This morning on WFAN, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said, so far, only the Dodgers and Giants have admitted to having interest in free-agent OF Manny Ramirez.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Giants, and maybe the Nationals, might be left to pursue Ramirez, as the Dodgers could look to sign Orlando Hudson, Randy Wolf and Adam Dunn instead.
Rosenthal believes Ramirez may be left with no choice but to accept a two-year, $36 million offer from the Giants, though, “Such a deal would make him miserable, perhaps as miserable as he was in his final days in Boston.”
Heyman said, regarding the Mets, ‘I don’t like to say anything is 100 percent, but there is no evidence that I can find that they’re gonna be going after Manny Ramirez… I’ll say two or three percent at best (they sign him), there is just no evidence, zero evidence, though I never like to rule anything out.”
Heyman believes that if Ramirez had similar offers from the Mets and other teams, he’d probably favor the Mets.
By the way, the same group of fans who took part in last week’s Million Manny March at the SNY studios are planning a second March for Thursday, Feb. 5, again at the SNY studios, during the show’s Mets Hot Stove show, which airs at 7 pm EDT.
The SNY studio is located at 51st and Sixth Ave., though some fans will be gathering across the street at 6:30 pm by Radio City., before marching
over the to studio in time for the Hot Stove show.
The group’s organizers simply say, ‘Bring signs, wear Mets gear, and Go Wild.”
Nevertheless, Heyman still believes Ramirez will sign with the Dodgers.
…if the Mets do not at least ask Scott Boras what it would take to get ramirez, they’re crazy… i’m not saying they should or have to go overboard and do whatever is needed to get him, but they have to ask, because this is all playing out right in from of them…
To listen to Heyman’s entire interview, go to WFAN.com.

it would be so sad if we can’t afford to match 2 years 36 million.
Great. This is going to open the floodgates of morons…
People are morons b/c they want Manny?
No. Because they are going to demand that the Mets sign him for two years and $36m, regardless of how unlikely that is to happen and regardless of how miserable that would make him. The last thing they want is a miserable Manny (I will again refer to the Sep. 28, 2008 LA Times article on Manny and his comments about playing in a baseball obsessed city).
Or they’ll demand the Mets sign Manny for 3 years/$60M+, not realizing/caring that he will be a virtual DH on an NL team by the third year of the contract and no one will trade for his $20M contract.
we sign a 44 year to play left field who was always injure, even at 39 manny is better than anything we throw out there..
Two points young padwan -
1) Moises was 42 last year
2) More importantly, his contract was $8M. If the Mets can sign Manny for 3 years at $8M per, I’d be all for it.
what are you talking about you cant even compare the production of the 2 players. one is always hurt so he made 8mil from home. manny would make his money at the batters box. he was horrible in the field in boston 2. but when he came to the plate his best defense was his offense
Manny will not be worth $20M to an NL team in the third year of his contract and he will be untradeable. That was my point.
If you had an issue with the Mets spending $8M on Alou last year, just wait until they spend $20M on a disgruntled DH in 2011.
they should have waited for the first one now..obviously we didnt know how it would ply out like this though…maybe they will listen…and maybe there will be more than 30 people..lol
1 year 20 millions incentives to bring to 25million and option triggers for a 26 million dollar option for 2010 and 27 million for 2011. Also included should be behavioral clauses.
If he fails to reach said options it can become a player option at 10 million dollars.
Get it done
1) NO MANNY. I can’t imagine a worse influence in the clubhouse or dugout than Manny. Doesn’t make any sense. When we work its because we’ve got chemistry going, not because of a big piece of lumber. That’s never been the Mets and I for one don’t want that to change. No Manny.
2) Relatedly, there’s no point to making a move just to make a move. The only other move worth considering is Sheets and its not looking like its going to happen and that’s okay because…
3) If you take the numbers from Jerry’s part of last season and extrapolate them back into the Willie part of the season, we take the division easy. We got rid of a lot of liabilities and kept the core that Jerry’s comfortable with and has already done great things with. That’s something to be excited about, even if its not all that “new.”
4) Don’t get down on Ollie. If Warthen gets him to focus and stick with that yoga-bow delivery we’re all set. Maybe with three years of security he’ll settle down. Johan, a maturing Pelfrey, a maturing Maine and a focused Ollie is a hell of a core even with a question mark at 5.
