The woman who does the Nooner is hot.

number15 March 6, 2009 at 12:41 pm

hot- yes. hotter than julie alexandria- no.

Bruce Boisclair09 March 6, 2009 at 12:48 pm

She has got a little “Dana Gordon” from Entourage thing working. Hot.

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 12:50 pm

No one touches Julie A.

BillyDeeWilliams March 6, 2009 at 12:50 pm

while both hot, i’ll take the nooner girl, and you can have julie alexandria. then we can both be happy with hot girls.

number15 March 6, 2009 at 12:54 pm

agreed. and udontmesswiththejohan can have lori rubinson

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:22 pm

Ha – I love me some Julie A. Remember Donaldson, she was pretty. I think she got a little freaked out during the clubhouse celebration in 06, that was an international incident waiting to happen.

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:22 pm

Billy D, I’m surprised at you. As a world renowned lothario, I would think your tastes would be more refined.

BillyDeeWilliams March 6, 2009 at 1:28 pm

I’ve just got a thing for her. She caught my eye. I’d have to say she’s definitely got the cute factor going, and I’m all about that.

Plus, I loves me some white women.

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:32 pm

I bet you do Billy D, I bet you do.

In order for Nooner to take on Julie A though she will have to come out of a deep bracket – her next round opponent: the beautifully quaffed Teddy “ballgame” Berg.

Berg +58 1/2

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:33 pm

LMFAO udontmess!! I will wait for the line on Ted to go up a little though…

And I agree on Julie Donaldson…I miss her on Nets games…and that postgame thing in 06 was indeed a riot.

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Yeah, you could just see her getting visible uncomfortable while everyone was starting to party.

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:38 pm

But you know what they say “If you can’t partaaay, don’t cover the partaaay”.

Billy D knows what I’m talking about, don’t you Billy D.

BillyDeeWilliams March 6, 2009 at 1:53 pm

damn right i do. i’ve been preaching it all my life.

Dirtysanchez March 6, 2009 at 1:01 pm

agreed 15. nooner chick is cute..julie a is hot.

BillyDeeWilliams March 6, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Matt…can we get a “Hotter Chick” poll?

number15 March 6, 2009 at 1:39 pm

i’ve got another one…anyone ever seen jill martin on msg for knicks games? she too makes my synapses go buck wild. still give the overall edge to julie tho cuz i have a thing for brunettes

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:55 pm

Julie A takes it going away.

I’ve got a thing for Hazel Mae on the MLB Net.

number15 March 6, 2009 at 2:21 pm

not a huge fan. shes just awkward

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Psssssssss. I say nuts to u number15.

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 12:41 pm

It seems like every spring training game is against the Cardinals or Team Italy.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 12:44 pm

Yesterday I heard some announcer on WGN say that starting next year there will be 15 teams in AZ and 15 teams in FL for spring training. I guess there will be more games against colleges or international teams, because otherwise some team is going to be off every day.

janss36 March 6, 2009 at 1:13 pm

Split Squads…

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:19 pm

Excellent point.

If you were literate you’d find plenty of examples of he and I in disagreement.

Dirtysanchez March 6, 2009 at 1:22 pm

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:26 pm

I’ve been analyzing writing styles and after lengthy deliberation I’ve come to the conclusion that Mr. Bill uses more than one handle and often times posts and then re-posts as his alter ego. I will not reveal all of my findings at this time, but rest a$$ured that there will be a day when he will be exposed as the charlatan that he is.

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 1:29 pm

I said “I think,” not “We think.”

I don’t speak for anybody but myself.

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:35 pm

udontmess, again LOL….thank you for the humor…it is sincerely appreciated!

mrBill aka DWright March 6, 2009 at 1:37 pm

HAAA, this is hilarious inspector Clouseau

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 1:41 pm

Yeah, laugh it up now Mr. Bill while you still can. You won’t be laughing when I bring the full weight of Metsblog authority down on you like a fat woman sitting on a rickety bench. The time for hounoring yourself will soon be upon you. In the meantime, if I were you, I would ready myself for the reckoning.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:42 pm

lmao…

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:46 pm

lol, udont ARE YOU SERIOUS?? lol.. come on man..

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:47 pm

Wow, I apologize to every tool in the world for calling MrBill a tool…that was mean and inappropriate to ALL tools, even the old, worn-out and useless ones.

Can you think of one original sentence, just one?? Even the oh noooo response is lifted from someone far more original and creative than you, a 30-year old puppet whose claim to fame was getting destroyed on a weekly basis.

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:48 pm

alex buddy, I think being an ally of mrbill is already starting to corrode your brain….

no kingman, not at all, if someone has the same pov as me i concur with that person, i’m nobody’s ally..

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Oooooo mrbill, you got me there! ALMOST an original thought….but, as with all of the thoughts you share with us, a silly and false one…..

Wow, you are FUN!

Now roll over and give RodKan*hl a kiss already!

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:52 pm

udont:

LOL.. Ok man.. sorry quite wasn’t sure for a sec..

See? you fall for it every time clouseau

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 2:14 pm

“According to some people here I am a baiter and those same people take the bait EVERY TIME..”

