Looking Forward to Maine having a solid outing.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 1:33 pm

is WFAN doing any Spring Traini9ng games? Today would of been a perfect day for one.

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 1:33 pm

I hope “Toe Lee” has a good game.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 1:35 pm

I was gettin ready to reply whaaaaaa?

and then I realized you meant Thole.
=-)

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 1:36 pm

Reppin that North Jersey.

973 stand up!

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 1:40 pm

>=-)

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 1:40 pm

I just recently learned the correct pronunciation so I just try to remind myself what it is by using it. I used to think it was “th” like in “thick” and “ole” like in “hole” Thole, like saying “soul” with a lisp. Then I thought maybe it was “t” like in “tee” and “hole” or “Tee Hole,” which would be unfortunate. “Toe Lee” is better, but it seems like a character for Billy Bob Thornton to play.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 1:35 pm

I was about to say, when is K-rod going to pitch? Then I realzied he’s in the WBC, he hasn’t been on a broadcasted game this year for the Mets which is highly upsetting.

Dirtysanchez March 5, 2009 at 1:38 pm

Hey…mikeys team. Hopefully he will persue a career in coaching…this is a good way to start

Mets5rocks March 5, 2009 at 1:47 pm

So who has the honor of updates today?

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Ahh, it’s Italy. I’m skipping this game, I’ll just check the boxscore later. If Piazza were playing, not coaching, I might pay more timely attention.

dominicanboy08 March 5, 2009 at 1:48 pm

I read in a previous post that some of you play mlb 09 the show online. Can you say your username? I do play online, so maybe we can play a couple of games.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 1:51 pm

Don’t have 09 yet =(

Dirtysanchez March 5, 2009 at 2:02 pm

GET IT BRO…ITS AWSOME!!!!!

MurphsDaMan28 March 5, 2009 at 2:05 pm

number15 March 5, 2009 at 2:16 pm

the best baseball game for my money was mvp 2005 for reg xbox. still play it sometimes

MurphsDaMan28 March 5, 2009 at 2:19 pm

Ken Griffey Baseball for nintendo was the greatest video game ever invented…mvp is def. second best ever. I got 2k9 and it doesn’t even have citi field, willie randolph is still manager..its just not good at all.

MetsWin4901 March 5, 2009 at 2:33 pm

My username is Richdogz, but I haven’t played online yet.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 1:50 pm

I really wish they would broadcast this game.

alwayswright March 5, 2009 at 1:52 pm

i play mlb09 and my name is antstiggity. and i have a 1-1 record

krumbledkookie March 5, 2009 at 1:52 pm

The famous Valentino Pascucci is starting for Team Italy against the Mets today… interesting. I still don’t get how he never got a shot last year.

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Da Metza, dey no hava da Dee Aitcha. jk

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:02 pm

lol whaat?? is that italina grave

NYMETSFAN718 March 5, 2009 at 2:04 pm

LOL, Alex, you can say that.

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Once again proof that Italian Americans
are fair game and not included in the
watch what you say age of political correctness!

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Absolutely fongulalou, it’s a double standard that I’ve learned to work with. I dislike political correctness, it pretty much singlehandedly killed humor.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:17 pm

lmao.. jesus..

mark4212 March 5, 2009 at 2:19 pm

The double standard is very annoying. but if you can laugh at all of them, even the ones about your own heritage then it’s a start. It’s a handful of people that run it for everyone when they get all up in arms about it when it’s meant in humor.

I’m Irish and Polish and will the first one to crack stupid or drunk or potato jokes.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:22 pm

but mark some jokes are taking out of context and not everyone is the same.. i for once don’t joke like that coz i don’t like it and don’t wanna offend anybody, but if we joking u’d be able to see it..

Clem Kadiddlehopper March 5, 2009 at 2:27 pm

Had you made that statement to some members of my family you would make all future keyboard entries with your tongue. :)

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Ok, don’t know if this one is on gameday or not. I can’t break the code if it is.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 1:59 pm

Come on! I was relying on you The Real!

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:09 pm

Never fear. I am an internet legend.

