’t even address immediate needs(MANNY), why would they be pressed to bother themselves with future ones?

    • Kherubconamor says:

and don’t tell me they had no inclination Davis would be a bust…I had launched a 6 week campaign prior to the draft stating what a bum Davis is, and how it’d be unacceptable to draft him on the Mets message board before I was banned….I also provided a list of the top 23 talents in the draft…Reese Havens was at the bottom of my list, but there were other guys still on it they should have selected…Personally I can’t believe they whiffed on Tyson Ross amongst many others…

      • Kherubconamor says:

I mean, Andrew Cashner was a glaring omission as well…especially considering the bullpen woes down the stretch…

I am not 100% positive but I think part of the reason that the patch has no reference to citifield may be a ban on corporate advertising on uniforms.

Still, it could be more creative than what they came up with but I’d rather have it be bland that overly decorative. For example, I never care for the World Series or Super Bowl patches that the teams wear during those games. They just seem out of place.

If Oliver Perez signs with a new team the Mets will get TWO picks.

fact checking isnt that hard guys…

    • Kherubconamor says:

I’d rather have my boy Ollie back….

Slow down and read carefully Nate……I believe what Matt was saying was that they would GAIN a pick if they sign one of the aforementioned FA’s AND Ollie signed on with another club.
Man….everyone is so quick to jump on Cerrone these days !

      • Nate W. says:

I see what you mean, but this is an often repeated pattern by Matt to openly not care to understand the way compensation works.

So it seems clear to me.

    Correction, Matt.

If Perez signs with another team, because of his Type A status, he will net the Mets two draft picks.

Either a 1st or 2nd Round Pick, depending on where the signing team drafts in the first round; and

    A Supplement Round Draft Pick.

  5. Kherubconamor says:

The Mets should get in on Carl Pavano…2 million, 1 year would secure him…he’s oh, about a THOUSAND Times better than Tim Redding, and has the added bonus of sticking it to the yankays if he does well…totally worth it….not a bad fifth option..get in on him before he signs with Cleveland.
