ugh. Really?

PA-Mets-Fan February 6, 2009 at 4:03 pm

I know everybody has these fond memories of shea and the old apple, but honestly, compared to the new modern stadiums, Shea and the old apple were dumps. I for one am extremely excited about Citi Field and the new apple. I know it will cost more to watch a game in the new stadium and there are fewer seats than Shea, but it is going to be a much better fan experience at Citi.

Also, the last few years didn’t invoke found memories as the Mets collapsed down the stretch. With the new stadium opening, the Mets can finally close the door on the last 2 years and start fresh in the new park!!!

number15 February 6, 2009 at 4:14 pm

i’m excited about the new stadium too and can’t wait to go to my first game. i enjoy going to a few games a year, but am i the only one who finds the experience of watching a baseball game on tv a lot more satisfying? when you’re there, you can’t tell balls and strikes, you spend 2 innings a game on line for the bathroom or concessions, you pay 5-10 times the actual value of what you’re buying, and you miss out on the great sny crew, not to mention the replays

NYMETSFAN718 February 6, 2009 at 4:19 pm

Yes and no, at the stadium, you could yell at the players, meet new people, see how fast the ball goes from pitcher to home. Man it looks alot further on tv than in real life. that ball gets up there quick.

number15 February 6, 2009 at 4:22 pm

you’re definitely right. and i love to go to the park now and again, but the most i would want would be a 15-pack. i like watching the majority of the games on tv

ineedhelp February 7, 2009 at 7:18 am

IF all that you are going to take out of Shea stadium is the last few finishes; then I quess you missed what the Shea experiance was about…
Good luck finding happiness

QnsNative1718 February 6, 2009 at 3:26 pm

kistics February 6, 2009 at 3:27 pm

It’s great to see Citifield up close

lil pelf February 6, 2009 at 3:28 pm

would it have been great if they built a GIANT top hat. the center field wall extends higher up there i think, what’s the deal with that? is it in play?

Joe Bacci February 6, 2009 at 3:32 pm

its not quite big enough.

keep it posi February 6, 2009 at 3:35 pm

maybe the wilpons made the apple so big because they were trying to compensate for a something else?

SantanaClause February 6, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Are u sugesting Manny or are you saying there apples ..ehhm.. are more like cherries

kistics February 6, 2009 at 3:48 pm

OR certain body part(s)….

DontShakeAlousHand February 6, 2009 at 3:38 pm

ESPN just reported that Manuel said that during the season any reliever who blows the game will sealed inside the apple until their next appearance.

When asked to comment, Heilman was quoted as saying “I got out just in time, do you think that applies to visiting teams too?, are the mets on our schedule this year?”

kistics February 6, 2009 at 3:41 pm

Why not shake alou’s hand?

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 February 6, 2009 at 3:42 pm

kistics February 6, 2009 at 4:02 pm

lil pelf February 6, 2009 at 3:56 pm

• MannyB’s core numbers with the bases empty: .299/.386/.568.
• MannyB’s core numbers with runners in scoring position: .329/.454/.607.

kistics February 6, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Who’s MannyB and what’s that gotta do with the apple?

tommycasimir February 6, 2009 at 4:03 pm

that apple woulda gotten a heck of alot more use if manny were on board

CannonBoy13 February 6, 2009 at 4:24 pm

Totally agree. It’s not too late yet.

gogomets February 7, 2009 at 12:55 pm

dont know about that

Nightlife February 6, 2009 at 4:16 pm

What if the one hold up with Manny coming to the Mets is that he wanted the deal to be a secret until the home opener where he pops out of the apple during player introductions.

TheMonstersOutOfTheCage February 7, 2009 at 9:05 am

they didnt sign manny because there scared he might dent the new apple

bennyagbayani February 6, 2009 at 4:12 pm

this place is gonna be frickin magical haha

gogomets February 6, 2009 at 4:13 pm

dont get your hopes up too much bro

bennyagbayani February 6, 2009 at 4:16 pm

well I hope to see a 30 foot apple pop out of the ground. Looks like the Mets are doing everything possible to make that happen.

Roach2 February 6, 2009 at 4:14 pm

This comment thread is for 13 year olds only….clearly i’m in the wrong place…

NYMETSFAN718 February 6, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Adios

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 February 6, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Yeah, you better go find the one for 8 year olds so you feel more at home….

kistics February 6, 2009 at 4:27 pm

I’m not 13.. I’m 14 dang it!!

MetsFan4Decades February 6, 2009 at 4:21 pm

Wow – clearly must be a long week winding down for some. People have been sniping at each other all day – and even picking on Matt and his posts today.

I think we’re all in heavy baseball withdrawal…..

swirlywand February 6, 2009 at 4:22 pm

AWWWWWWWWW that is awesome!!!!!!!! An apple a day…(at the risk of getting kicked off metblog) keeps the [Phillies, tums, marlins, braves, tummyaches] away!

NYMETSFAN718 February 6, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Why would you get kicked off?

kistics February 6, 2009 at 4:29 pm

weird…

casey s. February 6, 2009 at 5:07 pm

did they install vegas style slot machines in the new stadium, too?

sellitman February 6, 2009 at 5:25 pm

Now we need Steve Jobs to buy the naming rights to the stadium so it’s not called Bail Out Field.

We got an Apple……now we need one more.

SantanaClause February 6, 2009 at 5:30 pm

the iPark

DAG February 6, 2009 at 6:13 pm

it looks about as uninspired as the citi field patch.

metsin080910 February 6, 2009 at 6:29 pm

Who’s going to hit the first homerun at Citi Field?

My money is on Delgado.

SantanaClause February 6, 2009 at 10:55 pm

who ever leads off for the redsox on Apr 3rd

el_giacomo February 6, 2009 at 6:37 pm

mmmmmm…looks delicious!

Elastic February 6, 2009 at 6:59 pm

The opposing team.

NYM_NYI_NYG_Fan February 6, 2009 at 7:25 pm

Looks cool, BTW, does anyone know what they ever decided to do with the old one?

ProudMetFan February 7, 2009 at 3:29 pm

I heard it will be on display on the outside of the stadium, like on the roof or something.

Flushing_is_Burning February 6, 2009 at 7:56 pm

i hope installing the other half of the apple is with citifield budget.

SantanaClause February 6, 2009 at 11:03 pm

Nah we’ll platoon between an old half of last years apple and an unproven part thats out of its normal spot and hope they does well enough. Even though the back is still available and would be a perfect fit.

ineedhelp February 7, 2009 at 7:19 am

Thanks for the video:
THE APPLE LIVES…

The question remains:
DOES THE APPLE FALL FAR FROM THE TREE?

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 February 7, 2009 at 9:34 am

Wow, not too desperate for attention from strangers on an anonymous internet message board are we?

I am glad I am not you, as I am sure anyone else who notices this will be.

Geez, you are a sorry sack of misery.