://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2009_03_05_itaint_nynmlb_1

mark4212 March 5, 2009 at 2:15 pm

That you are…… BTW Nick Punto is italian…. that just blew my mind.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:20 pm

I found it too, but when I tried to post it, it said “awaiting moderation”

But thank you nevertheless

MetsLv31 March 5, 2009 at 2:44 pm

I think all links get flagged for moderation to avoid linking to “inappropriate” web sites…if you notice TRS took out the “http”

Mitch45 March 5, 2009 at 2:06 pm

Why do the last names of some of the Italian players sound like yummy Italian dishes?

Dallospedale
Pascucci,
Denorfia
Mazzanti
Rottino
Ciofrone

Put the words “Chicken”, “Pasta” or “Penne a la” before each name and you’ll see what I mean.

mark4212 March 5, 2009 at 2:07 pm

LMAO….

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 2:08 pm

I had the baked Mazzanti with a side of Ciofrone and a nice glass of Rottino last night, I’m still full.

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 2:09 pm

I had the baked Mazzanti with a side of Ciofrone and a nice gla$$ of Rottino last night, I’m still full.

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:14 pm

None of this is very funny and if any of you
made these comments about hispanics,
blacks or orientals, you’d all be banned.
Hey, Matt wheres your pride?

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Of course he might have to start with banning you for your screen name.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:18 pm

guys relax, and fongu is in some way right, but come on u don’t have to get like that..

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 2:21 pm

alex I understand he has a valid point and I’m going to stop now, but seriously unless I’ve been drastically misinformed about the meaning of his screen name, he’s throwing stones from inside a gla$$ house.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:24 pm

i agree, i see ur point now grave.. hmm.. very odd

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:24 pm

First off, I’m only half-kidding.Second, it
took months for some to even catch my
screen name.Third,I did it intentionaly
figuring i’d be banned again anyway.
Heck, i was banned for sayin’ Omar
should be running a bodega in east elmhurst
not a professional sports franchise.
But really I was just pointing out the double
standard.

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Dont rip on me dude! B/t/w Like blacks,
hispanics and Asians, we’re allowed to
throw stones at ourselves.

GravediggerHebner March 5, 2009 at 2:28 pm

fong (what I normally call you to avoid trouble) consider yourself successful in pointing out the double standard. Since you were half-kidding, I hope your half-serious side will accept my full apology. I was being immature, I’m sorry.

alwayswright March 5, 2009 at 2:16 pm

fong you kidding me right??????? its juss a joke. dont have a “giuni attack” on me

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Like I said I was only half-kiddin’
Just pointing something out.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:28 pm

lol, u guys are crazy, but in seriousness is not proper to joke about one’s nationality..

NYMETSFAN718 March 5, 2009 at 2:29 pm

i guess now is not the time to tell everyone im arabic

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:41 pm

No need to apologize, I personally wasn’t
offended. I see humor in everything but
cancer and aids.

jay15 March 5, 2009 at 2:32 pm

It was a nice touch calling out people for being racially insensitive and yet using oriental in the same post.

NYMETSFAN718 March 5, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Whats wrong with the word oriental?

jay15 March 5, 2009 at 2:41 pm

Um it’s not the 1970’s anymore. They are called Asians now. I mean I’m not the political correctness police. I couild care less about all this. I was just pointing out the use of a racially insensitive remark in a post that was telling people not to be racially insensitive. Now if that damm cracker Maine could get a bunt down we;d be in business

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Jay, it was w/intent. As an Investigator,
if I take a statement and/or fill out a report
and write “Asian” theres no way to determin
if that person is from China,India or one of
the former Soviet countries in Asia.
Again, You just proved my point about
political correctness.

NYMETSFAN718 March 5, 2009 at 2:45 pm

Really you think so? Half of the chinese restaurants have the word oriental in them. Im not saying your wrong im just curious. You wont find a restaurant with the N word on it, or the S word in the name.

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Would be kinda funny though to see an Italian
Rest. Named Guido Greaseballs Wop house.

NYMETSFAN718 March 5, 2009 at 2:50 pm

LOL

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 2:50 pm

So how does Oriental delineate from Korea, China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.?

