Starting Pitcher: Mets still Leaders for Lowe

by Matthew Cerrone on January 8th, 2009 at 7:17 pm

Update, 7:50 pm:

Interestingly, during tonight’s Hot Stove show on the MLB Network, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said, while Omar Minaya prefers Oliver Perez to Lowe, some in the team’s front-office prefer Lowe, because he is a ground-ball pitcher – this is important because when David Wright and others took batting practice in Citi Field last September, the new stadium played as a hitter’s park.

Original Post:

Tonight on SNY’s Mets Hot Stove Report, FoxSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal said he still believes the Mets are the front-runners to sign free-agent RHP Derek Lowe, despite the pitcher’s meeting with the Braves today.

Rosenthal said, “From what I understand, the Braves are not interested in going beyond the three-year, $36 million offer from the Mets… I still don’t see the Braves going where Scott Boras will want them to go.”

In the end, does not see how it is possible the Mets lose out on both Lowe and free-agent LHP Oliver Perez.

By the way, Rosenthal says, at this point, he is unable to find a GM who is interested in Perez, outside of Omar Minaya.

hey, Scott Boras, i’m in the middle of a ridiculous negotiation to buy a home – can you help get me what i want… thanks
