Note, Prof. Reyes, Manuel’s Windshield
By Matthew Cerrone - Feb 26, 2009 3:58 pm

Jose Reyes told reporters he is bringing back the Prof. Reyes Spanish lessons to Citi Field this season.

Reyes said he has yet to speak with Jerry Manuel about batting third, but he is willing to do whatever is asks of him.

Reyes hit third today and had two home runs.

Lastly, Manuel’s Cadillac got hit by a foul ball, that skipped from the stadium in to the player’s lot, cracking his windshield.

I hope it was Hanley Ramirez, as it would be one more reason to not like him.

For other post-game information, including quotes from Jerry Manuel, check out Adam Rubin’s blog for the Daily News.

i wonder if he’s gonna have to pay the rental car company for that

  2. TheChosen1 says:

‘Gangstas on the field, Ladies fix my windshield’

  3. LadyMet says:

If the team keeps playing like this, we’d be happy to fix the windshield.

  4. NYMETSFAN718 says:

Dont worry, Geico sponsors the Mets, they’ll fix it for free

    • number15 says:

think of all the money jerry saved by switching to geico

      • NYMETSFAN718 says:

the cavemen told him to switch

        • number15 says:

no i’m pretty sure it was that wad of dough with the googly eyes that kept on following him a around

          • Its not really that much money they show its only like a couple of old bills and the top one is only a five. Its somewhat hard to notice but if I were in there marketing branch I would have a hundred dollar bill on top so that if the people dont notice whats on top then they still think its a lot of money but when someone does notice it suddenly gains mare value in their eyes thus making the commercial that much ore effective.

        • kistics says:

the caveman hates the geico. it’s the geko that told him to switch

  5. mrose says:

i was gonna order the rosetta stone spqnish lessons, but I decided spanish is enough…

I really could care less what marlin hit the windshield by a random foul ball… and it definitely doesn’t make me hate them any..if somehow a homerun ball that won them a game in sept against us did…thats fine..

  6. udontmesswiththejohan says:

These Reyes “Spqnish” lessons sound hard.

  7. kistics says:

I still want Reyes leading off

Ron Darling was on FAN this morning saying that Reyes will def leadoff opening day

If Castillo keeps this up, he’d be great #2 hitter and Murphy batting 7th. 15-20 HRs in 7th spot is more than satisfactory

    • QnsNative1718 says:

I agree. I love the enthusiasm from my fellow Mets fans here but people claiming that this lineup, minus Ollie ofcourse, should be the lineup come April is over reacting just a tad. Folks, seriously lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Other than the fact that the bats look good, these 2 spring training games should do little to cloud Jerry’s judgement about his gameplan once the season starts. Not trying to be a Kill Joy, but I just dont want to see the same people here praising and apologizing to Castillo later boo him mercifully when he goes through a little funk, which is bound to happen!

      • NYMETSFAN718 says:

I totally agree, but if your Jerry, if have to give it a shot. If it works than great, if not that you go back to the “regular” lineup. You have to at least give it a shot. If it works great.

  8. DaRabbiChurch says:

i gotta say i love murphy more and more i see him that steal of 3rd today was real heads up baseball that kid has his head in the game at all times

  9. danlx13 says:

for me…i think castillo would have a great year if he was batting leadoff…i just dont know about reyes bating 3rd..if he could put up a 300 average, 20-30 homers and 100 rbis i think he would be a great #3.
also, if murphy plays like he did last year i can def see him in the 2 hole…if thats the case our lineup would be VERY deep
    (a-s-suming reyes 3rd castillo 1st)
    castillo
    murph
    reyes
    delgado
    wright
    beltran
    church
    schnieder

when u got beltran batting 6th u know ur lineup is solid…also, dwright can bat 4th in this situation, i just like him 5th or 3rd..i really dont like him batting 4th for some reason..

    Me gusta el professor Reyes!

Maybe my favorite part of going to games at Shea. Hilarious.

  11. Metfreak says:

I know its only 2 ST games but there seem’s to be a different feel to this team this yr and I hope Johan is not hurt

  12. Ollie Ollie Perez Free! says:

I’d love to see Reyes get a shot at batting third… He got 68 RBI’s last year and 81 two years prior to that in the leadoff spot… You gotta think he could hit over 100 with more opportunities with runners on…

  13. pedro4545 says:

I actually bought a custom made Mets #7 t-shirt 2 years ago with “Prof. Reyes” on the back, so I’m psyched about that news.

