i think the next time jose goes into philly he will need a bullet proof vest – not under armor lol – mitch williams is such a tool
i hate jon heyman….he always seems to think hes a big know it all arrogant son of a gun….ken rosenthal is the man..lol…i really cant wait for the season to start…mets are going to put the phillies in their place…that whole run was a fluke…i could have told you they were going to beat the rays before they started the series..
Rollins is a piece of crap. Who was the one that cannot let go of the Mets? Who was the one that talked about the Mets during and after the WS?
Hamels: “They have a new stadium. I know I’m anxious just as much as my teammates are to get up there. It looks like a good team. Should be good competition. It’s nice to go out there and see red shirts and the support they bring us. It does get good entertainment value for the fans back home.”
Interesting, b/c last time I checked, Mets fans sellout about half the stadium in Philly when the 2 teams meet.
LOSER MUTS FANS: Enjoy your 80-82 season. Always nice looking down from the top. With a strong start you clowns might finish 3rd in the East. At least you won’t have to worry about choking in September. It will be long over by then. I’ll miss those sad, stupid faces in the stands on the last game ot the year. PHILLIES RULE! By the way, Queens is “The Toilet Bowl of America”!
I can’t wait ’till the season starts. Bring it on phillies…Give it your best shot – we’re ready.
Its not that I think the mets deserve to be ranked best for off season, it just certainly should not be the Phillies. If they had brought in a couple of quaality pitchers or one stud pitcher then i would say yes, the phillies did have the best off season. Still, I guess when you are the reining WS champion you get off not needing to make that many improvements
To be fair, the Phils mentioned 4 teams during their championship celebration….the Mets, the Brewers, the Dodgers and the Rays. It’s only because of what clips you caught and where you live that it sounds like they only talked about the Mets.
I think players on both teams should shut up. It’s ridiculous.
It’s not like these are the two most legendary and successful franchises in baseball…
Philadelphia did not improve. Locking up two players means nothing. Raul Ibanez for Pat Burrell is just as even as it gets. For them to be ranked number one is absurd. I think Heyman is secretly hated by every other baseball writer out there.
speaking of tools look what john heyman had to write when ranking mlb teams offseasons
. Phillies: The world champions did an amazing job locking up their best young players, getting both Cole Hamels and Ryan Howard under contract for three years to avoid the arbitration process that blew up on them last year when Howard won an unprecedented $10 million as a first-year arbitration-eligible player. By all accounts Raul Ibanez will be great for the clubhouse and lineup — though a right-handed hitter might have made a little more sense.
2. Mets: A run at M-a-n-n-y R-a-m-ir-e-z would have made them the kings of the winter. But while they’ll hope Fernando Tatis and Daniel Murphy can form a viable platoon in left field and apparently also that Luis Castillo can spring to life (Jerry Manuel wisely is already making him feel better by saying he might get some leadoff at-bats), they did plenty to overhaul a pitching staff in need. Importing two stud closers — the record-setting Francisco Rodriguez and J.J. Putz — within 48 hours saved their winter. Plus, they not only brought back talented (but inconsistent) lefty Oliver Perez but gave themselves plenty of options at the back end of the rotation by adding Tim Redding, Freddy Garcia and Livan Hernandez.
what about phillies starting rotation!!!???!!! that guy dislikes the mets with a pa$$ion
Thanks for saving me the trouble of surfing to this. He does have a high tool quotient going on with this summary. And what does “a run at M-a-n-n-y” even mean. So if they did the dance and failed it would have made their offseason successful because they took a run at him? What a load of …. fill in your favorite expletive.
phillie fcks resigned 83 yr old jamie moyer to 2 yr deal worth 16mil along with 200 cases of viagra and 10 walkers
I agree. As far as i can tell Phillie did not do that much to improve their team…just maintain their team. I don’t know if that makes them off season winners. Ibanez is a great bat to bring in, but with Utley missing the first half of the season it seems to me they are running in palce. Besides, hitting was not the Phillies problem last year…and yes if they did plan on working on the hitting they could have brought in a right handed bat w/o over spending on Ibanez….
Now the mets, though they could have done more, DID in fact compensate for their biggest problem last year.
…giraffe vomit.
And anytime you lose a GM like Pat Gillick there is no way you can call your off season an improvement. I’m sorry that guy is too good.
The Phillies didn’t improve, at best they can try and call their offseason a wash. They signed extensions of some of their own (But failed to buy out any free agency years for either Howard or Hamels so other then saving the headache of arbitration it doesn’t accomplish much), they re-signed Moyer, Ibanez “replaces” Burrell (I believe that’s a downgrade, but I’ll be nice and call it a wash).
Other then that, their offseason is what, Chan Ho Park? But I guess when you’re the defending champs you can get away with that being your big move.
Phils say Utley is on track to be ready for Opening Day. I doubt it… but it’s likely he’ll only miss a couple of weeks at most. Maybe 15 games… not half the season.
Pedro Feliz, on the other hand, likely will miss more time… and JC Romero is out for the first 50 games.
