Matt, I really don't agree with when you say things like the Mets should cut Castillo to sign Hudson or pay Manny $25 m a year. I hate the way the Yankees spend money and am already a little uneasy with the Mets' payroll as it is. The Wilpons have given Omar a specific budget, one that ensures the Mets baseball operations will make money next year. The Yankees cannot say that. Think about how important the team being financially prudent is in light of Sterling being taken for $300 m by Bernie Madoff. I really like what you do but I hope you will be more cautious in advocating budget recklessness.

I think Nady and Hudson would both be perfect fits for the Mets. It is unfortunate that the current conditions are making it unlikely to see either in Mets uniforms.

Is Eckstein supposed to be the guy who "changes the culture of the team", and if so, how many Eckstein's will it take to do so if the Mets were to sign manny?

Relax dude, if the deal goes through, he's going to be a 5th starter. It's not as though theya re signing Redding in place of Lowe. All along Omar has said that he wanted to bring in a veteran SP to compete for the fifth spot in the rotation. Well, that is what is going on here. You can't expect every guy in your rotation to bring what say Johan, Lowe, or even a Pelfrey (never thought I would be saying that 2 years ago), or Maine bring to the table. Now that I think about it, if they are able to get the Lowe deal done, that's a pretty nice rotation.

Redding is a #5 starter on a good team. He is exactly what we need.
