eMailbag: Lineup, Home Opener, Manny, Video
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 9, 2009 1:55 pm

Last night, I took part in a one-hour, live chat with The Happy Recap, a lively Mets message-board community.

To read a full transcript of the chat, which included questions on Manny Ramirez, Luis Castillo, Derek Lowe, Citi Field, and lots of other topics, click here.

Note: the questions to me are in blue, and my answers are in orange.

The following is a quick sample from the chat, including a two questions that I often get e-mailed to me here at MetsBlog:

THR: Do You Think the Mets will make a play for Nady?

Cerrone: Ahh, the inevitable Nady-wing of the Rumor Mill – how I’ve missed you. He and the Mets have been connected ever since they traded him to the Pirates.  Minaya has always liked him.  I would not be surprised to hear he is checking in on him, but I’m always doubtful when it comes to potential hook-ups between the Mets and Yankees because they just never seem to happen.

THR: What are your favorite Mets blogs?

Cerrone: I enjoy Hot Foot, Amazin Avenue, Joe Janish, Brooklyn Met Fan, Shea Fever, Metsmerized, Mets Police, and probably a bunch I am not thinking of right now.

By the way, to watch my latest MetsBlog Mailbag for SNY, during which I talk about Andy Pettitte and Orlando Hudson, click play:

redding is a good addition for less than 3 million, I mean scho was getting 3+ million last year. now lets get lowe.

  2. Agees Catch says:

Can SNY afford a hair stylist?

  3. oleosmirf says:

    Lowe
    Manny
    Redding
    Eckstein

sign all 4 guys and that is a championship caliber team right there…

Is Eckstein supposed to be the guy who “changes the culture of the team”, and if so, how many Eckstein’s will it take to do so if the Mets were to sign manny?

  4. mrose says:

wouldn’t Nady be our left fielder since he played that w/ the Yankees, and keep Church in right?

  5. keep it posi says:

I think Nady and Hudson would both be perfect fits for the Mets. It is unfortunate that the current conditions are making it unlikely to see either in Mets uniforms.

Matt, I really don’t agree with when you say things like the Mets should cut Castillo to sign Hudson or pay Manny $25 m a year. I hate the way the Yankees spend money and am already a little uneasy with the Mets’ payroll as it is. The Wilpons have given Omar a specific budget, one that ensures the Mets baseball operations will make money next year. The Yankees cannot say that. Think about how important the team being financially prudent is in light of Sterling being taken for $300 m by Bernie Madoff. I really like what you do but I hope you will be more cautious in advocating budget recklessness.

  7. Agees Catch says:

Redding is a #5 starter on a good team. He is exactly what we need.

  8. udontmesswiththejohan says:

Relax dude, if the deal goes through, he’s going to be a 5th starter. It’s not as though theya re signing Redding in place of Lowe. All along Omar has said that he wanted to bring in a veteran SP to compete for the fifth spot in the rotation. Well, that is what is going on here. You can’t expect every guy in your rotation to bring what say Johan, Lowe, or even a Pelfrey (never thought I would be saying that 2 years ago), or Maine bring to the table. Now that I think about it, if they are able to get the Lowe deal done, that’s a pretty nice rotation.
