    Ted:

How can I save that to Facebook?

  2. Mitch45 says:

Who are those dopes cheering in the background?

    • Johan4Cy says:

i wouldnt call them dopes. they are probably construction workers (or destruction) who have been working on getting rid of shea for months. their mission is now complete

      • gipper82475 says:

Exactlly,, these guys have been working for months in tearing down a huge structure like Shea and trying to do it without damaging Citi and with no injuries/deaths to people.

They should cheer. Job well done. Plus, as a Mets fan. I’d probably cheer the end of Shea anyway…it was OUR dump…but it WAS a dump!

        • lagranderusty10 says:

agreed gip – i just wish there was some way to preserve it you know like i believe bmf said – a solitary standing wall in the middle of the parking lot

  3. KickedintheMetsiclesAgain says:

It represents the final breath taken by the stadium. I would like to preserve it.

  4. enterkrod says:

wow..thats honestly pretty cool…kind of like a new era…out with the old in with the new….which of course includes a world series title this year!!

  5. dontstopbelieving says:

It wouldn’t have collapsed like that if it had a better bullpen :)

  6. Mitch45 says:

Some people look at Shea and see Gil, Davey, ‘69 and ‘86.

I look at Shea and I see them as well, but I also see some darker people and things that hopefully are buried forever with Shea: M. Donald Grant, Joe Torre, George Bamberger, George Foster, Juan Samuel, Jeff Torborg, Bobby Bonilla (both times), Vince Coleman, Bret Saberhagen, “Generation K”, firecrackers, bleach, stinky bathrooms, overflowing toilets, malfunctioning scoreboards, Game 5 of the Subway Series, Art Howe, Roberto Alomar, Mo Vaughn, Steve Phillips and many, many others.

    • its_daniel_damnit says:

amen. For some of us, like me, Shea is great and holds dear memories because its where I saw my first game – first playoff game, etc. That being said, I can’t help but feel a slight sense of “good riddance” given I wasn’t around to enjoy the good times Shea offered. Yes by good times I mean WS.

      • loopenark says:

I agree. And I was there for the good times. Onward and upward. The cycle of life, etc. Gotta say, though, that the last piece coming down isn’t so dramatic. Would have been cooler had they blown up the stadium like they show on TV.

  7. cjr126 says:

maybe we can finally move on and shed these horrible memories of the past few years and turn the page to a brighter future.

i will miss shea stadium and will have a ton of fond memories but it is definitely time to look ahead because ain’t nothing going to stop us now.

  8. MrMet05 says:

    Good-Bye Shea =*(

  9. Elastic says:

    Goodbye old girl. :(

    Hello new bathrooms.

  10. ProudMetFan says:

    Now its really a dump.

  11. ATI says:

    Ted Berg is the greatest.

  12. metsrbest says:

And that’s that. And nothing could be done about it.

  13. Joe Bacci says:

My brother sent this to me just now, i don’t know where it came from or who wrote it but as soon as i find out i’ll be sure to give the author his proper credit.

    Dear Shea,

As you lay here on life support, I only hope you’re able to hear me.
Forgive me for waiting so long to visit; I tried my hardest to stay away, the thought of seeing you in your present condition was a little too heavy for me to bear.
But as I looked at these pictures of you on Matt Cerrone’s Mets blog, I knew I was running out of time to say all the things I’ve wanted to say.

You’ve known me for a long time, almost 21 years now. I know to you I’m probably just one of your endless millions of visitors, stopping by just long enough to say hello, and leave you a little dirtier than the day before. But I wanted to come and see you one last time, before you move on to a better place, and tell you that you were much more to me than a pile of bricks and concrete, so much more than just a place to see a ballgame.

You’re the place where I fell in love with the sport all those years ago, in spite of the abominable collections of tenants you housed through my formative years as a fan.
People whined even then about how your makeup was always smudged, and your wrinkles worsening seemingly by the day, but that never mattered to me.
So what if you smelled funny and always had lipstick on your teeth? You were still the most welcoming sight to these eyes each and every summer.

