Mets pitchers and catchers are required to report to Tradition Field by Friday.
However, David Wright, Johan Santana, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider, Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans are already in camp working out, while Sean Green and J.J. Putz, among others, are likely to report in the next day or so.
…by the way, SNY will be broadcasting Mets Hot Stove live from Duffy’s in Port St. Lucie this Thursday, Feb. 12, as well as next Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 pm…
…also, the following Friday, Feb. 27, will be my last night in St. Lucie… the Mets play at 1 pm against the Cardinals at Tradition Field… so, if any one is still in town, and interested in doing a MetsBlog Get-Together on that night, let me know in an e-mail…

Any word on Dan Murphy’s injury from the Arizona Fall League?
I’m sure it’s fine by now.
hes healthy now
What is a good hotel to book while in PSL? I want to go down there in two weeks? Beyond Duffy’s, are there any other Mets night activities?
There are no bad hotel in PSL and they book up pretty fast. If your going with a group (three or four) I suggest you try one of the PGA villages ( Sheraton) where you can rent a townhouse and split it or look for time share rentals for the week. If you cant find anything in PSL within reason ($$) you might want to try Fort pierce its only five minute drive to PSL the hotels are much cheaper -but it is what it is -an industrial, blue collar town with loads of truck reststops. Safe but nowhere near as nice as PSL.
As far as night life…Jensen Beach (RIGHT next to PSL) has a nice strip of bars/restaurants to choose from
Thanks for the info……I appreciate it
I wonder if the Mannyacs will do their ‘Million Manny March’ at Duffy’s this week….
A couple of the guys got grounded, and not everyone is on spring break, so it is looking like the Half a Dozen Man March
(with thanks to Aquadealer…..)
LOL
where’s jose reyes???
Murphy probably reported in Mid-October.
Hahaha!
haha i was thinking of the same thing!
I have a three-day weekend this weekend, so it would’ve been awesome to fly down to St Lucie (/west palm beach)…but the flights are way too expensive now. Oh well!
man i am going to try and go this year…
Cowards…they ran away from the Manny rallies….Hmmm, now let’s see…if the Mets don’t sign Manny, will this tactic aid to defuse the Mets fans growing angst with this organization’s refusal to go the extra mile in order to bring home a Championship or will it aggravate an already volatile fan base that’s not going away? I wonder….
ATTICA!! ATTICAA!!! ATTICCAAAA!!!!!!!!!!
Hmm i just got into PSL last night, it’s so nice that the folks just happen to have a house here…. I”m going to have to get over to tradition, and maybe hit Duffys this thursday.
I will be heading down on Friday. Hope to meet everyone!
unleash DMURPH!!!
seriously, give the kid a shot! NO ABREU
Reyes really should be taking the lead and getting there ahead of everyone…same with Delgado/Beltran..
I know all 3 are married with kids, they all appear to adhere to the golden rules of marriage ( happy wife happy life ) but still…
I wish Castillo was down in Florida already. Hope he comes ready to play.
I thought Omar did tell us Castillo has been down in PSL for awhile now – at least several weeks, working out with trainers, etc.
lol He better be or he is going to hear it even worse this year from the fans. Last I heard Castillo was working out at the Mets facilities in the Dominican Republic.
I am sure Delgado and Beltran and Jose will be reporting in a couple days. I don’t think it is a big deal they are not there yet.
I stand corrected. You are right. He did say he was at their facility in DR working out. My bad….
Its nice to see when players show up early.
I wish Delgado was in that group.
i’ll probably drive up, it would be nice to put some faces to names.
It’s nice to see some positivity other then the usual: Omar is enept, Cora was over-payed, the offense is full of ?’s and of coarse that outfielder.
I’m very optimistic heading into this year. The bullpen is sound and has lots of depth. Something the mets haven’t had….thinking….thinking…. oh yeah EVER. And I know they didn’t get their #2, but they actually have depth in case of injury or that dreaded spot start. No more Nelson Figeurora’s or the like.
come on mark, you know the old saying:
hope springs eternal

WE ARE READY FOR WAR!
Looks good on paper. It always looks good on paper.
OMG,
your the typical fan who start comparing the mets with the phillies, bro, in terms of talent the mets mmaybe be better, but again, we don’t only play the phillies!! the phillies weren’t the best 8th team last year, but they won the WS, u have to go out there and PERFORM! let’s just pray that everythin goes well for us becoz we’re gonna need it..