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 3:00 pm

My last response for a while, gotta take
my dog to the groomer, When I’d write
down on a rpt that the person is oriental
it would indicate hes got slanted eyes,
yellow skin and is likely a bad driver.
Again, as apposed to an Indian who
would have brown skin and smelled
like curry. Dont start hammering,
I’m only(sort of) kidding.
Later fellas, the Boxer needs his nails trimmed!

fongulalou March 5, 2009 at 3:01 pm

Should have read opposed.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:07 pm

This just in:
Manny wants to be a Met in 2010 and help defend our W.S. Title.

What, too early?

=-)

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 5, 2009 at 2:10 pm

LOL!

See, I am busy at work, but always have a second to appreciate the frequent and excellent humor this site provides!

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:11 pm

lmao.. sorry mr north jersey.. i guess u are gonna have to get another player to root for..

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Hey, if we are defending a title next year they can get Joe Schmo and I’d be ok with it.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:21 pm

lol, i hear ya, but i think he’s been taking already..

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:11 pm

mrBill aka DWright March 5, 2009 at 2:33 pm

ARE EYOU BACK TO BEING THE REAL JERK???

JA JA JA JA JA JA JA JA

mark4212 March 5, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Did Maine just intentionally walk Nick Punto lol?

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:14 pm

For any of those who were Val lovers. It has to say something when you are the fulltime DH for the Italy team. The guy must have not even taken a glove on the field.

alwayswright March 5, 2009 at 2:15 pm

what do you guys think about forming a league on mlb 09??? im down for that. itll be the metsblog league??? yea sounds corny but it can turn into something pretty big. then we can all get together on here and crack on each other about how we dished out a spanking to so-n-so

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:19 pm

sounds cool but I can envision a field where #5 Wright will be playing all over the field.

Now playing 1st #5 D.Wright
Now playing RF #5 D.Wright
etc etc etc

Taking a page right out of a Bugs Bunny cartoon

Dirtysanchez March 5, 2009 at 2:25 pm

loll i remember that cartoon….i can imagine dwright throwing a bugs bunny curveball lol

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Maine walked the bases loaded, no outs yet…..

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Maine then goes on to strike out my fellow Italian on 3 pitches, gets a line out right back to him then proceeds to strike another Italian out.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:24 pm

Pascucci was one of the K victims!

mark4212 March 5, 2009 at 2:27 pm

i think there has to be some sort of issue with the Gameday, as all walks have been on 4 pitches and all K’s have been on 3.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:29 pm

always is during st.

ravi3 March 5, 2009 at 2:23 pm

Yeesh…Maine walks the bases loaded with 0 outs, then 2K’s and a lineout…living a tad dangerously

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:24 pm

Then Maine proceded to get the next 3 in order. 2K’s and a line out to the pitcher.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:25 pm

No hitter still intact yesssss.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Anybody know the score? just got home…..

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:26 pm

if he doesn’t add another pitcher to his repertoire he’d be known as JOHN “5 INNING” MAYNE..

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Whats wrong with Maine is that hes not aggressive enough anymore like he was in 07 Peterson got all mad that he gave up all those homers still he had a great year

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:34 pm

agree, but another pitch to his arsenal wouldn’t hurt either, he gets a lot of ppl on those 3-2 counts..

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:36 pm

a sinker or cutter would be nice he could learn the sink from Pelf and the cut from Johan or K-Rod

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:38 pm

uh.. yeah, no.. something like a splitter to go along with his fastball, spliter come out as a fastball and dipp.. see clemens and smoltz..

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:39 pm

the splitter takes a lot of learning but a good idea notheless but him and ollie do give up a lot of homers a sinker would be nice

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:45 pm

I think he just has to work on consistancy more.
His Krates are not bad at all. He had 180K’s in 191 innings in 2007 and 122 in 140 innings last year. A drop but nothing drastic. He just has innings where he loses it.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:47 pm

cause he throws too many off-speed pitches when you have a heater that good why not use it more often?

