On Saturday, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes wrote, “Pedro Martinez and the Florida Marlins are believed to be in the beginning stages of negotiating a contract and could meet next week,” according to a source.

However, yesterday, the Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel both say the Marlins are not interested, with the Herald suggesting Martinez may have contacted them, because they were his ‘first choice.’

“Martinez could still be an option for the Mets, though the addition of Tim Redding could present an obstacle,” writes Anthony McCarron in the Daily News.

…i believe martinez will wait until the top free agents sign, and then hope to sign a guaranteed deal…but, to expect him to jump at a minor-league contract, at least right now, is crazy…though, he may eventually need to consider such options…

Last week, the New York Post reported Martinez’s agent and Omar Minaya would be speaking this week.