  14. kistics says:

Come on.. Reyes is the best lead off man in the league!! Why would you want to take that away from the guy and make him a mediocre #3 hitter??

Mets already have prototypical #3 hitter that can hit 30+ HRs 100 + RBIs and hit .300+ AVG.

Reyes is not your everyday #3 hitter. Jerry please…

    • Ollie Ollie Perez Free! says:

…Because at the end of the day, it’s all about cashing in runs, and if he proves he can hit 100+ RBI’s as well, then it lengthens the lineup even further — considering Luis Castillo is at least half as good as he’s been these past two games… And speed like his out from #3? I think he’d be producing many more runs with the protection, creating havoc in the middle of the lineup and on the base paths…

      • kistics says:

But with Reyes leading off, that will give the Mets that much more runs in the beginning of the game.

Castillo leading off means they will have average leadoff man and average #3 hitter. Reyes leading off means best leadoff man and one of the best #3 hitter.

Lineup is already deep with Church and Murphy batting #6 and 7. They are both capable of 15-20 HRs and 80 RBIs.

With KRod and Putz, IF the Mets more points in early innings, it’s that much easier for everyone.

    • kistics says:

Not to mention that Wright is career .309 hitter and Reyes ia .287 hitter. That’s difference of more than 20 points. Wright has to be a #3 hitter.

Jerry, you are a good man but please please please pleeeeaaaseeee!!!

I dont mean to come off as a jerk but what is up with all the gramatical errors in the blog posts?

“but he is willing to do whatever is asks of him”

    IS ASKS????
I understand that these guys are trying post stuff quickly but its not like its a 2 page column, its like a 30 word post. Give it a quick proof read. Its like every other post has something like this.

    • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

“dont” is supposed to be “don’t” with an apostrophe

      “gramatical” is spelled “grammatical”

“its” is supposed to be “it’s” with an apostrophe–all four times.

And nice use of the word “like” four times.

Thanks for joining the truly comical club of folks who MUST criticize the people who run this incredible FREE site, and most of you cannot do it without a stupid post full of errors. Metsblog has outdone its usual outstanding job so far this spring, so please go back to corporate news USA if this site’s errors bug you.

You come off as not only a jerk, but a really hypocritical, anal, and stupid jerk.

      • thepapers says:

        A) I cant be bothered with apostrophes

        B) I wasnt talking about slightly miss-spelled words

        C) Im a 13 year old girl so I just say ‘like’ a lot. Its my thing

        D) The site is free but what news site isnt? Also, because they are in bed with SNY I am pretty sure they are compensated well. At least well enough to proof read stuff.

        E) Comments are not legitimate news articles and should not be judges as such

        • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

OK, if you are really 13, I sincerely apologize; maybe that was harsh.

I just find it funny that people have to come on here and criticize trivial things…it is a free site…it is a blog, it is not the New York Times or CNN. And on Metsblog, there are not commercials every 5 minutes, there are no popup ads, and there are not advertisements on every page.

I just think this site is a fantastic resource for Met fans, and this spring the job they have been doing keeping us updated, and keeping us practically on the field with the players, is amazing.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but if you are going to criticize the way they write, shouldn’t you at least be able to write a sentence with proper punctuation and without using the meaningless word “like” four times in a short paragraph?

          • MetsFan4Decades says:

I personally could not care less about grammatical errors on the posts. If I can understand the gist of the thought, that’s good enough for me. Must be an age thing. The older you get, the less the trivial things tend to bother you….

        • mr.gee21 says:

          Great — a hyper-critical 13 year old. That makes it all better…

  16. Maybe This Year says:

I personally don’t think papers is 13. “D” sounds like the words of a guy in his 30’s. Back to the issue at hand…Castillo at leadoff is fine for ST, but I’d prefer to see him at #2, like the Castillo/Pierre duo they had in Florida. Castillo has a decent OBP, makes contact/doesn’t K often, has some speed and doesn’t mind moving a runner over. Almost like LoDuca from ‘06…