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Actually he threw a higher percentage of FB last year than he did in 2007. In 2008 he threw 70.5 percent FB and in 2007 he was at 66.4.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:57 pm

If anything, it could be because he almost scrapped his slider last year. He went from 21% in 2007 to 10% in 2008.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:58 pm

well still in 07 the whole year all of his pitches were good

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 2:54 pm

I don’t think his problem has anything to do with his pitches — it’s his distrust of them that is the problem. He needs to stop dancing around and just throw some of his nasty stuff over the plate.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:57 pm

agreed

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Like I said earlier, I have no idea why he went from 21 to 10% on his sliders and from 12 to 18 percent on his changeup.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Castillo waks, bringing his OBP to around .500 this ST.

alwayswright March 5, 2009 at 2:28 pm

so come on guys what do you think about starting a league on mlb 09? if you guys are serious put in your usernames and ill track u on my ps3. ill send you guys request and well try to get this thin going. i also play a ton of COD5

MetsLv31 March 5, 2009 at 2:53 pm

If you have a 360 I’ll shoot you plenty in COD4 & 5 :)

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:29 pm

BOTTOM 1

Louie Castillo walks, Maine, attemmting to sac bunt, pops into a double-play in foul territory, Then Marlon anderson flies to center.

Heading to the second.

MurphsDaMan28 March 5, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Its frustrating, because he will pitch a terrific game, but then the next start he will have one of those annoying 5 inning walkfests.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:31 pm

like i said let him be more agresive

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:32 pm

who??

PEREZ??

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Maine! let him throw more fastballs thats what he did in 07 and look at what happened

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Maine bunts into popup dbl play ouch.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:30 pm

And Maine procedes to pop up a bunt and double off Castillo. Thus, why Manuel is stressing good bunting.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:31 pm

How many have Ps3’s?
I do username KRAZE

who else

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Castillo waks, bringing his OBP to around .500 this ST”

for his sake he better hope he at least gets 3/4 of that during the regular

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Hey alwayswright,

You can do a Home Clubhouse for Metsblog users LoL

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:37 pm

Top 2

Johnny Maine K’s Giusepee Mazzanti

Vinny Rotino single

Peter Ciofone lines out

Nick Punto single, Rotino thrown out at home trying to score by Marlon Anderson.

3 out heading to the bottom of the second.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:39 pm

How convient that a guy named Rotino get’s thrown out be a guy with a noodle for an arm.
Sorry.

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 2:55 pm

LOL

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:08 pm

how was that funny wanny??

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:16 pm

I forget that your sense of humor requires a broken record player.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:30 pm

stop kissing his AS-ss that’s what i mean..

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Maine 26 pitches
14 strikes
12 balls

Dirtysanchez March 5, 2009 at 2:43 pm

thats his problem…too many pitches..not economical

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Johnnie be agressive throw more heaters!

Mets5rocks March 5, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Actually, 26 pitches for 2 innings is not only good, it’s below the MLB average last year. Not too mention if he walked the bases loaded in the first that’s some kind of pitching after that to only have 26 pitches after 2

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:53 pm

if its only the 2nd thats a great line

stickguy March 5, 2009 at 2:58 pm

It is also wrong (thanks to gameday). You can’t get that many walks + SOs in 2 innings on only 26 pitches.

If it was 26, that’s 13 per inning, so only about 104 though 8. Pray that he can do that in the regular season!

riggs March 5, 2009 at 2:40 pm

In other games:

Wright – 2-4
Beltran – 0-3 (4 LOB)
Delgado – 0-3
Reyes (1-1) Leadoff 2B, Scores on Cano Single

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Wright – 2-4″

finnaly he got a hit.. lol jk

mrBill aka DWright March 5, 2009 at 3:09 pm

Wright – 2-4″
finnaly he got a hit.. lol jk

This might be it for 2009….. Haaa

kistics March 5, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Do you guys miss Giuseppe Franco at all?

I’m beginning to miss it a little bit

NYMETSFAN718 March 5, 2009 at 2:41 pm

LMAO

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Nope, I hit him every time. I got good aim.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:42 pm

I miss Julio Franco he made El Duque seem young speaking of him if the Mets want a good 5th starter what about the duke?

