John Hickey of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports, free-agent OF Ken Griffey Jr. has agreed to a incentive-laden one-year, $2 million contract with the Mariners.
Griffey, who batted .249 with 18 HR and 71 RBI last season with the Reds and White Sox, returns to Mariners, where he spent the first 11 years of his career, after a nine-year hiatus with the Reds and White Sox.
…glad to see griffey back where he started…i’m a sucker for these types of sentimental things…

Tagged Mike Nichols |The car I’m in that is driving to JFK airport just went by Citi Field, and, as you know, there was no Shea Stadium.
There was nothing but Citi Field.
Very, very weird.
As a kid, I remember being all excited to drive by Shea on the highway, seeing it empty in the distance. It as comforting. Sort of like this special place full of potential great moments, just waiting to pull me from reality.
So, to drive by today, despite seeing the impressive new stadium standing tall, I was a tad sad and lonely to see Shea missing from the horizon.

Earlier this morning Mets SS Jose Reyes met the media as he arrived at Mets Camp in Port St. Lucie.
Among the questions Reyes was asked about included a response to recent comments from Phillies LHP Cole Hamels, in which he called the Mets “choke artists.”
Reyes, as quoted by reporters earlier today:
“We don’t worry about Philly. I don’t know why they worry so much about the New York Mets
. They can talk about whatever they want to, because we worry about us. They are the one to win the World Series, not us, and we don’t say nothing about them. We just say congratulations to the Phillies. We focus on them when we play them, but they always seem like they’re talking something about us, and I don’t know why.”
Reyes, on learning about the Phillies criticism of his homerun celebrations, speaking to reporters this morning:
“I heard that. I don’t know why they say that, because I’m not the only one pimpin’ when I hit a home run. A lot of people do that. People from Philadelphia, too. They stand for a couple of seconds at home plate and nobody say nothing. So like I said, I don’t know why they’re so focused on us. We just worry about us.”
…good for reyes…
…i’ve never understood why philly sports fans in general worry about new york teams…it seems as if they enjoy more rooting against new york teams than rooting for their own teams…you would think after winning the world series they would stop worrying about the Mets…even during their victory celebration Chase Utley insulted the Mets…philly really needs to get over their inferiority complex, and as reyes says, worry about themselves…