5) Screw Citibank – rename it Taxpayer Park.
6) Let’s Go Mets!
Dude influence is overated. What is this High School. We are talking about ball players. That want to play well so that when there freeagent years come they could make money. so your saying that manny would make jose reyes play bad. Please lets grow up.
Mets fan living in Boston the last 3.5 years…. As you may know, the sox coverage is beyond extensive here with the NESN network, and the reaction to the manny trade was documented ad nauseum. All I know is after the sox traded manny, EVERY single player said he needed to go. Nobody mourned his loss, not even papi. This is during the season following their WS win, so they knew what they were losing in his production. Yet, not a single one of his teammates showed the slightest remorse for his departure. That’s gotta tell you something. The players that know him best and deal with him on a day-to-day basis don’t want him around at all once he’s unhappy (despite his offensive potential), and coming back to a baseball-obsessed city would be unlikely to make a happy manny.
i still believe the mets are going to get him…it wouldnt surprise me…this is falling in front of omar…this is what he talked about
The Mets are idiots if they believe anyone else wanted an erratic pitcher that led the league in wals, is below .500 for his career, has the higehst fly ball ratio of anyone and has concentration issues. The paid him like a #2 starter and he is at best a #4 and more likely a #4.
Number 2 starter? Name a #2 starter that was a FA and signed for 3/36? Carlos Silva got 4/48. Seriously. This is market value for a #4.
Lowe and Burnett are #2s (arguably) who got paid much more than Ollie in years and annual salary.
I agree that this deal is more in line with a 3-4 pitcher in free agency.
Million Man Manny March. HA LOL. How about about the Dirty Dozen Manny March?
lol..yeah…that sounds more right
Lol, it was like 35 ppl there, how is it a million march..
Hahaha!!
Well I’ll be proud to be one of the dozens, again.
The White Sox just offered 1/8 to Abreu. Match it and see who he choses, please.
Oh Fudge!
yeah, that’s the answer..
He wouldn’t hurt, he would only help. And at one year $8m he comes with very little risk.
then again wanny, it didn’t mind either he had the best player on earth hitting in front of him..
behind him i meant sorry
Was he only good when he was a Yankee?
Who’s Roger Rubin? Is he Adam Rubin’s brother?
I think the real question is Who Framed Roger Rubin?
ha
I want to see what kind of money Wiggy got. I also want to see if Abreu accepts a 1 year 8 million offer from the White Sox. If that happens, then that is an absolute steal.
How about an idea that could actually happen financially – sign Orlando Cabrera for 1 year and $6M to play 2B and bat second. He is the type of right handed bat and wining player we need.
He’s not better than Castillo and has only played 33 games in the ML at 2B.
Career avgs.
Cabrera: .274 .322 .399 (OPS+ 86)
Castillo: .292 .367 .355 (OPS+ 93)
That’ll never happen since we recently signed Cora.
is MR. ALEX CORA for you ok..
If You Sign Manny @ 2 yrs…$36 Mil…Your Just Asking For Trouble….
For That Price…Say Hello To Bad Manny!!!
like Rosenthal says, chances are anything less than the 2/45 that he turned down from the Dogers. = a miserable Manny. and we all know that can play out. and unless we make some sort of trade first, i just dont see us making another BIG signing.
(unfortunately)
The miserable Manny we saw last year was after 7 years of pent up frustration. On a new team, you won’t see that Manny. Regardless, he would still produce more than any other hitter on the team, miserable or not.
No last year wasn’t 7 years of pent up frustration, more like 7 months because Boston wouldn’t give him an Answer on his 25 million dollar a year option years. They said we’ll see. And he didn’t like that
So manny said we sure will and decided to hold a revolt, say his knee’s hurt and not play when he was fine. When he did play he was the same ole manny, .300 hitter on pace for 30-40 HR and close to 90-100 RBI.
Then he was moved to boston and the stipulation was “YOU WON’T PICK UP THE OPTION’S” so he could hit free agency and make 100 mil for 4 years. So he put the Best manny forward and we all saw what Manny could have been had he not been a head case his entire career.
Well that last part isn’t happening. Manny was a happy soldier being in the top 5 highest paid people in Boston. When he was hanging in the Winds he wasn’t happy.
