Paul Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer had choice
words for the Mets, and Phillies RHP Bret Myers responded to Francisco Rodriguez’s team-to-beat statement, according to the Adam Rubin of the Daily News.
… i can tell from the e-mail people send me that they expect me to be all hot and bothered by this stuff… but, the fact is, i just don’t care… the Phillies can say whatever they want… and we, and the team, need to take it… the only way it stops is by the Mets winning… end of story… so, K-Rod, and whomever else wants to talk smack from Tradition Field, zip it… please, prove your value on the field with actions, not words…

Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post believes the Mets are not interested in free-agent C Ivan Rodriguez, and aren’t talking to him about a contract, according to a high-ranking team source.
Yesterday, the Associated Press said Rodriguez might soon sign with the Marlins, Astros or Mets.
Last week, an anonymous source in El Nuevo Dia said Rodriguez prefers the Mets to the Astros, while the Marlins were never mentioned.
The word from around Shea Stadium is that the final piece of the building could drop some time this week.
As it is, there is basically one section left standing. That’s it.

Tom Glavine, writes Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com.
According to Rosenthal, the one-year, $1 million deal, with millions more in incentives, could be finalized today.
Rosenthal believes the deal could include deferred payments, which would help Atlanta acquire a left-handed hitting outfielder, such as Ken Griffey Jr. or Garret Anderson.
In 13 starts for the Braves last season, the 42–year-old Glavine was 2–4 with a 5.54 ERA in 63 innings.

Yesterday, Jerry Manuel told reporters Luis Castillo will arrive to Tradition Field today.
“I plan to spend a lot of time with him in spring training,” Manuel said. “He’s a guy that I’m going to do everything I can to get him going… It will be a little fun project for me.”
I’m rooting for Luis Castillo.
I will not lie, I wanted the Mets to trade him this past off-season, and I’m sure they tried. But, it’s March, and like it or not, he will be given the opportunity to lose the starting second baseman job for the team I love and root for – and I’m not sure Alex Cora is the answer, either.
So, for now, I’m going to do my best to forget 2008. I’m going to buy in to Manuel’s hype, and his tailor-made program for Castillo. I’m going to forget his injuries, and his ‘gimpyness,’ and trust Castillo is healthy.
When Castillo was acquired in 2007, I thought it was a well-played move. He hit .296 with a .371 OBP.
‘Slappy McSingleton,’ as he has been called, would need only a few minutes to nudge Reyes to third base with one out. It was a classic Move-the-Line, Get-em-On, Get-em-Over, Get-em-In offense, which is just what this team needs today. I would love nothing more than to see that happen again, if for no other reason than I have always been a fan of scrappy, small-ball style players – and, at his best, that is what Castillo can be.
I have my doubts, of course. I mean, who doesn’t? But, it’s sunny in Florida, people are smiling, the past is behind us all, and I’m happy to have real-life baseball back, so I’m hoping Castillo succeeds.
