Note: Players already in St. Lucie

By Matthew Cerrone on Feb 10, 2009, 9:03 am

Mets pitchers and catchers are required to report to Tradition Field by Friday.

However, David Wright, Johan Santana, John Maine, Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, Ryan Church, Brian Schneider, Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans are already in camp working out, while Sean Green and J.J. Putz, among others, are likely to report in the next day or so.

by the way, SNY will be broadcasting Mets Hot Stove live from Duffy’s in Port St. Lucie this Thursday, Feb. 12, as well as next Thursday, Feb. 19, at 7 pm

…also, the following Friday, Feb. 27, will be my last night in St. Lucie… the Mets play at 1 pm against the Cardinals at Tradition Field… so, if any one is still in town, and interested in doing a MetsBlog Get-Together on that night, let me know in an e-mail

What is a good hotel to book while in PSL? I want to go down there in two weeks? Beyond Duffy’s, are there any other Mets night activities?

There are no bad hotel in PSL and they book up pretty fast. If your going with a group (three or four) I suggest you try one of the PGA villages ( Sheraton) where you can rent a townhouse and split it or look for time share rentals for the week. If you cant find anything in PSL within reason ($$) you might want to try Fort pierce its only five minute drive to PSL the hotels are much cheaper -but it is what it is -an industrial, blue collar town with loads of truck reststops. Safe but nowhere near as nice as PSL.

As far as night life…Jensen Beach (RIGHT next to PSL) has a nice strip of bars/restaurants to choose from

It’s nice to see some positivity other then the usual: Omar is enept, Cora was over-payed, the offense is full of ?’s and of coarse that outfielder.

I’m very optimistic heading into this year. The bullpen is sound and has lots of depth. Something the mets haven’t had….thinking….thinking…. oh yeah EVER. And I know they didn’t get their #2, but they actually have depth in case of injury or that dreaded spot start. No more Nelson Figeurora’s or the like.

Johan’s session is under way. Newsday’s Davis Lennon is covering it, while writing:

Johan Santana is on a mound for the first time since his October knee surgery and joining him on the bullpen six-pack here this morning is Duaner Sanchez and Oliver Perez.

Its only been a few pitches, but so far, so good. No one has hobbled off the mound yet.

Lennon also does a write-up on why Delgado should be angry at A-Rod, who edged him out for the 2003 AL MVP Award.

        That’s just crazy talk.

If they were both the same age, you may have a valid argument.

But I’ll take the 26 yr old Wright EVERY TIME over the 34 yr old A-Rod.

the chose, when david wright accomplished what this man did at 31 we can talk.. the best player of our era wether he used steroids or not, i’ll take him over D-WRIGHT any day, oh and at 26, ALEX had 57 HOME RUNS!

well he did use roids…but anyway, how long do you think arod can sustain his offenseive production…wright isnt even in his prime yet. I take wright

After each of their first 4 full seasons, A-Rod hit 142 HR’s, while Wright collected 130.

I respect your opinion, and your love for A-Rod, but don’t act like Wright is some push-over. He’s great in his own (w)right!!

u remember that interview wit joe b in the fan? when joe said u had like 53 rbi’s after the 7th inning and d-wright’s like “oh, no is 54″?? please.. i’d take ALEX ROID-RIGUEZ ahead of any met right now!! except santana

        OUCH! Are you serious?

alex, go check out ARod’s “clutch” numbers…and I think he is something like 0-for-his-last 20-something in the postseason with men on base!

Not to mention Wright’s infinitely better personality, age difference, and total lack of A-Fraud’s self-promotional attitude.

Read the Torre book…it is VERY illuminating on a LOT of topics. A great and educational read for any true baseball fan.

HE didn’t make the playoffs – the team did. And in post season, his numbers are horrible. They’ve never won a WS with him.
Now that he has to get off the juice, that stat isn’t likely to get better.

Unless it’s proven that DWright is also using, he’s the better choice. Natural talent over an artificial, inflated one. W/o the juice ARod will come back down to earth.

ARod’s fragile ego alone makes him the poor choice….

PECOTA predictions were released. They have the Mets winning the East, with 93 games. That’s five games ahead of the Phillies and Braves. The interesting part about this, they have the Phillies and the Braves dead even.

Yup. They still are favored – not that it means anything – on paper – lol.

I’ve got a $20 ticket from the line at Vegas the Mets win the WS. It’s at 8-1 odds. Last I checked, after the ticket was bought, they’re now down to 7-1.

JJ Putz already started throwing in St. Lucie on Friday. He was there around 8:30 in the morning.

I go to college in West Palm Beach and spend the weekends working with my uncle in St. Lucie and I was getting a cup of coffee before work at 7-11 in St. Lucie West and I saw Guy Conti the bullpen coach for the Mets getting a cup of coffee too and he told me Putz was down there throwing right now. I wish I didn’t have work or else I would hav been down there. I swung by Sunday morning but nobody was there working out.

    Update to David Lennon’s blog:

    Santana: “I fell fine”

Johan Santana just finished throwing 18 pitches during a relaxed bullpen session.

While Santana insists nothing has been decided regarding the WBC, he also said that this is “an important year for our team and I’m an important part of the team.”

That’s for sure. Santana is basically awaiting the arrival of GM Omar Minaya later this week to pull the plug.