He won’t be happy with a one year contract. And no way will he sign anything with “obedience clauses”
Exactly. And if he signs a one year deal, who is to say he won’t repeat his revolt in an attempt to strong-arm an extension before the season is over?
Manny is not coming to the Mets. He’s going to either the Dodgers, Giants or possibly the Angels.
where do you get the angels from?..they arent in on manny
The organizer of this is missing a perfect opportunity. They should be contacting Boras’s office about this.
Could you imagine if Scott himself showed up in the middle of the march, holding a “sign Manny” sign?
Or, treat it like a political rally. Boras can supply funding, pay for the signs, and bus in a bunch of ringers to seed the crowd.
You gotta figure something like this would never happen in LA.
lol… Boras will never spend his own money on anything other than himself…lmao
It’s an investment in marketing. Like those books he puts together.
we can though…and we should..but its minaya..he can make it work..lol
its been said over & over. its not up to Minaya. he was given a budget. & can only spend how he sees fit within that budget!!! unfortunately your beating a dead horse.
actually there is an article somewhere that i read wilpons never said omar couldnt get someone who he sees as a fit into the club…manny is a big fit
No Abreu, especially if Church is involved. Give Boras a ring Omar!
Abreu at taht price for 1 year? that’s worth a roll of the dice.
I still think that Omar is going to pull off a totally unexpected trade. and IMO, that is a better way to go.
All the FAs left have some issues, or are going to be 1year deals (meaning the hole reappears next year).
Getting a guy like Rios to fill a gap for 3+ years could really help build the core.
Manny I just don’t trust to last very long, certainly not for what he will be getting paid.
yeah, you’re all correct when saying that 18 mil is too little for manny (i cant believe i just said that, id spend 40 hours a week walking naked on roosevelt ave if i was gettin 18 mil a year)..but anyway, u can’t lowball him salary wise, and it looks like he really does want years….
3 years 60 million, i think, gets manny here within 24 hours of offering the contract…PLUS, that shouldnt affect our luxury tax issue…
this is a NO BRAINER…get this done by valentines day, so i have an excuse not to hang with a girl, cuz im watching manny press conferences
Give it a rest already. Sign O-Hud and start the show.
P.S. Even with no more moves this has been an OUTSTANDING offseason for Minaya (as usual).
Now we’re talking. I want Orlando Hudson more than Manny.
what part of “WE SIGN ALEX CORA” don’t you guys understand??
“P.S. Even with no more moves this has been an OUTSTANDING offseason for Minaya (as usual).”
I sure agree with this sentiment.
KRod and JJ are going to silence the naysayers….
No offense, Mr John Heyman, but your track record this season with your knowledge of potential signings hasn’t been good to say the least! By the way he also said last offseason that the Mets were “out of it” last offseason for Johan Santana! I guess we know how that turned out! Sign Manny!
lol, ive mentioned this before, but dont mind repeating myself…
heyman also said during the winter meetings that “omar minaya will not leave here with a closer” That nite, we signed K-Rod
Then, during the Putz rumors, he said “im not sure how close they are, or if its even going to happen”…an HOUR later, the trade went through…
Heyman SOUNDS the part, but he’s really clueless. He should stick to analyzing
Completely correct….Heyman also said Pat Burrell couldn’t hit homers away from his “bandbox” park, when he hits MORE on the road!!
All Heyman is missing is a bright red nose and long yellow shoes….
I cants see Manny in a nats uni let alone a giants uni. Does he honestly think hes gonna win in either place. He mighnt not even make the playoffs!!! Mets gotta get this guy.
this is really getting pathetic and embaras-sing
Couldn’t agree with you more.
ugh, i cant wait until manny signs somewhere. i appreciate peoples opinions, but this is like ARod from last year.
its obvious we arent getting him and i cant wait to not hear the speculation about him anymore
yeah… plus for all the people that equate Manny guaranteing us a World Series… have we forgotten how many rings A-rod brought the Skanks so far?
one “Mann” guarantees nothing!!!
thats a bad argument…manny has two with boston…
its not that obvious! If omar came out and said…folks it aint happening, sorry, than it would be obvious. Until than, anything is possible. Last year they said Johan was gonna sign with the red sox They even exchanged medical reports. The next day……Hello Queens!
maybe manny wants to play for the mets, why would he turned down 2 offers from the dodgers?