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 5, 2009 at 2:54 pm

No.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:55 pm

like Chan Ho park would be any better …. You know Freddy Garcia reminds me of Jose Lima Bean

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 5, 2009 at 3:03 pm

Hey, I was pretty good with the Dodgers, lol. :)

But as for Duque, he was never fully recovered from the chronic bunion issue he had last year, so what makes you think he’d be ready to pitch in 2009? I haven’t even heard anything about him attempting to make a comeback. He makes Carl Pavano look like Cal Ripken.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 3:06 pm

lol but Livan will give you 200 innngs with a 6 era i dont want that Freddy Garcia looks like a piece of crap my dead grandma throws harder than him an dRedding hasn’t pitched yet so i dont know…..

Mets5rocks March 5, 2009 at 2:42 pm

What’s the score guys?

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:43 pm

Evan and Joe on da Fan are something else
=-)

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Steve Sommers will always be my favorite… Time for a Saturday night smooze and how you be Steve Sommers here and you there

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Somers opening monologues should be put in Radio Hall Of Fame

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:49 pm

best talk show host ever

kistics March 5, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Aaron Boone?

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:49 pm

what does that have to do with anything?

kistics March 5, 2009 at 2:51 pm

they were just talking about him to replace arod and how it’s full circle

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 2:52 pm

look anyonee of us can replace arod i thought Stephon Marbury was poison in a clubhouse but him….

kistics March 5, 2009 at 2:44 pm

I wonder if Maine is throwing a lot of curve balls

Not too good even for Spring Training

i saw his line; very ugly. although i will resist to temptation to laugh (too hard, anyway). bad sports karma.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Reed tripples in the midst of more bad situational hitting from Evans.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Bottom 2

Tatis grounds out

Reed triples

Evans can’t get himi n, grounds out to third.

Mackowiak strikes out.

Waste of a 1-out triple by Reed, who I think may be a reliable bat off the bench.

Heading to the 3rd, still 0-0

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Reed triples with 1 out not bad but we left him at 3rd

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 2:55 pm

yeah, i’ve seen a movie like that, but with no outs.. hmmm can’t remember who was the star on that movie..

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:01 pm

If I told you that last season that Wright batted .303 with 20 RBI in 33 at bats with a runner on third base only (the situation you are describing) would you finally shut the hell up with your incessant whining about one at bat?

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:05 pm

do you have vaerub in your house? rub it in your nose to see if u feel anything, there’s an obvious sense of humor to what i say, if u don’t like it don’t post on it.. JO..

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:09 pm

If saying the same thing 1000x is your idea of a sense of humor than I’d say your senses have been dulled.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:11 pm

Obviously he loves the attention and we fall for it every time. Just like he when he says that we will finish 3rd place. He knows it will get a reaction.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:13 pm

ok, so let me and my dull senses alone.. and now go and kiss TRS fanny.. wanny

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:17 pm

u too uptight TRS, go and drink a 6 pack or something..

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:19 pm

It’s very difficult to post here because invariably each thread is degenerated by one his posts.

I love the 3rd place prediction. Yet somehow he also predicts Jose Reyes to win the MVP. He’d sure have to have a monster season to win the MVP for a 3rd place team — especially as a guy who does not hit homeruns.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:27 pm

barry larkin won it in 1995 how many hr’s he hit?? and arod won it for a last place team and so did andre dawson.. know ur baseball

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:05 pm

I think it was Jose Reyes, who was 1-5 with a single in the game.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:07 pm

or maybe the pitcher who destroy our bullpen and we SIGN BACK..

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:10 pm

We resigned Ayala? When>?

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Isn’t the bullpen largely responsible for its own suckitude?

And can you pin the blame solely on one guy, given that injuries to Maine and Pedro also affected the bullpen greatly?

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:10 pm

Isn’t the bullpen largely responsible for its own inability?

And can you pin the blame solely on one guy, given that injuries to Maine and Pedro also affected the bullpen greatly?

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:15 pm

so is not fair to count onn one of our “good pitchers to hold a 5 run lead??? are you serious?? this guy killed us again in sept just like “jose reyes” did..

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:16 pm

We resigned Ayala? When>?”

please tell me that wasn’t another one of your jokes..? please tell me

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 3:20 pm

Alex: You are forgetting that the Mets lost because David Wright left Dan Murphy on 3B.

