Relief Pitcher: Mets interested in Dennys Reyes
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 12, 2009 12:52 pm

The Mets and A’s are among teams interested in free-agent LHP Dennys Reyes, according to Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com.

On Wednesday, Jayson Stark of ESPN.com said the Dodgers recently made an offer to Reyes, though he did not list terms of the deal.

In December, Reyes, 31, declined salary arbitration, through which he would likely have been rewarded a $4 million salary to remain with the Twins.

…the buzz from Minnesota is that reyes had been seeking a three-year, $12 million deal, but could be forced to accept a two-year, $8 million offer, much like Jeremy Affeldt signed

In 75 relief appearances for the Twins last season, Reyes had a 2.33 ERA through 46 innings, during which opponents hit .235 against him and struck out 39 times.

He had a 3.99 ERA in 2007, but a whopping 0.89 ERA in 66 games during 2006 for Minnesota.

    new blood… keep it coming

  4. bkfitz says:

I hope we sign him and he wears 36. I need to get some mileage out of my Al Reyes jersey.

Let’s see how many Reyes-es we can have on the roster. I’m down.

  6. Keep the all Reyes triple play alive!

    Hey delee…

Why don’t you go look up the word “sarcasm” while you’re at it. Might save you some time in making completely unnecessary condescending posts.

What is it with some guys on this site who feel they immediately have to “correct” anything that’s posted? Geez…lighten up.

  8. This would be a great pickup!! SIGN HIM, especially for only 2 years. P Feliciano just isn’t as effective as before…and we need another new face in the BP.

Our starting pitching was not the cause of the Mets downfall last year, it was pretty much all on the bullpen. Screw Boras..and Lowe/Perez. I’d love to see the Mets sign any two between Wolf/Garland/Sheets…and tell Boras to pound sand.

The Mets SHOULD NOT guarantee a 4th year for Lowe or Perez, and they have other options regarding starters. Games are won or lost more with the pen during the season, and those games are the ones that come back to bite you in September… GO METS!!!

  9. VCarver says:

2 years max on this guy. In 11 years and multiple teams he’s only pitched well with one team — the Twins the last few years.

I don’t want to see a repeat of Schoeneweis.

  10. therealsince86 says:

Not worth it. The guy is a LOOGY. I don’t want anymore OOGY’s. If you are obsessed with a LH then get Guardado. At least he can pitch to RH’s.
Anything more than 2 million for 1 year would be a joke.

  11. therealsince86 says:

    4.28 1.56…..
Career ERA and WHIP. Stay away.

  12. Genesis Does says:

Reyes, Ohman or Everyday Eddie. We need one of these guys. Id love Eddie, reunite him with Putz (and maybe he will teach Maine a splitter too, Maine really needs an out pitch, and his fastball rises like Schilling’s)

Knowing Omar, no lefty will be signed, and Feliciano will get hurt and we’ll all look back and wonder how a lefty heavy team like the Mets ended up with one lefty pitcher on the 25 man roster.

    • fongulalou says:

While we dont really NEED another lefty RP,
if either he or everyday eddie is signed,
MUST only be for a year.

Delgado talking sh—….?? He should be outa here.. I agree with the upgrade, but I’m sooo sick of Delgado and his attitude/arrognace.. Ship out that 12 million and get Manny!!

  14. youthmovement says:

Well, if we cannot get Lowe and we end up with Ollie, it might be a good idea to sign Reyes and get all the help in the BP we can due to Ollie’s track record of not getting out the 6th.

  15. Tommy2cat says:

Dennys Reyes would be a nice fit for the Mets bullpen.

Righties: F-Rod, Putz, Stokes, Kunz, Sanchez

    Lefties: Feliciano, Reyes

Rotation: Santana, Pelfrey, Maine (Lowe/Ollie) Redding

Extra: Niese, Parnell, Figueroa, Gee, etc…

Best part of pitching roster above is that beyond Duaner and Maine, no health risks and no age issues. Duaner should be stronger, one year removed from his comeback. Maine should be fine because the surgery did not affect any muscles or tendons directly. In fact, he should be even better - I had the same surgery.

If we can secure Reyes and either Lowe or Ollie, then its time to address second base either by trading for Young or signing Orlando Hudson. I’d also like Omar to get Nady back.

  16. oleosmirf says:

he’d be a good singing although i wouldnt be suprised if he didnt perform well in NY…

  17. TheresAlwaysNextYear says:

So the Mets conquest to own every major league baseball player whose name is Reyes continues.

  18. keep it posi says:

SIGN HIM! We need another LHRP and I don’t have much faith in Feliciano.

  19. m29w_12789 says:

Felicano should be traded as well. He can sing light my fire and Feliz navidad and thats about it. Seriously, After last year, he is a liability.