I think you’re right about that. I think he does want to play for the Mets.
I think it’s a possibility, although I’ve never heard him say that. I think he’d be very interested to play in NY for either team. That would certainly stick in the craw of his ex-bosses up in Boston.
I hate to post this for the umteenth time. But does this sound like a guy who would want to play in NY?

Bad in Boston, he has been no Dodger dog
By T J. Simers
September 28, 2008 in print edition D-2
SAN FRANCISCO – For the last two months he has been the difference maker for the playoff-bound Dodgers as both hitter and clubhouse goof.
But the question still needs to be answered: Does Manny Ramirez deserve an acting award in an effort to get one more big contract, or is this baseball manna from above as he appears?
“Every day I thank God I came here and had the chance to show people who I really am,” he says. “The guy you see here – that’s who I am.”
Sat down with Ramirez on Saturday for a couple of hours at the Dodgers’ hotel to talk about his future, dogging it in Boston, and his reputation as a flake.
Until now, he hasn’t had much to say about Boston, what went wrong, and what lingering impact it might have in shaping opinions of him as a free agent.
“The first time I stepped foot in Boston, I said to myself, ‘Whoa.’ I told Pedro Martinez, ‘Damn, man, I just want to get traded and get out of here; this place is not me.’ I was unhappy for eight years in Boston but still put up great numbers.”
He signed a contract with Boston for $160 million, a deal with options that could’ve swelled to $200 million. And he was unhappy – so unhappy he walked away from $40 million over the next two years.
“Baseball in Boston is like a Sunday football game, but played every day,” he says. “We lose in L.A., I go to breakfast and people say, ‘Well, you’ll get them tomorrow.’ In Boston, it’s ‘Hey, what’s going on, the Yankees are coming.’
“It’s just a different atmosphere. The fans in Boston got your back no matter what, but I’m talking about the people who write all this bull because it means so much to them. If your happiness depends on Boston winning or losing, you have to get a life.”
Many of the Red Sox writers grew up rooting for the team, and for that matter, most baseball writers are a serious lot who believe it’s their a-s-s-ignment to protect the game.
For someone like Ramirez, who doesn’t always appear to take the game seriously, he’s going to pay the price in reputation.
“There’s no doubt about that,” says Manager Joe Torre, who after two months is now convinced Ramirez is just a fun-loving guy often misunderstood.
“I’ve been impressed by his work ethic, and one thing I’ve learned, I didn’t know how much he cares for other players,” Torre says. “And that’s not something that can be put on.”
He brought an energy in L.A. to the stadium and clubhouse not seen in some time, but in Boston he stopped talking to the media, graduating from funny guy to malcontent.
“I would bring my kids to the park and I want my kids to be kids, but there’d be people trying to interview them. That’s so stupid,” Ramirez says. “I’d go to the parking lot after the game and 20 people I didn’t know would be offering food, CDs and things – then wanting something in return.
“Here the game ends, I go to the elevator, my car and no one bothers me.”
Things went so sour in Boston, the team insisted on medical tests when he said he could not play. He didn’t always run hard, and there was suspicion he struck out on purpose.
“I love to hit, to compete and would never do that; that’s just people looking for stuff,” he says, while admitting he now runs everything out in L.A., “and I don’t even have to think about it.”
That suggests he wasn’t running everything out in Boston, and while he tries to explain, he’s interrupted. There’s no explanation for such behavior after signing a contract and being paid $20 million a year to give his all.
“You’re right,” he says. “You’re right.”
He wants to leave Boston behind, but a few weeks back Curt Schilling felt it necessary to let everyone know Ramirez is no team player. Funny, some say the same about Schilling.
“I don’t wish him anything bad, although it did make me madder and play harder to show everyone who I am,” Ramirez says. “I don’t disrespect or takes shots at anyone. I don’t want someone going to one of my sons and saying your dad is a punk and talks bad about people behind their backs.”
By every other account, Ramirez was the consummate team player in Boston until the end when he became desperate to leave.
“Just let me be happy someplace else,” he says, the message intended for Boston. “I’m against the clock.”
He’s 36, four or five years remaining in a Hall of Fame career, “and I just want to play baseball and go home. That’s all I have ever wanted to do.