Still I see his point. This is much better than the ledge jumpers who for some reason think that we are not good enough and will finish 3rd place.
loll
that’s me.. and i stand tall on my prediction.. also i said santana will be CY young and Reyes MVP but yet u don’t seem to recall those you EJ..
i cant see Reyes ever winning, because the world hates us… *sigh*
if santana wins 20 this year, hes CY
my advise to anyone is to sit back and enjoy the spring, and when the season begins, just enjoy the games. it’s a six month long season. just enjoy.
It is highly unlikely that the MVP and Cy Young winners will come from a 3rd place team.
u get the point as to why i was saying :say hello to third place.. how come ppl rememebr that but don’t remember that i said that santana and reyes for awards..
well, we have seen that if he has the same kind of year as last year but gets on fire in sept there’d be no stopping us.. that can lead to ppl to say, yeah, they’re back becoz he’s back..
Omar is enept, Cora was over-payed, the offense is full of ?’s and of coarse that outfielder”
ALL OF THAT IS TRUE..
but we still are gonna root for the mets no matter what.. what other choice do we have? and please don’t say go root for another team, is getting old.
All of that is speculation and opinion. Maybe true, maybe not.
i know ALEX CORA is not an speculation.. that my friend is a fact..
What if we have a great year, win at least the pennant, and Jose has the .340/235 hit year we all know he has in him, and Castillo bounces back, and they both credit Cora’s influence as helping them and the team….
Will Cora still be overpaid??
first of all, u have to explain to me how cora will help them for me to answer ur question
Obviously, that is an opinion as well. Many have spoken about how good of a signing it was and many have said we overpaid. Many have even said, like me, that we overpaid by a little because he would have to backup Castillo. Would you not require more money to backup Castillo?
Many have spoken about how good of a signing it was”
you and like 2 other ppl.. the signing came at a bad time, we over paid, and he’s just another GARBAGE on the mets bench..
I was not counting myself as an expert. When the signing happen many experts in the baseball world said it was a good signing. You my friend are one sided and clueless when it comes to an actual debate. Not to mention I already said that I would never debate this topic with you again because it was like debating with my 9th graders. Obsessed with their opinion but very little facts to back it up, inability to comprehend that there are two sides to every story.
When the signing happen many experts in the baseball world said it was a good signing”
do me a favor, please try and tell me who were the experts who said this was a good signing and why.. thank you..
Maybe the Brooklyn Met fan will create “Go Big Murph” or “Go D. Murph” shirts this year. Really got Pelf going last year!! : )
i <3 dmurph
It’s guy love….
man crush. dont hate
Scrubs reference. sorry you missed it
=]
What about
“Go
Church”
Where’s Pedro?
preparing at party at his mom’s house to come to USA to get ready and pitch for the DR in the WBC.. ugh..
if pedro has really lost his curve… hes done
that curveball was horrendous end of last year
His overall control was pretty bad too. It seemed like when he absolutely needed to throw a strike, it was a straight meatball right over the plate that got crushed every time.
The fastball wasn’t too hot either….
not at all but his trade the first year he was on the mets was that he could always throw his curveball over for a strike on ANY count. && it helped him set up a favorable count.
Looking for Waldo
sitting home, waiting for the phone to ring.
Not needed in PSL at this point either.
Being interviewed by SNY’s newest correspondent Manuel, under a shady palm tree?
Trading injury stories with Alou?
Trying to get a calculator with larger computing capacity to figure out how much he got paid per win for the Mets the last 3 years?
i love how Alou woke up one morning, came to the ballpark, first at bat hits a rope down the left field line, walks back to the clubhouse && waves his hands in the air while screaming, ” DONE!” then bacations in florida for the rest of the year =]
Yes, it is unfortunate that he and Pedro’s most effective activities while Mets were clearly endorsing checks.
el duque was way ahead of them though..
Ok, I just have a gut feeling Pedro will be on the Mets.
Does anyone really think he’s going to pitch anywhere else?
He’s begging to come back and redeem himself, “I’ve got something to prove.”
Will the Mets family (not the Yankees corp.) close the door on the Godfather of the Modern Mets?
I agree…Don Pedro Corleone would make a fine as*istant and translator for Mr. Warthen…..
Probably. Plus, what do they have to do with him now? Does he want to come in on a make-good deal to fight for the 5th spot?
