Philadelphia did not improve. Locking up two players means nothing. Raul Ibanez for Pat Burrell is just as even as it gets. For them to be ranked number one is absurd. I think Heyman is secretly hated by every other baseball writer out there.

I think players on both teams should shut up. It's ridiculous.

It's not like these are the two most legendary and successful franchises in baseball...

To be fair, the Phils mentioned 4 teams during their championship celebration....the Mets, the Brewers, the Dodgers and the Rays. It's only because of what clips you caught and where you live that it sounds like they only talked about the Mets.

Phils say Utley is on track to be ready for Opening Day. I doubt it... but it's likely he'll only miss a couple of weeks at most. Maybe 15 games... not half the season.

Pedro Feliz, on the other hand, likely will miss more time... and JC Romero is out for the first 50 games.

Its not that I think the mets deserve to be ranked best for off season, it just certainly should not be the Phillies. If they had brought in a couple of quaality pitchers or one stud pitcher then i would say yes, the phillies did have the best off season. Still, I guess when you are the reining WS champion you get off not needing to make that many improvements

The Phillies didn't improve, at best they can try and call their offseason a wash. They signed extensions of some of their own (But failed to buy out any free agency years for either Howard or Hamels so other then saving the headache of arbitration it doesn't accomplish much), they re-signed Moyer, Ibanez "replaces" Burrell (I believe that's a downgrade, but I'll be nice and call it a wash).

Other then that, their offseason is what, Chan Ho Park? But I guess when you're the defending champs you can get away with that being your big move.

LOSER MUTS FANS: Enjoy your 80-82 season. Always nice looking down from the top. With a strong start you clowns might finish 3rd in the East. At least you won't have to worry about choking in September. It will be long over by then. I'll miss those sad, stupid faces in the stands on the last game ot the year. PHILLIES RULE! By the way, Queens is "The Toilet Bowl of America"!

And anytime you lose a GM like Pat Gillick there is no way you can call your off season an improvement. I'm sorry that guy is too good.

I agree. As far as i can tell Phillie did not do that much to improve their team...just maintain their team. I don't know if that makes them off season winners. Ibanez is a great bat to bring in, but with Utley missing the first half of the season it seems to me they are running in palce. Besides, hitting was not the Phillies problem last year...and yes if they did plan on working on the hitting they could have brought in a right handed bat w/o over spending on Ibanez....

Now the mets, though they could have done more, DID in fact compensate for their biggest problem last year.
