Manny will not be worth $20M to an NL team in the third year of his contract and he will be untradeable. That was my point.

If you had an issue with the Mets spending $8M on Alou last year, just wait until they spend $20M on a disgruntled DH in 2011.

great article on fox sports comparing manny to latreel spreewell. basically the knicks were willing to gamble on a headcase, meanwhile wilpons are too afraid to even “put the dice in their hands.”

Mets fan living in Boston the last 3.5 years…. As you may know, the sox coverage is beyond extensive here with the NESN network, and the reaction to the manny trade was documented ad nauseum. All I know is after the sox traded manny, EVERY single player said he needed to go. Nobody mourned his loss, not even papi. This is during the season following their WS win, so they knew what they were losing in his production. Yet, not a single one of his teammates showed the slightest remorse for his departure. That’s gotta tell you something. The players that know him best and deal with him on a day-to-day basis don’t want him around at all once he’s unhappy (despite his offensive potential), and coming back to a baseball-obsessed city would be unlikely to make a happy manny.

This is why people want Manny, or Hudson, or Abreu, or Dunn, or Sheets, or Peavy, or J. Cruz, or Nady, or M. Young, or anyone that to them will increase Mets chances at winning a W.S.

If he signs for one year he will be in the same position as he was last year.

The fact that he can hit has nothing to do with his greed and lack of character. If he decides in July that he wants an extension… will he not quit again? I dont know. But I don’t want to find out.