“In many ways I’m like my mom, who doesn’t curse, is always laughing and having fun. I strike out three times, and while I’m upset in my mind, I don’t show it. I just tell myself I will come back the next day and go three for four.”
The Dodgers were lifeless before he arrived, and “I don’t think we win the division without him,” Torre says.
And now every teammate is a pal, Ramirez making a point to pay respects to Jeff Kent. And every day someone loses a piece of clothing from his locker, Ramirez’s crazy idea of fun, although Kent doesn’t seem to be missing anything.
“People think I don’t take this seriously, but then why am I up early every morning working with the strength coach? I’m just playing around to keep everyone loose. When I was in Cleveland I asked a sportswriter if I could borrow $50,000 to buy a motorcycle. He wrote it like I was serious.
“It’s just great here; I don’t feel like I’m in a cage. The fans in L.A. are unbelievable – never in my 16 years have I received such a reception.”
Still easy, of course, for those who know only Ramirez’s reputation to shy away from endorsing his return, but as entertaining as he makes the game, if you believe what he has to say, how can you not bring him back?
And I believe.

so then with that article….tell me why he wanted to get another contract from them?….you cant..i already know that…
Because he’s a whore.
And look how he behaved in his attempt to get that contract. Is that what you want in August of this season when he’s pushing for an extension? If he wanted to be there so bad he wouldn’t have engineered his own exit.
Remember, he was voted off the island by his own teammates.
And of course, his own words don’t mean nearly as much as your own vapid thoughts.
We just find out that the Mets might have to sell a stake in the team perhaps because of the Madoff scandal…
…and anyone thinks they are going to go over the luxury tax threshold to sign Manny?
(Sorry EnterKrod.)
lets bring him in anyway…lol….i still think mets will get him
i love your positivity…you going to the million manny march?
i might..have to see…i might have a basketball game that night..i coach so…
thats what i was thinking…i think manny wants to play for queens…i just think that omar may have said something to boras about manny….if anyone hears anything before its posted on here…put it on
Here’s my issue with this entire thing…
I realize the Mets have a budget they are working with and that Manny’s contract is cost-prohibitive… However, when I hear on 660 last night that the Mets want to retain some fliexibility to make a run at Magglio Ordonez or Vernon Wells should they become available, my head spins.
Wouldn’t you rather bring in Manny for 2-3 years than trade away good young prospects at the deadline AND have to take on the contract of a Magglio or a Wells?
i dont like either one of them
If that’s true, that makes zero sense to me. Who said that, a host or someone from team?
Unless you read it on metsblog, it’s not true.
LOL!
at least not as much as manny
You are going to like KRod even more than MANNYMANNYMANNY when he notches his 58th save on Sept 20th or so to clinch the division…
LOL!
lol..brock i love reading old posts if i havent been on and seeing you post…i laugh everytime..lol..
Thanks man! Sometimes I get a bit rude when dealing with the mistermets of Metsblog, but I really do try to be funny…..
Reasons Why Manny Wants to be a MET:
1) He gets to play for the state he grew up in
2) 90% of the team is hispanic
3) Some of his best friends play for the team (reyes, beltran, johan, k-rod)
3) Hes gonna make bank!
4) He gets to be the LF for opening day of a brand new ball park.
5) He has family that live like 20 minutes from Citi Field.
your guys thoughts…….
I don’t think it’s very fruitful to try to get inside Manny’s head. Who knows what he wants? Besides $$$, the rest is pure speculation.
See my post above timed 11a.m. — a cut and paste of an LA Times article.
Manny doesn’t sound like a guy who would be happy in NY…
One reason (and only one needed) why Manny doesn’t want to me a Met:
1) The Mets don’t have enough money
Which of Wright, Schneider, Murphy, Church, Redding, JJ, Anderson, Evans, Pelfrey, Stokes, and Maine are Hispanic?
If 90% of the team is Hispanic, we will have to petition MLB for a 100 man roster this year….
Reasons why manny wont be a met
1) $
2)Scott Boras
3)Manny
Reasons Why Manny Wants to be a MET:
1) He gets to play for the state he grew up in
A) Not unless the Wilpons sell the team to New York State he doesn’t.
2) 90% of the team is hispanic
A) No it’s not.
3) Some of his best friends play for the team (reyes, beltran, johan, k-rod)
A) No evidence supports that any of these players are among Manny’s best friends.