Don’t flatter yourself man…

And alex, having sincere disagreements, as you and I and MANY folks on here do on an almost daily basis, is FAR different than just being an annoying troll like mrbill, who comes on here and spews nonsense solely to get attention.

mrBill aka DWright March 6, 2009 at 2:21 pm

is FAR different than just being an annoying troll like mrbill, who comes on here and spews nonsense solely to get attention.

And you make sure i get plenty…

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:27 pm

And you make sure i get plenty…

lmao, sorry kingman, i think u got baited.. again.. look, what i do is this, if someone is being a “troll” i just ignore it, and u shall do the same is my advice…

Mr Bill Post:

is FAR different than just being an annoying troll like mrbill, who comes on here and spews nonsense solely to get attention.

And you make sure i get plenty…

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Let’s see a big performance from Niese! Make this 5th spot competition a good one!

udontmesswiththejohan March 6, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Agreed. Would love to see him win it. With injuries and lack of performance, it’s there for the taking.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 12:45 pm

JOHN NIIIESEE…

Dirtysanchez March 6, 2009 at 1:02 pm

yup..your boy…hope doesnt get lit up.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:09 pm

yup..your boy…hope doesnt get lit up.

LOL, wow, if i would’ve said that i’d have been called a troll and all that other stuff..

Dirtysanchez March 6, 2009 at 1:13 pm

lol…i was just kidding alex. As much as people disagree on here ive learned theres one thing in common is that we want this team to succeed..just people have different viewpoints on how to accomplish that. You like niese for #5…i prefer someone else and give niese some more time in the minors before giving him a full time job.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:21 pm

THANK YOU!!

well said dirty..

Gina March 6, 2009 at 1:01 pm

According to mets.com, via amazin avenue, Santana’s schedule has been moved up, by a lot, so that it’s more likely he makes his opening day start.

Does anyone else feel like this doesn’t make sense?

He was behind schedule due to stiffness/tightness/pain/w/e in his pitching elbow because he overworked himself trying to come back earlier from knee surgery.

So now we’re going to continue to overwork him so that he can come back ONE start earlier?

Dirtysanchez March 6, 2009 at 1:03 pm

gotta love the suits huh…

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:10 pm

He wasn’t far behind at all. The media blew that story out of proportion.

He never said himself that he was overworked trying to come back early from knee surgery. He said he was not used to Warthen’s pitching plan which is what caused the stiffness/soreness.

If the Johan says he’s ready to go then he’s ready to go. The guy knows his body.

Gina March 6, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Santana actually did say the stiffness probably came from trying too hard to come back for the WBC. And how often do players say they’re not ready to go? Church said he was fine last year, so did Maine before the team officially shut hum down.

Also according to Mets.com he’ll be 6 days ahead of schedule.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:31 pm

Well, comparing Santana who was sore, to someone who suffered two concussions and someone who had a bone spurr in his shoulder is unfair.

Soreness/stiffness, whatever you like to call it, is completely normal early in ST. ESPECIALLY if you’re on a pitching program that you aren’t used to.

Of course it would have been less nerve-racking if he had a MRI but, I am confident in our doctors who said he’s fine and confident that Johan knos his own body. He would not pitch 2 bp sessions if there was something seriously wrong with him.

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 1:14 pm

Santana and Warthen both said that Santana has been throwing for a while.

I don’t think he can be considered behind other than that he has not had game action.

Tightness is nothing to go crazy about in February.

Mets5rocks March 6, 2009 at 1:16 pm

I salute u for your craftyness!

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:37 pm

LOL on that last line Grave…I always salute you….

playtheyoung March 6, 2009 at 1:07 pm

Why in the world is Abreu playing over Evans, maybe they should let the fans get some time at firstbase. They have just as good a chance to make the team as Abreu does.

mets9268 March 6, 2009 at 1:12 pm

I wish today’s game was on TV. I know that Reese Havens is going to be in the minors this year but he’s in the lineup today and I would like to see him play. As long as he’s not in a trade I think he’s going to be one of the guys in the minors that becomes a big part of this team over the next couple of years.

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 1:40 pm

It says in the boxscore that Coronado is at short, not Havens. Is this true?

metsman69 March 6, 2009 at 2:19 pm

According to David Lennon’s blog at newsday, Havens was scratched from the game today with tightness in his left hamstring.

I know…. here we go again…..

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:19 pm

ok, uh.. what’s the score??

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 1:23 pm

None yet. top of the 2nd. Niese struck out Pujols to end the first.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:24 pm

NIEEESEEEE…

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:26 pm

Niese striking out Pujols is the good news. The bad news is, Castillo doubled leading off and was on 3rd with one out, and didn’t score.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:23 pm

No score entering the top of the 2nd.

mets9268 March 6, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Just throwing this out there cause I’m bored. I know this would never happen.
Right now the Yankees could really use someone to play 3B cause a-rod isn’t going to make the whole season without surgery. They would also like another catcher and there was already rumors they were looking at Castro who we would like to move. Omar should see what kind of package he would have to put together to get Cano.
He can send the Yankees Castro, Castillo, Valentin(2nd & 3B) and Cora to(2nd, SS & 3B). If he has to put one of the many OF’s or RP’s that we won’t have room for in the deal. If the Yankees take all of Castillo’s contract we will just take Cano and nothing else in the deal.