At best, they will let ST play out and see if they are going to need another arm. And of course, how Pedro does in the WBC!
Did the Sox really need Penny and Smoltz? No, but they still got them at aproximately $5M each for some depth. I see Garcia and Pedro in the same light. Low Risk – High Reward.
Yeah, you do have a point….but Smoltz of course has the outstanding bullpen history….I wonder if Pedro would be happy pitching in the 7th inning or being a long man if The Chief wins the 5th spot??
If so, and he takes a discounted rate, sure, bring him in!
For us Steeler fans, this has been a short winter
yeah, specially when the referees are wit you at all time you know nothing bad will happen..
Sniff, sniff, whaaaaaa. Seriously. I have seen maybe 10 games in all of my life as a coach that were decided by a ref. Usually one team just outplays the other.
super bowl 40..
loll didnt you get the feeling.. that the steelers HAD to win…
testing 1…2
welcome back
hahaha.. i just got what u meant..
thank you thank you
Johan’s session is under way. Newsday’s Davis Lennon is covering it, while writing:
Johan Santana is on a mound for the first time since his October knee surgery and joining him on the bullpen six-pack here this morning is Duaner Sanchez and Oliver Perez.
Its only been a few pitches, but so far, so good. No one has hobbled off the mound yet.
-
-
Lennon also does a write-up on why Delgado should be angry at A-Rod, who edged him out for the 2003 AL MVP Award.
again, anybody who criticizes arod is a moron, i’d trade DAVID WRIGHT for him in a blink of an eye…
That’s just crazy talk.
If they were both the same age, you may have a valid argument.
But I’ll take the 26 yr old Wright EVERY TIME over the 34 yr old A-Rod.
the chose, when david wright accomplished what this man did at 31 we can talk.. the best player of our era wether he used steroids or not, i’ll take him over D-WRIGHT any day, oh and at 26, ALEX had 57 HOME RUNS!
well he did use roids…but anyway, how long do you think arod can sustain his offenseive production…wright isnt even in his prime yet. I take wright
After each of their first 4 full seasons, A-Rod hit 142 HR’s, while Wright collected 130.
I respect your opinion, and your love for A-Rod, but don’t act like Wright is some push-over. He’s great in his own (w)right!!
no way! a-rod is about the numbers not the team.. i guess now it won’t matter since his numbers are tainted.
no way! a-rod is about the numbers not the team.. ”
u remember that interview wit joe b in the fan? when joe said u had like 53 rbi’s after the 7th inning and d-wright’s like “oh, no is 54″?? please.. i’d take ALEX ROID-RIGUEZ ahead of any met right now!! except santana
OUCH! Are you serious?
alex, go check out ARod’s “clutch” numbers…and I think he is something like 0-for-his-last 20-something in the postseason with men on base!
Not to mention Wright’s infinitely better personality, age difference, and total lack of A-Fraud’s self-promotional attitude.
Read the Torre book…it is VERY illuminating on a LOT of topics. A great and educational read for any true baseball fan.
at least he makes the playoffs. david wright hit .160 against the cardinals!!!! not to mention he was 1-11 in “clutch” situations, i guess a sign of things to come huh.. please..
wasnt that the same year wright did his first hr derby and tired out at the end of the season. Similar to chase last year or the year before….
oh yeah, how did that do to howard in 2006?
im sure that went well….missing the playoffs and watching it on tv…went very well for howard.
HE didn’t make the playoffs – the team did. And in post season, his numbers are horrible. They’ve never won a WS with him.
Now that he has to get off the juice, that stat isn’t likely to get better.
Unless it’s proven that DWright is also using, he’s the better choice. Natural talent over an artificial, inflated one. W/o the juice ARod will come back down to earth.
ARod’s fragile ego alone makes him the poor choice….
yeah, he was just resting for 2 straight playoff run and a title later i guess it paid off.
MR Lennon might not like that I changed his name to Davis. :)
Edit: David
I wish they would fix this comment section.
Still can’t post using Firefox.
Using I.E. but formatting is horrible.
Keep getting kicked out under I.E. Log back in, half the time it says I’m not logged in.
I can only hope all these problems cropping up means someone is working on it…..
Wow, that is nutty…sorry for your trouble…I am using Firefox and have yet to have a problem with it. Sorry, I am not nearly tech-savvy enough to help, but I really hope your troubles end soon…we need you here!