3) Hes gonna make bank!
A) He’ll make less than he’s already turned down twice if he plays for the Mets.
4) He gets to be the LF for opening day of a brand new ball park.
A) He could do that in the Bronx, too.
5) He has family that live like 20 minutes from Citi Field.
A) I can’t dispute this one.
your guys thoughts…….
I don’t care if they sell the whole dam team! Just sign Manny! lol
I won’t $peculate one what term$ would be nece$$ary to bring Manny here, but I will $ay that adding Manny to thi$ team would virtually guarantee a playoff $pot, and make an appearance in the World $erie$ likely.
And he would certainly put a lot of rump$ in the $eat$.
1) Manny didn’t get the Dodgers into the Series, did he?
2) Do you think the Mets are having trouble filling seats in a new stadium?
needs better pitching
no
lol
1) No, he didn’t. But the Mets are not the Dodgers. The Mets were a better team than the Dodgers, but the Dodgers played in a crappy division – thus their playoff appearance.
2) No. But there is little doubt that Manny and the Mets would see increased revenue over Manny-less Mets. The guy is a goldmine.
Where is the increased revenue coming from? Jersey sales? Perhaps. But enough to justify the rest? I doubt it.
And are you saying that the only reason the One Man Gang got LA into the playoffs was because the division is weak? If so, that doesn’t bode well for the Mets in a better division.
Anyway, the Dodgers had a pretty good team. They had decent pitching with Billingsley, Lowe, Kuroda, Kershaw and a very good pen with Saito, Broxton, Wade and Park. Their lineup other than Manny had solid, if not spectacular, hitters like Kemp, Ethier, Kent, Loney and Martin. Sure, the Mets are probably better but one man does not guarantee anything.
Mannyblog!!
Rosenthal believes Ramirez may be left with no choice but to accept a two-year, $36 million offer from the Giants, though, “Such a deal would make him miserable, perhaps as miserable as he was in his final days in Boston.”
Yeah perfect guy for this team. $36 million over 2 years will make him miserable. We HAVE to offer him a contract!!!!
Give me a break
If they are unwlling to “steal” a quality everyday guy like Hudson or Cabrera to play 2B because they have Cora and Castillo that’s pathetic. The OF is fine – if you want to upgrade offensively, you need to look at 2B since there are no options at catcher.
I don’t see how Hudson is that much of an upgrade offensively. 10 million for him is definately not worth it. He has slightly more power than Castillo offensively. If you look at Castillo’s previous 6 seasons before last year, he had a .300 average with .360 OBP! I think there is no where to go but up for him this year. I don’t think you lose all your skills at 33. You heard it here first… expect a bounce back year from Castillo!
Yeah, good luck w/that “bounce-back” season
from Luis achesandpains.First of all,theres a
good chance this guys 35not33.Second,hes
atleast 50lbs heavier(on a small frame)then
he was 5yrs ago.Third, his knees and maybe
more importantly his hips are shot. Not good
for a player whos game is based almost completely on speed.Great job Omar!
Expect to see plenty of Cora @ 2B this year.
OMG… Such Manny mania! Instead of saying you all are dellusional again, I’ll put in my 2 cents…
There is only one scenario where I could see Manny coming to the Mets. Trade Delgado and move Murphy to first. Also dump Castillo, but I don’t think that will be possible.
stop complaining about club house influence like as if you are sitting in the dugout with him or something. Manuel says he can handle Manny so get it done.
Manny makes sense on so many levels, he’d give us that swagger we had back in ‘86 or even ‘06.
Indeed!, These yo-yos type as if they know
what they’re talkin’ about.
A)Manny is and has been absolutely loved
by 95% of his teammates.
B)Manny keeps his team loose b/c of his
“feel no pressure attitude”
Ya think the Mets could have used this type of
mentality the last few years?
Here’s what Terry Francona said shortly after Manny was traded, per the Boston Globe:
There was no mistaking the belief in Francona’s words, however, that better days lie ahead.
“We want an atmosphere,” he said, “where good players want to do the right thing.
“I was very pleased. What we care about, all of us together, is our team, and I think we sit here feeling pretty good about our team.”
And???
we need Manny in the lineup because if Pelfrey, Maine and Ollie all don’t pitch well (which is can very reasonably happen) we can still make the playoffs.