It had nothing to do with the bullpen.

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 3:01 pm

These media types in sports that predict who will win and why with their fantasy stats bible books their computers crunching numbers their algorithms or whatever I must say I take with a grain of salt.

Who predicted Rays winning divison?
Who predicted Tigers beating Yanks a few years back?
Who predicted Red Sox down 0-3 winning it all?
Who predicted NY Giants winning Superbowl?
and on and on and on

I love sports for this reason for all your stats you just never know.
Sweeet….

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 3:02 pm

sad thing is that only happens once in a while

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 3:04 pm

but you left out the 69 mets and game 6 of 86. By the way im a huge GIANT fan

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 3:06 pm

I figured on a Mets Blog those would be too obvious. =-)

Long suffering Jets fan wondering if I’ll ever see them win a SuperBowl.

metsfan46 March 5, 2009 at 3:09 pm

yeah but those two were really unexpected and i laugh at the jets its been 40 years…… Why im a giant fan jets havent won it in 40 and mets havent won it in 22 years that must be tough man

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Give it up Wanny gjust have another beer like he said. Unfortunately for him it’s much harder to carry beer as it means that both of his hands are tied up. One for the beer and one to hold up his pants.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:29 pm

wow, another joke, at least i can see unlike u and wanny who got each other’s head up each other’s Fanny..

and TRS u are on a roll, hey wanny, how come ur not laughin??

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:36 pm

Come on Alex, this is just another clas sic example of how you really don’t have a sense of humor. All of your jokes and insults have something to do with me sticking my head up a rear or being gay. Very offensive dude, you need to get with the times. If people chose to be gay that’s there choice, not that there’s anything wrong with it.

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:42 pm

All of your jokes and insults have something to do with me sticking my head up a rear or being gay. Very offensive dude, you need to get with the times”

Please tell me when have i called you gay?? when?? and second of all it was you who starter offenin me first talking about my pants up and stuff, i don’t come over her to joke with anybody, but it seems u transform into your jerkself when wanny comes in your defense, i am not a punk and won’t let anybody walk over me, and i told you b4, lay off of your “i am the president of this blog” mentality.. is not helping

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:47 pm

LMAO you don’t come on here to joke but you joke all the time? Lets see? Baby Wright? 3rd place? Come on Alex, all of us joke around. You just can’t take it when people mess with you. Period.
You know the reason I was mentioning the pants thing and I think it’s quite funny. You made the comment that you dressed like a gangster thus if you do you would obviously have to hold up your pants when you walk. It’s funny, I don’t care who you are.
You constantly calling Wright Baby Wright and saying we will finish 3rd is most likely funny to some. Most of who would be Phillies fans but I am sure some Mets fans are in to self torture and would find it funny as well. Such as anyone that, uh would have their head stuck up your rear?

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 3:38 pm

What’s wrong with my joke Wanny?

mrBill aka DWright March 5, 2009 at 3:45 pm

2-0 Italy heading to the 4th

stickguy March 5, 2009 at 3:06 pm

Was just speculating on the mets rotation, and estiamting what they can do, based on past production, age, etc. And of course, as-suming they stay healthy (which they all seem to be at this point). And of the big 4, only Maine missed time injured last year.

ANd yes, i know that usually they don’t all have big years at the same time, but this could be a big year if they all make a full round of starts, and have a good but not unrealistic year:

Santana – 34, 220, 2.85 (20-7)
Perez – 32, 201, 3.90, (17-10)
Maine – 31, 198, 3.75 (17-10)
Pelf – 32, 210, 3.30 (19-9)

And of course, wins are what those #s could lead too, as-suming the pen is really solid, and offense equivilant to last year!

And other than Ollie’s ERA, non of those numbers are at all out of reach if they can stay off the DL.

kistics March 5, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Pelf can’t strike out that much. Santana will win more than 20 games if he stays healthy, which he should have had last year.

I say Pelf wins 15-17 wins, Maine and Ollie wins 13-15 games.

I think Garcia will win 13.. … in A-ball

stickguy March 5, 2009 at 3:16 pm

That wasn’t Ks. The 210 was IP.

