Tom Kaminski’s Chopper 880 took pictures of the final remains of Shea Stadium which you can see at WCBS880.com.

A rumor has it that the stadium will be completely down by tomorrow, but this has not yet been confirmed.

I just got a chill up my spine thinking about it.
Gone.
Wow, what a sorry sight. Its like having an older relative you idolized only to see him wind up in a nursing home.
I think the nursing home part was the last 10 years in that park.
I’ve said my goodbyes…time to move on!
True Dat!
Good riddance. It was long overdue.
I couldn’t agree with you more. So long Shea, hello Citi Field!!!!
Wow, look at those unobstructed views. ;)
I showed the Shea pics this weekend to my wife. She doesn’t know anything about baseball. She kept saying how sad it is to see it go. I don’t get it though.
I have memories of Shea stadium that are memorable. I last lived in NYC in 1973 and a little part of 1976. Whenever I could get back to see a game I would go. Last time I was there was 2004. I don’t think its sad to see it go though.
It has good memories for me and they will be romanticized with time. This new stadium will be a new part of the Mets history.
As it is, memories tend to be sweeter than the reality.
Its time to move on.
Echoing murdertron above, i got chills up my spine as well. As ready as I am to move on, I’ll miss OUR dump.
It might take me a while to get use to having Shea gone…won’t be the same, too many memories. I’ll miss you mustard Mascot!!
While it was time for it to go, it is hard when you grow up and mature as a fan of a sport to see it go. My first memories of being a baseball fan are now a part of history that cannot be revisited. I did enjoying seeing games there at least once every other year because it felt like I was walking back to when I was eight or nine years old.
And seeing your team win the World Series when you are a ten year old is about the best feeling a fan could ever imagine. Never did I think that I would be in my 30′s and still not feel that tingling again. Sadly, as time goes by and my world becomes smaller, I doubt that the next one will feel anywhere near what the last one did. The world is just not as simple and joys not as pure as they were.
But…a new tradition begins and I am excited to already have tickets to a game this summer. Even if it is on the Pepsi porch.
Agreed Pike, I was 11 in 86….and it has been too darn long. Maybe the new place will bring some new, better mojo.
I understand the happiness for moving into Citi field but I’m always going to have a part of me miss Shea..like marvelousmarv said it will always be “our dump” :)
Between 11 am and 1 pm tomorrow, Shea will be down.
adieu, old friend- ” memories like a shadow on the wall….. misty covered memories of the way we were……. Now we Need Sinatra to sing there used to be a ball park right here.
Im actually wiping a tear away. I have followed the demoltion on the net as photos came up and now reality is hitting
Leaving Shea for the last time after Game 162 was pretty sad, but I’m very excited to go to games at Citi Field.
