I would have rather had him than Castillo last year to begin with. Eckstein would be perfect for us, providing leadership and a backup shortstop if (gulp) anything ever happened to Reyes. Cora is a career backup, and I would not feel comfortable with him playing extended starting time if he needed to. But if he is being offered a starting job elsewhere, then I cannot see Eck coming here. Turthfully, I have always like Counsel too, but I would not be too mad if Omar picked Cora over him.
