Links: F-Mart’s Swing, W, Predictions and Citi
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 7, 2009 11:42 am

Toby Hyde and Christopher Guy at Mets Minor League Blog post some video of Fernando Martinez and discuss his swing.

George W. Bush named Mets GM Omar Minaya to his Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, reports MLB.com.

In their humurous predictions for 2009, the Olypmian, a newspaper from Washington state, believes the Mets will defeat the Yankees in the World Series, while El Duque will be elected Cuban president.

In a post to Amazin Avenue, Eric Simon tries to determine whether Citi Field will be a pitcher’s park, while speaking with Greg Rybarczyk of The Hardball Times, who recently wrote, “Citi Field is poised to become MLB’s new Grand Canyon.”

      • Fcking Heilman says:

Or we can hide him in the stands selling WAAAAATER!!!!!!

      • darkstar73 says:

hudson batting 3rd? Have you been watching mlb for the past couple of seasons?

        • Nate W. says:

its a mistake since there are nine position players listed. I figure the first Hudson is a mistake.

would we really bat Wright ahead of Manny?

          • therealsince86 says:

Most likely, as suming this make believe never going to happen senerio it would be
            Reyes
            Beltran
            Wright
            Manny
            Delgado
            Church
            Hudson
            Schnieder

  2. CaseStreet says:

Why does W. have a council? Will it get transferred to Obama?

  3. alex242 says:

The Yankees edge the Red Sox as Sabathia wins his 28th game. The Rangers finish third and fire Cheney.

The Mets edge the Yankees in the World Series.

    WOW!!!

guys, read that article is pretty funny some of the things it says..

  4. Willie Randolph says:

My sources told me right now that Matt just send an apology e mail to VCarver.

  5. Willie Randolph says:

    I have a ?

What happend with the “rule” of the “just 2 type A” free agents?

  6. ihob419 says:

In terms of the pitchers park article. I have been saying for quite some time that it will be a better pitcher’s park than shea, but nobody seems to take note that Citi Field is turned towards the water more than Shea was. If I’m not mistaken, the wind normally blew from left to right at Shea?

In that case the outfield fences have been moved more towards the wind thus making home run balls fall down more than they did in the early and late parts of the years as they did in Shea. Does anybody agree with me? Am I completely wrong?

    • Nate W. says:

At times the wind seemed to be coming in directly from left. Piazza can tell you how many homers he lost to that wind…

The wind would seem be variable factor that we will only really know in a few years. But I agree, it will be a defensive help more than offensive.

I look forward to seeing Reyes, Wright, Beltran, and FM legging out triples for many years.

  7. oleosmirf says:

Luis Castillo is our 2B going into ST. The Wilpons are not going to pay him to leave considering there is no cheap alternative solution.

  8. dominicanboy08 says:

I dont get why the wilpons dont want manny, I mean the guy will pay for himself. The stadium will be sold out everyday and all the manny merchandise will be sold. I’m just hoping the mets surprise us with his signing.

    • alex242 says:

here’s the thing, i love to have him, but based on what he did with boston if he gets sign here they’d be afraid that he might not care anymore and stop hustling coz of his guarantee game..

      • therealsince86 says:

Who the hell knows with Manny. IF you give him the long contract he may not play hard because he does not have to. IF you don’t give him the long contract then he may not play hard so he can be traded somewhere else because he is unhappy with his contract.

        • oleosmirf says:

i highly doubt Manny wont try b/c he didnt get the contract he wanted. Seriously the guy has more money than he knows what to do with

He wanted out of Boston not b/c he thought he deserved a raise but b/c he got tired of living there 8 years was enough.

Would I give Manny 3+ years no, but 2 years 55 mil is not unreasonable considering he’s STILL the most dominant and feared hitter in baseball and has shown 0 signs of slowing down

          • Kherubconamor says:

I’d give Manny 2 guaranteed with a team third year option, player fourth year option, team option fifth year.

        • Nate W. says:

          seems simple to me…

known: Manny will not play hard
variable: why Manny will not play hard

      • dominicanboy08 says:

klok, I understand what you are saying, but the guy still had good seasons even without trying and I think he will be happy here in New York specially with jerry manuel.

  9. Kherubconamor says:

Eddie Kunz is getting a bad wrap, and not nearly enough credit for the player he’ll eventually become. He’s gonna be a force, and I think it’s unfair that he’s getting a mid-tier talent tag placed on him….He just needs a little extra time, but he’s gonna be nasty when he gets it all together.

    • oleosmirf says:

then he better go out there and prove how good he really is in ST.

There are 1 maybe 2 spots in the rotation up for grabs…

      • Kherubconamor says:

He’s a reliever, I don’t think he’ll make the big club out of Spring Training, but I do think he’ll be available to contribute at the end of the year if need be. Although I don’t think his full potential will be realized for at least another 2 years.

  10. jamie says:

The Citi field article was a great read…got me pumped even more for 09.

Matt, maybe you should have a weekly “My First Time” post throughout the season, so we can get a collective view of the experience (and can give those who can’t make the games a better idea). Things like where the wind was early in the year as opposed to later, where the sun is in the summer, where are the biggest/cheapest beers, etc. I think a lot of people would enjoy that (and having it in a weekly post makes it easier to find). Just a thought.

  11. Peter says:

Based on those dimensions, maybe an out of the box move for someone like Baldelli or Crawford, even maybe Podsednik, is planned. Play the park, kinda like the old Cardinals.

  12. bucknersankles says:

I THINK THE WILPON’S ARE MORE AFRAID OF MANNY (B/C OF BOSTON FIASCO ) THAN IT JUST BEING THAT THEY DON’T WANT HIM, THAT SAID, THEY ARE MAKING A MISTAKE TO BELIEVE THAT WITH THE LIKES OF DELGADO, BELTRAN,SANTANA, WRIGHT,REYES, K-ROD AND PUTZ ( MAN, THAT SOUNDS WICKED ON PAPER ) THAT SOMEHOW MANNY IS NOT GOING TO MESH.
NOT ONLY IS MANNY GOING TO MESH WITH THIS CREW BUT HE IS GOING TO MASH, SIMPLY PUT, WE WILL HAVE ONE OF THE MOST DEVASTATING LINEUPS IN BASEBALL HISTORY.
MANRAM WILL KNOW FROM THE OUTSET WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH AND HE IS GOING TO GET ON BOARD TO CONTRIBUTE TOWARD THAT END.

    • Kherubconamor says:

Do you think they don’t know that? They know, they’re not stupid people. You don’t get that rich being stupid. You get that rich by cohort-ing and or being stingy. Either the game is fixed, or they’re being cheap…maybe both….but it doesn’t look like what should be done, will be done.

  13. bkfitz says:

I have a feeling F-Mart’s nickname will be K-Mart shortly after he comes up.

  14. Krodamet says:

    yeah nice prediction