Thanks for the sympathy – lol. You are lucky if you’re not having a problem with Firefox. I’ve heard several others are in the same boat I am. I wonder if it’s b/c I recently downloaded their newest version a couple of days ago…..
I think you might have it right there…I do not know which edition of Firefox I have, but probably one that is maybe a year old….
not likely
PECOTA predictions were released. They have the Mets winning the East, with 93 games. That’s five games ahead of the Phillies and Braves. The interesting part about this, they have the Phillies and the Braves dead even.
WHAT!! no way…thats an outrage…we are going to finish 3rd
PECOTA also projected the mets to win the division last year, and the year before last.. what happened??
CHOKE JOB!
Last I checked, Vegas also had us as the NL East faves….doesn’t mean much, but still, nice to see….
Yup. They still are favored – not that it means anything – on paper – lol.
I’ve got a $20 ticket from the line at Vegas the Mets win the WS. It’s at 8-1 odds. Last I checked, after the ticket was bought, they’re now down to 7-1.
I’ll have to go out and see if the odds changed for the Yankees with this latest scandal – hahahahaha.
Sweet! The only time I ever won one of those was the 2000 Baltimore Ravens….I thought their defense was going to be special, and they were I think 22-1 to win it all and 16-1 to win the NFC…..that was fun, cashing those tix and having a free trip to Vegas that winter!
uh last time i checked the ravens play in the AFC…
Sorry boss, of course they do…I still get a little excited when I think of cashing those tickets and it clouds my Met-filled mind.
93? That’s an outrage. I expect nothing less than 100.
Alex.422 probably isn’t even a Mets fan. What next? Is he going to try to convince people that Shane Victorino is better than Carlos Beltran?
no hes guna say how bad alex cora is without ever seeing him play or knowing that every player on the red sox, as well as their fans, wanted him back but we offered more then them. and he said that arod is the best player of our generation steroids or not!!!! that title goes to bonds quite easily..his stats are a joke
well, at least arod admitted himself what other years he also used it withouth nobody even asks him, bonds got better AFTER steroids, again, everyone is entitle to their own opinion, and mine is this,
I’D TRADE DAVID WRIGHT IN A BLINK OF A SECOND FOR ALEX RODRIGUEZ..
HAHAHA – chuckle of the morning.
Vicky better than Beltran – hahahahahaha.
Alex.422 probably isn’t even a Mets fan. What next? Is he going to try to convince people that Shane Victorino is better than Carlos Beltran?”
i’m also not bias like some of you, and about beltran, everyone here knows i’m a full supporter of his from the momment he put on the mets jersey..
i agree with you to a certain extent… just cant blame the guy to be negative after hwats happened last 2 years
i however really do believe Citi will be fresh start for us && our rotation will be solid, our offense will be steady, bullpen amazing, murphy will come to his own
METS !
JJ Putz already started throwing in St. Lucie on Friday. He was there around 8:30 in the morning.
I go to college in West Palm Beach and spend the weekends working with my uncle in St. Lucie and I was getting a cup of coffee before work at 7-11 in St. Lucie West and I saw Guy Conti the bullpen coach for the Mets getting a cup of coffee too and he told me Putz was down there throwing right now. I wish I didn’t have work or else I would hav been down there. I swung by Sunday morning but nobody was there working out.
Update to David Lennon’s blog:
Santana: “I fell fine”
Johan Santana just finished throwing 18 pitches during a relaxed bullpen session.
While Santana insists nothing has been decided regarding the WBC, he also said that this is “an important year for our team and I’m an important part of the team.”
That’s for sure. Santana is basically awaiting the arrival of GM Omar Minaya later this week to pull the plug.
Hmmm……’Santana insists nothing has been decided regarding the WBC’..???
Hmmmm…………
love the fire.
opening day …
santana 7ip 2er 6k’s
Putz 1ip 0er 2k’s
Krod 1ip 0er 1k && the save
mets win 5-2
i cant wait…
the Reds ALWAYS give us problems.
they seem a little weaker on offense…this year
Volquez, we actually handled pretty well last year =]]
Anything will be better than 2005 (Pedro’s first start as a Met striking out 12 only to have Looper give up a walk off bomb)
or maybe that 0-5 start we had..
Yeah, that was pretty bad. Another bad memory was that one game where Looper blew 2 saves in one game (one in the 9th, and one in the 10th).
Where’s Mr. Re-dedication?