I think we can make the playoffs without him but he makes us so much better offensively that we could survive if our “questionable players” fail…
and if manny gets walked every time in a clutch situation then what….stuck with the team that you think will not make the playoffs even though we have manny…..
dirty,
if he gets walk we will either have beltran or delgado hitting behind him.. it’s not gonna affect ue that much.. at the end of the day he’s gonna sign with a team like the giants or dodgers, let’s be realistci guys..
thats all im asking for alex..BE REALISTIC..god its getting annoying every single day talking about this guy and we all should know at this point hes not coming here and even if he does, it does not guarentee anything. The great manny ramirez is as vulnerable to the 4 wide as anyone in baseball.
100 true..
Won’t there always be questionable players? Who doesn’t have them?
Even fantasy teams have questionable players. And sometimes the players you don’t think are questionable… can be questionable… just like Manny was in the first half of last season when he was carrying on like a little baby looking for an extension.
and he still put up crazy numbers
Not as “crazy” as the numbers he put up when he decided to stop pouting like a child anf forced his way out of Boston.
If Manny signs a one year deal, he’ll hit the cover off the ball through July and if he doesn’t have an extension by that time… what will happen?
Yeah,b/c THATS his history right.
Based on the bad situation w/Boston
of LAST YEAR. Nothing else he has done
in his career right? Not being the best combo
Power/Average Hitter of his time,Not being
maybe the best clutch hitter of his time and
not being the guy who still put up better numbers then anyone we have during a season when, yes he clearly dogged-it for
a couple months. Look, you can hate this guy
all you want BUT this IS NOT a bad guy.
This isn’t Bonds or Canseco AND this isn’t
a talented, highly paid guy who is a lazy dog
like a Bonilla.
If he signs for one year he will be in the same position as he was last year.
The fact that he can hit has nothing to do with his greed and lack of character. If he decides in July that he wants an extension… will he not quit again? I dont know. But I don’t want to find out.
Manny will not be a met…
STOP IT PPL please..
Sign Manny!
Im just curious…if manny is too “expensive” for the mets right now…what are these “marches” going to accomplish. Wouldnt this just be giving boras the upperhand by basicaly putting the mets vs their fans. How will these marches make manny more affordable?
Can I propose a trade?
Fred and Jeff for Hal and Hank.. Then wed be guarnteed to get Manny…LOL
check out mlbtr
yup…the bats are starting to shore up…
willing to give 5 inning Ollie 12M per season but won’t even get in on Manny. Nobody else was even interested in Perez and we still overpay. “Meet the Mets”
mlbtr says Jr. might be an option
personally, i wouldnt mind seeing him in the line-up.
Manny is not too expensive the Wilpons just don’t want to spend the money.
raising the payroll by 15% to cover the cost of Manny is perfectly reasonable considering its going to cost the fan at least an extra 20% to go to the game and the fact that revenues will be up by at least 15% as well…
1) the luxury tax payroll is calculated differently than the amount of salaries in any given year. The luxury tax payroll takes the average annual value of each contract — therefore, players with escalating contracts will count more toward this year’s payroll than you think.
2) you obviously think the Mets purchased this stadium without incurring any financial debt or loss? Last I checked they’re still a business and are still entitled to make money.
And you win a Championship, you open the
flood gates to additional revenues as well
as satisfying your fans while creating new ones. The Yankees sure did create a whole
new generation of fans b/c of their run in the
90s.The first generation of computer game
kids are all yankee fans b/c they won NOT
b/c of their history.

This is why people want Manny, or Hudson, or Abreu, or Dunn, or Sheets, or Peavy, or J. Cruz, or Nady, or M. Young, or anyone that to them will increase Mets chances at winning a W.S.
great article on fox sports comparing manny to latreel spreewell. basically the knicks were willing to gamble on a headcase, meanwhile wilpons are too afraid to even “put the dice in their hands.”

YES! 2nd highest payroll and Beltran, Pedro, Wagner, Johan, KRod, Putz—-how much cheaper can they be??
My kingdom for a brain!! Even a walnut-sized one would be a major upgrade!!
I’ll take Jr…really anybody who can play LF. No Murphy/Tatis to start the season.
question for season ticket holders
how much more will it cost you to go to a game this season as opposed to last season?
