Okay- is everyone on here JUST SO MUCH MORE TALENTED and SO MUCH MORE BRILLIANT than Matt ? I mean….seriously- he’s not the Daily News, SI, NY Times (insert any sports page)….this is a BLOG…a collection of original content which is great and a gateway to other people’s stories…journalists’ stories….If he DIDN’T POST THIS AT ALL…everyone would be complaining that he won’t post blah blah blah…

I’m so over negative, nasty folks on here…I understand, we’re all used to using our venom on AFH! or others in the bullpen…and now, we have LESS to complain about….but still….

Gina, Thereal, and darkstar-

You all make solid points on Fmart.

I just want to say I believe our main objective is to win a W.S. in 2009 and to do this we need someone in LF that can contribute this year.

Fmart is probably not ready to help us meet that objective this year. This doesn’t mean we should turn around and trade him.

It means we plan for 2009 but also keep an eye on the future.

Since one doesn’t know what the future may bring we constantly have to weigh the costs of what to do if we can improve the team to win now at the price of hurting the future.

Fmart is not a poker chip because a poker chip always has the same value he is more like a stock option. He has value today with potential to split I believe is the word so we don’t wanna just get rid of him but you also have to watch the market and no when to trade before you lose the return on your investment.

Sorry for the analogy.

I don’t envy Minaya one bit.

Note that I don’t mean that all Metsblog readers are dumb, just that as you get more readers, your sample becomes more representative of the general population, which includes dumb people. The SABR-oriented blogs that have more sophisticated content and less readership will obviously have a more informed audience. When you get to Tom Tango, I have to work a bit to get his arguments.