As I grew older, your importance began to reach different corners of my life. You served as my barometer for the opposite sex, the deciding factor in any relationship.
One significant other refused to visit you, and as you can guess, we’ve been broken up for nearly three years now. And I knew my current squeeze was a keeper when she not only jumped at the chance to drop by, but even donned the jersey from my favorite member of your most recent inhabitants, the one wearing number five.

So I guess what I’m really trying to say, is thank you. Thank you for showing me a girl that won’t meet you is no girl for me.

Thank you for letting Officer Justin Crowell and I play catch on the outskirts of your property, and for being the place that connected us.
Our stays in your green mezzanine
seats created an invaluable friendship, meaning more than any words could ever do justice.

And most of all, thank you for being one of the only things that could bring out the 12-year-old boy in my father. He keeps his emotions close to the vest most of the time, but they always shined through for a few short hours when we came to see you, and for that I am forever grateful.

Your replacement may be more aesthetically pleasing, but it will never take the spot you hold in the hearts of Mets fans everywhere. I’ll take my children there some day, and I can only hope it will teach them as much as you’ve taught me. So in your final days, take solace in the fact there are millions of stories just like mine, and even if they haven’t told you, though you’ll be gone in a few days, you’ll never be forgotten.

  14. metsfanmurph says:

I am glad it is finally down so I can stop reading about it on here.

  15. lagranderusty10 says:

  16. lagranderusty10 says:

    • CaseStreet says:

      Stop the fascism!

Rusty, are you using FireFox? If so, try using Internet Explorer.

      • lagranderusty10 says:

no im on i.e it first happened on my cell phone – then some of my older posts from the day were being deleted – not even moderation

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

          that’s just crazy.
Love all the posts but I think SNY should spring for an IT tech for this site to keep it running smoothly…

  17. Staubfan says:

Good bye Shea. Your memories will last forever.

  18. Johan4Cy says:

i cant wait to go to games at the new stadium. you can see the game while buying food and stuff. there is also more leg room and bigger bathrooms. and a world series team…

  19. Metfreak says:

I can’t wait until the season starts I had enough with this A-Rod stuff all over the radio and T.V

    • lagranderusty10 says:

i know my first home date is the sat against the brewers i believe – apr 17th (its a sat)

  20. m29w_12789 says:

Now what do they need in Citi-field
    1. Statues of Seaver & Piazza
    2. A remember Shea Walkway
    3. Rusty’s BBQ Pit , ala what Camden Yards did for Boog Powell, having Boog’s BBQ

    • lagranderusty10 says:

hows about a statue of rusty in front of a rusty’s ribs – now thats an honor!!

    • CaseStreet says:

      How about Pedro’s Mangu

      • lagranderusty10 says:

falcone’s falaffel yummy yoeman”s (remember floy’d yeoumans) or howz about a bobby v’s lol

    • Hazmet says:

I like your idea’s. I was thinking also of having Swoboda’s catch, Endy’s catch, and the pile on from the ‘86 WS clinch. Dial in the aproximate GPS coordinates and locate them where they happened. A horizontal statue of Swoboda’s catch I think would look pretty cool.

  21. m29w_12789 says:

It might be before your time but Bullpen Coach Joe Pignatano had tomato plants in the bullpen. LOL –
I am serious about the Rusty’s rIbs station. I think Stargell had a BBQ Pit in their new stadium , so does Boog Powell now

    • Hazmet says:

And for fast food they could have Ryan’s Express and maybe get Nolan to remember he was a Met at one time. Oh, I forgot at least he’s got his only ring to remember us by.

  22. lagranderusty10 says:

l i just found out at the most recent post you have to go all voldermort on his name lol

  23. CaseStreet says:

    yeah, I wonder why
