    • alex242 says:

they play the dodgers so yeah you can see him.. lol.. jk

      • nostradamus says:

bro, if the mets go into 2009 with the current lineup plus say some so-so OF (abreau, dunn), the mets will not win the NL east. with manny, the mets go to the promised land…..once the mets get over the shock of having a pure clutch productive cleanup hitter on the team who KNOWS how to collect rings.

        • alex242 says:

lol, well, u never know, this morning on the radio i heard something very true, bringin manny doesn’t guarantee us the world series, but i tell you, he’s a monster and i’d love to have him.. but wasn’t ffavre the missing piece for the jets?? how that worked out??

you never know man.. nevr know..

        • MetLifer says:

This is pretty much the same lineup as last year that was 2nd.. correct me if I’m wrong.. in runs scored. Without the bullpen meltdowns we would have made the playoffs.

          • smockk says:

Yeah, we scored as many runs as the phillies, which means a lot since los mets played their home games in Shea, a pitchers park, and they played in the bandbox of CBP.

so when can we expect the Mets’ WBC players to come back from the DL?

  3. sabermetrician says:

I got butterflies at the thought of baseball starting up.

  4. Dirtysanchez says:

I really got to try and make it down this year….

    • sabermetrician says:

I’ve been down once. It’s such an amazing atmosphere. I actually preferred AZ though. All the spring training facilities are so close there you can just hop place to place…so much fun.

  5. sabermetrician says:

    Nostradamus —
We all know that you’ve pushed hard for Manny. Most of us don’t think it’s possible any longer, even though we’d like him to be here. Deep down do you really think it can still happen? Here’s to hope.

    • nostradamus says:

i do think so. why? omar KNOWS manny is key. wilpons make wake up and smell the coffee. plus it is looking like a perfect storm to bring manny here.

      • bill metsiac says:

Like it or not, the Mets have a budget, and based on reports I’ve read there’s about $25-30 mil left this year.

Do you want Manny at $25 mil, plus Niese and Redding in the rotation, and no Murphy (where would he play?), or Lowe and Perez/Wolf in the rotation and Murphy/Tatis in LF (with F-Mart due within a year)?

I’d have more fun if the Yankees sign Manny, so I can read about him and Girardi going at it!

  6. alex242 says:

Nostradamus got a man crush on manny.. hopefully his turns out ok.. mine and case dis-sapoint us with tex.. ;-(

  7. SPINK3 says:

Posted this on last thread but after seeing nostradomus idiotic posts over and over about manny this manny that i thought id post it here as well

Lets just say we sign Lowe and Redding. Not the ultimate SP pickups but very solid nontheless. Put our starting rotation to that of the world champ phils and I would take ours over theres anyday of the week. We will have a top 5 rotation with Lowe and Redding and I cant understand why so many idiots on this site think we need every free agent to win. Yes it would be awesome if we got CC, TEX,Manny etc and had an all star team but it just not possible. We got some greedy people on this site who know nothing about how business/baseball works. MANNY will not win us a championship automatically.. will he make us better? obviously..Do we all want him? YES..we want everybody good on our team but there are 30 other teams thats want the same players and spending all the money we have doesnt equate to wins (ex:YANKESS, another ex: BONDS) One player will not win a championship

    • nostradamus says:

bro, we need a righty LF productive cleanup hitter, who is REFRESHINGLY clutch. hmmmmm…….

    • alex242 says:

you make very good points, but i don’t think is fair nor u are in ur rights to call anybody in this site idiot, but here’s the thing, one player doesn’t win u a champinship is true, but to be honest, a player like manny in our team will make us not only a playoffs contender but a championship contender.. that’s the difference why so many ppl here want him.. plus nobody knows for sure whether we can get him or not.. he still IS a free agent u know..

      • SPINK3 says:

never called anybody an idiot, just idiotic comments..there are a lot of em..it doesnt help when people make those comments..obviously I want manny just as much as the next person..but if we sign him it might cost us in the future for signing a superstar thats 25 in his prime for multiple yrs and not just 3 yrs of manny when he knows he just got his last contract and has no need to play hard

        • nostradamus says:

          win NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • SPINK3 says:

people need to realize this is a business first and foremost. The wilpons have real jobs, owning the mets is there hobby. I know its crazy to average people like myself, but at least im smart enough to realize that they can do whatever they want with there hobby. Its a dam expensive hobby but its theres to do what they please..All I know for sure is that we won 89 games last yr and if we sign Lowe we are defintely better then last yrs team, and nobody in our division has done anything to better themselves. All manny would be is icing on the cake, but as of now it just doesnt seem like a smart investment for the future. But this is just my opinion so what do I know

          • therealsince86 says:

I would not say the other teams have done nothing. We for sure have done more. However we were close to winning with what we had last year but you guys are forgeting we do not currently have what we did last year. We have a better pen but only 3 starters and one of those is coming off injury.

        • alex242 says:

“I cant understand why so many idiots on this site think we need every free agent to win”

          read your comment spink3..

          • SPINK3 says:

i was referring to a lot of posters not just nostradamus..I do feel there comments are idiotic and not justified in any sense..its like they dont realize its a business, one player will not win a championship, pitching is all we need, and most importantly were not going to spend $400 million like the yankees whether they like it or not. Once people realize all of these things, they will become knowledgable about baseball and not just post things we already know

      • therealsince86 says:

If the Mets did not have a budget, Manny would be perfect. However, like it or not they do. We can’t get 2 top SP and Manny. You may think we should but we won’t thus we can’t.
So you have to reason things out. Do you go with Redding and another scrub so you clear room for Manny?
Lets say Manny cost 23 million that’s already what the Mets intended to spend the rest of the offseason. So they stretch it a LITTLE and sign Redding and then go with what Niese? That would cost about 27 million.

For 27 million you could most likely sign Perez and Lowe. Which one do you want?

        • nostradamus says:

no brainer. manny. if wilpons ignore the bats, it will be a second-third place finish. period. hear me now, believe me in october.

          • therealsince86 says:

That is not clear at all Nostra. I could see either point but to make it seem so clear cut is small minded.
            A rotation of
Johan, Pelfrey, Maine, Redding and Niese for sure is a VERY weak rotation.

          • Willie Randolph says:

We need Lowe and for me Redding is perfect to push Niese ,we can go with the same lineup and if we need an offensive upgrade in the middle of the season we can make a trade at the deadline (Holliday).

        • alex242 says:

          both!!!

          • therealsince86 says:

I hate to do this Alex, WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET MANNY AND 2 TOP SP. You may not like it and think that we should but it’s not going to happen. So if you are Omar you have to decide on one of those 2 routes. You are not even going to get Perez and Manny. It’s junk for SP and upgrade the offense or nothing for offense and upgrade the rotation or average upgrades for both.
This is not a video game.

  8. Nightlife says:

Oh man, I’m already getting antsy. Life can return to some sense of normalcy once spring rolls around.

  9. nostradamus says:

bros, it’s not last year’s lineup plus 2 top SPs….it is an older slumpilicious delgado and the same uppercut swing wright and statue beltran…and dizzy church. reyes will be great. but it is NOT enough firepower…no way. last year was full of weak grounder DPs, popups and 1-2-3 and outs….no late inning clutchiness. manny improves everything….and his defense is underrated.
