I can’t wait untill the season starts

shinjosplints17 February 12, 2009 at 5:46 pm

I’m not liking it, I go to citizen bank ballpark at least 10 times a year and it looks like the same stadium. can’t tell about the concourses but the field looks too much the same as every new stadium

ItsOurYear February 12, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Thats because I think the same designers developed the stadiums.

nyleetch2 February 12, 2009 at 5:12 pm

looks like theres still alot of work to do as far as building all the stores, adding the final amenities and cleaning everything up, with 49 days left til the first citi field game (the first of two exhibition games at citi against the red sox on April 3rd). Not to mention tearing down the final remains of shea, cleaning out all the rubble and paving over it, and adding lights for the new parking lot…

still, i’m itchin’ for some baseball.

It’s exciting. It kinda has a Citizens Bank feel about it. Thats not a bad thing though.

Cool pics.

I am excited about the new season as well.

However, I am also nervous. I again purchased a full season package, however I was forced to commit before knowing what the view will be from my seats.

At Shea I had a great view from Mezzanine Boxes area pretty much directly behind home plate.

At Citi, although I have basically the same angle behind the plate I am now on the top level (that is where all mezzanine holders got pushed). So, it looks like I will be farther from the field, since the top level has the field level, loge level and suites and sight line gaps below it.

Needless to say, I am concerned I will feel too far away from the field. What makes it worse, with the farther out location I also had a 10 percent increase in ticket price. So if I am not happy with the seats, it may be a long season!.

Don’t be…. no one who ever attended a single game at Shea will ever feel ‘farther’ from the action in this stadium. Shea’s design was a joke if you’re talking about being close to the action.

It’s a bit buried, but on the mets web site, they have a 3d image map of all the sections of Citi. Click on your section to see a rendering of the view. To get to the 3C map. click on Tickets, buy season tickets, click on the seat map, then click on the “see a detailed interactive map” underneath the large seating chart.

Also, as I recall, they used to have a side-by-side cross section comparison of Shea and Citi’s elevation,. and the top of the Citi Field’s upper deck was roughly equivalent to the top of the mezz at Shea…MAYBE the front of the old Shea upper tank, so overall, you should be closer.

*”3D”

NewYorkMetfanatic62 February 12, 2009 at 5:28 pm

the team store at Citi Field is real nice and big.

keystonetom February 12, 2009 at 5:29 pm

Looks to me that there will be a lot more space behind the sections to move around, get a beer.

gipper82475 February 12, 2009 at 5:37 pm

Concourse widths at Citi:

46 ft (Concourse – main- level)
40 ft (Promenade – upper – level)

At Shea, the concourse widths were:

23 ft (field level)
18 ft (loge level)
25 ft (Mezz level)
18 ft (Uppder Deck)

Plus, at Citi, you can walk all the way around the stadium on the concourse, and see the field from the concourse. Having been to places like Chase Field in AZ that have the same sort of concourses, that is a cool feature.

keystonetom February 12, 2009 at 5:45 pm

Wow. I had no idea there was that much difference. I think we will all forget about Shea pretty quickly.

gipper82475 February 12, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Go to the mets web site, click on Citi Field, then on “Side-by-side comparison” for more detailed numbers. It will be a vast improvement

dave27 February 12, 2009 at 5:31 pm

That Pepsi sign is cool. Plenty of signage for Citi.

Um…does it say “Mets” anywhere?

This was interesting, until it made me nauseous. Looks like the Blair Wilpon Project.

nyleetch2 February 12, 2009 at 5:52 pm

it said mets on the sides of some of the rows of seats (and citi field on others…) but i imagine most of the mets signage will be some of the last stuff to go up. If nothing else, they probably want to wait til some of the harsher weather is gone so theres less of a chance that the ballpark doesnt look brand new on opening day.

swirlywand February 12, 2009 at 5:33 pm

i’m going to cry!!! I’m suddenly (again) SOOO EXCITED for the season! ahhhh

gipper82475 February 12, 2009 at 8:18 pm

There’s no crying in baseball.

MainStMets February 12, 2009 at 5:51 pm

the idea of baseball being back very soon is very conforting to me, the way i felt after the team lost the last game of the year left me miserable and longing for the season to start ASAP

cant lie, the off season moved along pretty fast, so it wasnt too bad, but i can only imagine how short it must feel to a world series winning fan, since their season ends in nov almost lol

starz31 February 12, 2009 at 5:56 pm

nice to get a good look inside…but the camera work was a tease…the guy kept panning back and forth, zooming in at odd times, never giving the viewer any time to see something. Sorry to complain.

NewYorkMetfanatic62 February 12, 2009 at 6:00 pm

From talking to someone who has done constuction on Citi Field, Mets fans will be very happy with the new park. The bathrooms are much bigger, the variety of foods, the leg room and the most important thing, the fans are closer to the field with no bad seat in the house.

kannerr February 12, 2009 at 6:13 pm

Generic, generic, generic. Where is the soul? Looks cheap.

CaseStreet February 12, 2009 at 6:13 pm

I can’t wait to run on the field when the Mets Win the World Series!

grotesmask February 12, 2009 at 7:43 pm

Man, was that some bad camera work or what!

Thanks for the nausea. Please don’t let this man wield a video camera again.

So far I have yet to see anything about Citifield that doesn’t make me pine for Big Shea. Alas!

mextache February 12, 2009 at 9:59 pm

Agreed…worst video ever. Made me dizzy watching and turned it off less than a minute in.

Burn_Philly_Down February 12, 2009 at 8:22 pm

I dont get how the new yankee stadium looks done, but citi looks like its at least 3 months away??

SaveusOmar February 12, 2009 at 9:59 pm

Can’t wait for opening day!!! Stadium looks great!!! Now the question is who gets to throw out the first pitch?

mikenice15 February 13, 2009 at 3:15 am

Where did you learn how to use a camera? I was naseous halfway through the video. Looks like a nice park though. I can’t wait to see castillo hit one out.

Peter February 13, 2009 at 8:47 am

I didn’t see the NY Skyline from the old scoreboard anywhere. Wasn’t that supposed to be a part of Citi? I hope so . . .
