3810970Tom Kaminski in Chopper 880 has new aerial photos of the Shea Stadium on WCBS880.com.

you know, they should leave that one remaining section of Shea, just the wall, as a piece of art work in the parking lot… i think that’d be pretty cool

By the way, just a reminder…

On Saturday, tomorrow, January 31, at 12:00 pm, a group of Mets fans are organizing a final farewell at Shea Stadium, ‘to share stories and take photographs of what is left of the ballpark… This is not for a funeral, but a celebration.’

According to an e-mail from one the event’s organizers, the group will be meeting on the north side of the demolition site near Gate A, or what is left of Gate A.

If you’re on Facebook, and plan on attending, you can get more details by clicking here.

Anyone see the article in Newsday about Congress wanted Citibank to pull out of the Citifield deal?

Matthew Cerrone January 30, 2009 at 9:47 am

Yes, and I’ll have it in the Links post set for around 11:30 am.

BIG17EASY January 30, 2009 at 9:45 am

Leaving that portion of the wall would be idiotic. It would cost tons of money to maintain it, not to mention insurance liabilities. Plus the vandalism that would occur. It makes no sense.

Flushing_is_Burning January 30, 2009 at 10:28 am

Mr. Wilpon, take down that wall!?!?

mikey_FF January 30, 2009 at 10:36 am

I think leaving the wall is a good idea. Fans can jump off when the Mets choke games away. =)

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 10:52 am

LMAO!!

m29w_12789 January 30, 2009 at 9:59 am

They really should outline where Homeplate was and the infield in red when they put the white stripes down for the parking lot. A statue to Seaver or some art work about the 69 and 86 mets should be present also

metfansince65 January 30, 2009 at 10:58 am

That is going to happen. Wheelchair leagues will be using the outlined field for their games.

nym57 January 30, 2009 at 10:07 am

It would be a cool idea, unfortunately it won’t happen.

I did hear that they are outlining or painting where homeplate/1b/2b/3b/ and the pitcher mound was.

wallaroundtheworld January 30, 2009 at 10:13 am

Shea as a peice of art work? you’re losing it man :)

Savage January 30, 2009 at 10:16 am

Watching Shea Stadium crumble down piece by piece, day by day in January, is like watching the Mets in September. Every day that goes by is so painful to watch. You hold out hope that some way, something will be left in February (or October) but you just know there will be nothing left.

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 10:34 am

Uh… ookaayy…

DallasMetsFan January 30, 2009 at 10:27 am

I took one of the greatest dumps of my life in a stool at Shea Stadium….(sob) I’m going to miss you Shea.

mikey_FF January 30, 2009 at 10:37 am

They say the bathrooms at Citifield are state of the art though…

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 10:42 am

lol, it won’t be after dallas mets goes in there.. man, not for nothing, but i justcouldn’t take a dump at a stadium… lol.. more power to you man.. for real..

NYMETSFAN718 January 30, 2009 at 10:44 am

After a few hot dogs, some nachos, and some peanuts, you might not have a choice.

DallasMetsFan January 30, 2009 at 10:47 am

and dont forget the ice cream in the hat cup, the sprinkles did it for me. I have an idea. When you flush the toilets at Citi a sound of Gary Cohen saying “And its Outta Here” should play. That would be state of the art.

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 10:53 am

LOL, nah, i eat on my way there. the food is also too expensive, my wife and daughter go crazy but not me.. specially thos host dogs.. they’re good but i know what will happen an hour later..

mikey_FF January 30, 2009 at 10:57 am

DallasMetsFan … “and it’s outta here!”

That is HILARIOUS!!!

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 11:00 am

Lol, man.. this is a boring day we’re talking about dumps and all that..

foul bunt strikeout January 30, 2009 at 10:46 am

i once “went for the two point conversion” in shea stadium subway stop bathroom.

i triple lined the john and went to work…it was one of those dumps that had to be done ASAP or else

DallasMetsFan January 30, 2009 at 10:51 am

you dont have to say anymore. Sounds like the one that can cause 3rd degree burns on your bung-hole.

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 10:57 am

LMAO…

you guys are f****** crazy!!

mouserdz January 30, 2009 at 11:13 am

what’s a “two point conversion” is that when you vomit and dump at the same time?

foul bunt strikeout January 30, 2009 at 11:20 am

two point conversion is just another term for droppin a deuce

imodium does the trick for you?

mouserdz January 30, 2009 at 11:44 am

Yep, clogs me up until I’m home

DallasMetsFan January 30, 2009 at 11:02 am

Sorry guys…LMAO…didnt know what I started.

NYMETSFAN718 January 30, 2009 at 11:04 am

Wonder what Matt is thinking after reading all this?

DallasMetsFan January 30, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Let me elaborate on my special moment…it must of been a critical time in the game and Piazza had to be up at the plate cause when I was at the stool and my turd finally drop the crowd went wild, it was one of the proudest days of my life. I went to the restroom with the Mets down by 2 and came back to a Mets 1 run lead and I believe it was thanks to my blessings.

mouserdz January 30, 2009 at 11:11 am

You guys are a bunch of amatuers, you need to take some Imodium before everygame!

alex.422 January 30, 2009 at 11:17 am

imodium?

hmm.. is that to make ppl not have fun like you..

mouserdz January 30, 2009 at 11:46 am

Are you implying that taking a dump at Shea is fun? It’s the imodium that keeps me out of having to set up a nest in the stall.

Ollie Ollie Perez Free! January 30, 2009 at 11:20 am

Leaving a portion of the wall would be nice… It’s cool to see a portion of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium in the green parking lot (if I’m not mistaken) of Turner Field…

foul bunt strikeout January 30, 2009 at 11:22 am

I’ll top all of your deuece stories…

my bro dropped a D in a penn st parking garage.

it was after a road trip and he was too far away from his apt to drop it there

I laugh until it hurts when he tells me that story

fongulalou January 30, 2009 at 11:48 am

Sign Manny!!!

shea guest broadcaster January 30, 2009 at 5:14 pm

Should have kept Shea, and instead given us a better team to play in it; a team with heart, a team that plays like the Phils, instead of a team that worries more about what new dances it can come up with to show up other teams than winning; and I’d have voted to keep Shea in exchange for a more pro-active GM and ownership that has a clue!

I’d have rather have had those things instead of seeing the same chokers move into a field that the taxpayers will support after bailing out the company that has its name all over that unnecessary new park.

Oh, and Jackie Robinson has NOTHING to do with the Mets! Jackie was great, but let the Dodgers build something in honor of him! Why is that new rotunda not the Shea Rotunda?!?!?

Thanks for all of the great memories, Shea! Sorry we sent you out with such a weak-hearted excuse for a team. You deserved SO much better!

DallasMetsFan January 31, 2009 at 9:28 am

you’re an idiot and an undercover bigot. Dodgers and Giants is the reason there is our beloved Mets. And Jackie is one of the reason this game is as beautiful as it is.

MikePiazza31 January 30, 2009 at 6:11 pm

hey matt, are you gonna put up a slide show showing the whole process of the shea demolition from start to finish. i think it would be cool to see the whole thing at once…
