SNY’s Kevin Burkhardt sent in a text saying Freddy
Garcia has arrived in camp, adding, “He looks to be in good shape and is getting loose with Johan Santana and Oliver Perez,” as you can see in the image.
According to Burkhardt, Santana appears to be in a great mood and completely at ease, saying, “I’ve seen no indication that his knee is anything but totally healthy.”
To hear more from Burkhardt, and see clips from the day’s action in St. Lucie, watch SportsNite on SNY every night at 10 pm.

IF healthy he can help to a long man..
If he’s healthy enough to be in the majors, he’ll be in the rotation and Redding will be the long man.
If hes healthy and effective he’ll start and Redding will be the long man. Garcia has never been a reliever before. And his track record as a starter has been pretty successful.
wow, u guys are really optimistic or i’m just blind, this guy has pitch 69 inning in the past 2 years.. how is he gonna be healthy?? is not only knees problems u know..
You’re the one who said “IF healthy.” The rest of us merely pointed out that IF he was healthy he would start, rather than relieve.
If your mind was healthy, you might be able to type one comment on here per day that even came close to resembling a complete coherent sentence.
hey darkstar, my favorite fan..
you apparently are not as big a fan of the english language as i am of you
i can always speak spanish if u prefer.. MAMAGUEVO!
Scratch this post, folks. Alex has now decided that Freddy is a “bum.”
Ollie and Johan seem to hang together a lot now. They were a twosome in the best ball golf match among the Mets players yesterday. (The Idea of Ollie on the golf course makes me laugh.)
What I’m hoping is that Johan can take Ollie under his wing this year and try to impart some of his methods and thinking. Johan was probably too preoccupied last year getting used to a new team/city/league to pay too much attention to Ollie. Hopefully he can have a positive impact on him this year.
And, with Ollie a pending FA, maybe he figured that it was a waste of time!
Now that they are going to be together for the next 3 years, make Johan his official “big brother”
if Ollie ever harnessed his change up and turned it into a good pitch (maybe santana can help?) he’d be a hell of a lot better of a pitcher.
I agree Vcarver, was thinking the same thing. I think it is great that Ollie is following around Johan. Only good things can happen from picking Johan Santana’s brain when you are a young let handed pitcher. And indeed, it is comical picturing Ollie playing golf.
Freddy Garcia healthy is much better than your average #5, or #4 for that matter.
With Redding, then Niese, ready to step up, I like the depth we now have.
I agree, Garcia was a very solid pitcher for the M’s and Sox’s above average pitcher actually. After he went to the Phils he got hurt hence why he only has pitched 69 innings in the last two years.
If he is healthy and can get back to his old form the Mets got a steal because again go look at his numbers. Pretty solid if you ask me.
Do you smell what Freddy is cookin?
Finally, the Freddy has come back to…..
PORT ST LUCIE
/ if your comment wasn’t a “rock” reference then the above is meaningless
Of course it was a Rock reference!
I hope Garcia is healthy cause if so he can help
Read that Redding expects to be a starter. Hope that doesnt cause problems if they want him in the pen
With Garcia’s injuries the long relief role may be a good thing for him actually
Stokes may be bumped which is a bummer for him. You have to think they will get a 2nd lefty even if they don’t sign someone…..one of the FA veteran journey men
I’ve reald quotes from him this A.M. stating that he is just happy to be on a competitor, and that he has no problem being in the pen, or being moved to a starting/one inning role in case of injury.