And if they each make the predicted # of starts, I think they can win more than your guess.

kistics March 5, 2009 at 3:19 pm

I hope and pray that your prediction is right. If that’s the case, Mets are going all the way.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:18 pm

I would think he means innings.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Here’s the problem with stickguy’s predictions. Of course they are best case scenerios but even still. Only 1 guy in the NL got 20+ last year and only 6 guys got 17 or more.

therealsince86 March 5, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Yet I am expecting.
Johan 230 20 wins
Pelfrey 210 15 wins
Perez 210 15 wins
Maine 190 13 wins

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:19 pm

wow, if we get that.. WORLD SERIES HERE WE COME!!

kistics March 5, 2009 at 3:23 pm

I think that’s perfectly capable. Pelf won 13 with the start that he had last season.

Maine won 10 games last season with 25 starts. Add 7 more starts and he can get to 13 wins. Plus if his curveball works out and becomes more effective, he’ll get more than that.

Ollie also won 10 games, but he had terrible 1st half and that he’s been learning from Johan, hopefully he’ll develop into #2 type of pitcher

number15 March 5, 2009 at 3:19 pm

are these #’s just off the top of your head? they are very unrealistic for the most part, except maybe for johan, and even he has only won 20 once

Mr North Jersey March 5, 2009 at 3:11 pm

Hey Alex,
saw your post about shoving VaporRub up your nose have to say did you just pull that out of thin air?

=-)

alex.422 March 5, 2009 at 3:18 pm

lmao, yeah..

Wanny2 March 5, 2009 at 4:17 pm

Of course it was pulled out of thin air — just like most of the “facts” that form the basis for his “opinions”

This game is getting boring, I’m done updating.

stickguy March 5, 2009 at 3:46 pm

Looks like all the pitchers are trying to get extra work in (throw more pitches) by walking 3 guys every inning, and striking out a few more!

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 3:50 pm

1-2-3 inning for Brandon Knight! Front-runner for the 5th spot in the rotation?

kistics March 5, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Maybe they are trying to simulate pressure situations

mark4212 March 5, 2009 at 3:53 pm

News on the Mets, the official number might be up to 16 in the WBC now:

Dominican GM Stan Javier has targeted Fernando Tatis as Alex Rodriguez’s replacement for the World Baseball Cla-s-sic.
“I would like to play for my country,” Tatis said, “but this is coming at the last moment. I have to talk to my family.” He’s probably actually more concerned with securing playing time for the upcoming season.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 3:58 pm

A-rod has a torn labrum in his hip to go along with a cyst.

Could be out untill the all-star break.

stickguy March 5, 2009 at 4:07 pm

Funny what happens when a 32 YO goes off the stuff (as-suming he isn’t taking any chances and still using something else!)

sounds painful, and that 9 years remaining on the deal (or is it 10?) are potentially looking real sweet for the Yanks now…

Wonder if they go after him at some point to get out of it?”

kistics March 5, 2009 at 4:11 pm

wow.. that stinks for the Yanks

janss36 March 5, 2009 at 4:15 pm

Cashman said that they are going to drain the cyst and rest and rehab without surgery.

MetsWin4901 March 5, 2009 at 4:03 pm

A-Rod torn Labrum? Wow Looks like I won’t be drafting him in my fantasy league as the #1 pick. Thanks for the update. They originally said 8 weeks.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 4:07 pm

IF he has surgery he can be out untill August. It would be a similar precedure to the one Chase Utley had in the offseason.

kistics March 5, 2009 at 4:13 pm

Good thing I pa ssed on him for Hanley at 3rd pick

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 4:11 pm

BTW Reese Havens is in the game s Italy and playing SS.

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 5:11 pm

Mets win 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth.

Cory Sulivan hit a game tying homer and Reed drove in Murphy with the winning run.

Chris Jelic March 5, 2009 at 5:13 pm

To fill in, some guys who have something to fight for stepped up in the 9th…Robertson scoreless top of the ninth, Valentin leadoff single, Sullivan 2-run homerun to tie, Murphy pinch hit single, Reed RBI double to win the game (also had a triple).

metsin080910 March 5, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I can picture Murph motoring around third as the winning run.
