Bobby Abreu has been offered a one-year, $8 million deal from the White Sox, according to the Daily News.
Tim Dierkes from MLB Trade Rumors adds, “If the Sox are able to sign Abreu, you’d have to think Jermaine Dye or Jim Thome would be traded.”
This morning on WFAN, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said there is a circumstance under which the Mets could go after Abreu, but, “some people say the Mets would have to first trade Ryan Church.”
…by the way, thanks to the shout for MetsBlog by Evan Roberts on WFAN a few moments ago… i appreciate it, buddy…
This morning on WFAN, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said, so far, only the Dodgers and Giants have admitted to having interest in free-agent OF Manny Ramirez.
According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Giants, and maybe the Nationals, might be left to pursue Ramirez, as the Dodgers could look to sign Orlando Hudson, Randy Wolf and Adam Dunn instead.
Rosenthal believes Ramirez may be left with no choice but to accept a two-year, $36 million offer from the Giants, though, “Such a deal would make him miserable, perhaps as miserable as he was in his final days in Boston.”
Heyman said, regarding the Mets, ‘I don’t like to say anything is 100 percent, but there is no evidence that I can find that they’re gonna be going after Manny Ramirez… I’ll say two or three percent at best (they sign him), there is just no evidence, zero evidence, though I never like to rule anything out.”
Heyman believes that if Ramirez had similar offers from the Mets and other teams, he’d probably favor the Mets.
By the way, the same group of fans who took part in last week’s Million Manny March at the SNY studios are planning a second March for Thursday, Feb. 5, again at the SNY studios, during the show’s Mets Hot Stove show, which airs at 7 pm EDT.
The SNY studio is located at 51st and Sixth Ave., though some fans will be gathering across the street at 6:30 pm by Radio City., before marching
over the to studio in time for the Hot Stove show.
The group’s organizers simply say, ‘Bring signs, wear Mets gear, and Go Wild.”
Nevertheless, Heyman still believes Ramirez will sign with the Dodgers.
…if the Mets do not at least ask Scott Boras what it would take to get ramirez, they’re crazy… i’m not saying they should or have to go overboard and do whatever is needed to get him, but they have to ask, because this is all playing out right in from of them…

Update, 10:23 am:
According to a report on CNBC, the Mets say Citigroup has contacted them and will continue to honor their current marketing and naming rights agreement, contrary to the Wall Street Journal report from below.
The Orioles have reached a two-year agreement with free-agent Ty Wigginton, reports Ken Rosenthal from FoxSports.com.
According to Rosenthal, Wigginton will likely serve as a
right-handed hitting first baseman and designated hitter, while backing up Melvin Mora at third base.
…i know a lot of Mets fans were interested in seeing the team sign wigginton… but, from what i can gather, after hitting .285 with 23 HR last season, he was a) not interested in taking a step backwards, and returning to Queens as a back-up player, which is how he started his career, and b) similarly, he was trying to find the biggest guarantee, with the most playing time possible, which i guess was the O’s…
Last night, Manny Ramirez rejected the Dodgers one-year, $25 million offer, according to the Los Angeles Times.
…as noted below, the deal was a straight one-year deal and and did not include a second-year option…
Jackson believes the Mets, Giants and Nationals are among the teams monitoring Ramirez’s situation, “but don’t appear inclined to pay him more than $20 million a season.”
Ramirez was given a 48–hour deadline, as Jayson Stark reported last night for ESPN.com, though the free-agent outfielder only needed a few hours to make his decision.
…by rejecting the offer, it would suggest Scott Boras and manny are confident they can get more money, or at least more years, from another team…
…now the question is, who will offer more… and, is he willing to accept a two-year, $15 million deal…
Last night on MLBN’s Hot Stove Show, SI.com’s Jon Heyman said he sees no evidence the Mets are making a play for Ramirez.