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 1:33 pm

Brian Cashman would laugh at that. You want to send him our washed up expendable players for a young second baseman who had one below average year and 2 all star seasons, one of which where he almost won the batting crown? To get Cano, you’d have to at least start with Murphy.

Mets5rocks March 6, 2009 at 1:34 pm

Cano isn’t worth half of what yu’ve suggested! lol

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:34 pm

IMO I don’t see why the Yankees would give up on Cano, especially considering ARod’s extended absence.

mets9268 March 6, 2009 at 1:51 pm

I said that I know the Yankees wouldn’t do it but you never know unless you ask. Sometimes people hit the panic button and make dumb moves. Its not going to happen I was just throwing stuff out there cause I was bored.

VelvetFoot March 6, 2009 at 1:29 pm

What’s the story with Game Day?
Won’t it be available in the way it used to be, ie, free?

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:31 pm

I don’t know why it’s not readily available on mlb.com, but I left a link for today’s game above. Bookmark that and you can use that bookmark to get to future gameday pages.

shea_guevara March 6, 2009 at 1:42 pm

If past years are any indication, MLB.com doesn’t do too many Gameday feeds for spring training. They should ramp it up again for the regular season.

mouserdz March 6, 2009 at 2:08 pm

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:30 pm

No score middle of the 2nd.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:35 pm

Havens is NOT in the starting line-up, Matt. Coronado is starting SS, or at least that is what’s listed on GameDay.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:39 pm

grave:

uh.. update.. please.. what niese did?

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:42 pm

Nothing yet alex. Right now gameday is stuck in the “middle of the 2nd.” I promise as soon as they update, I will.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:48 pm

thank grave.. ur the man..

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 1:40 pm

i thought havens was going to start…it looks like coronado instead.

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Yeah, that’s no fun!

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:43 pm

GameDay only seems to update after every half inning.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:45 pm

2-0 St. Louis…

Seriously though, we can’t beat this team in the Spring. Thank God these games don’t count.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:47 pm

ah damn.. thanks grave.. is niese pitching still??

cousinrk March 6, 2009 at 1:47 pm

2008 first-round pick Reese Havens has been scratched from Friday’s lineup with a strained left hamstring. Jose Coronado has replaced him at shortstop, batting ninth.

UPDATE: Angel Pagan also has been scratched, with a sore right elbow. He’s been replaced by Cory Sullivan.

This is from Adam Rubin’s Blog. That’s why Havens isn’t starting

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 1:49 pm

thanks, cousin!

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 1:48 pm

can one of our starters get through a two innings without giving up runs?

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:48 pm

Yes, 2-0 Stl. Gameday “wiped” how they scored too fast for me to note it, and I can’t copy and paste it. Seemed like a double and a pa$$ed ball by Schneider were involved. Niese still pitching as far as I can tell yes.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Neise gave up a two-run single to Greene, after Schneider let let the runners move to second and third with a pas*sed-ball

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Bottom 2nd, Niese pitching:

Walked Ankiel, K’s Ludwick, Duncan gets a hit, Greene 2 RBI hit, Larue gets out somehow, Rasmus walks, and then Schumaker is out.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 1:49 pm

Khalil Greene looks very good so far.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Carpenter is out for the Cards. Kyle McClellan on the mound for the top of the 3rd.

playtheyoung March 6, 2009 at 1:51 pm

Manual is starting to get me upset, he continues to play a bunch of Scrubs insted of giving some young guys a shot………….

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 1:54 pm

We’re unfortunatley counting on these scrubs to fill the bench and save us when somebody hits the DL.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:54 pm

well, those scrubs are part of the ML roster squad.. good luck to us then..

BillyDeeWilliams March 6, 2009 at 1:55 pm

the problem is that the “scrubs” are fighting for the last couple spots on the team, and it’s more important for him to see these guys than the kids who won’t see the big show at all this year.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 1:57 pm

i shareyour frustration, but the reality is some of the scrubs are going to make the club while none of the kids are going to get that shot.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:54 pm

Valentin singled, Murphy and Kielty struck out, Sullivan flied out. Niese out, Antonini in.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:55 pm

2-0 Cards going into the bottom of the 3rd.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 1:56 pm

I realy hope Murph stays within himself. If he tries to do to much he will have a tough time.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 1:57 pm

he’ll be fine.. he’s very mature and seems to understand the game.. he’ll be a good player for us.. or so i hope..

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Thanks Grave!!

And Rusty told me to tell you that Roy Lee Jackson and Kelvin Chapman said hi….

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:01 pm

to borrow a line from Joe Beningo, “Oh the pain.”

cjr126 March 6, 2009 at 1:57 pm

it looks to me like it’s going to be either livan hernandez or tim redding for 5th spot and neither of them exactly inspires a lot of confidence in me.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Niese’s line:

2IP 2H 2R 2ER 2BB 2K

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 1:58 pm

Wow, what a line for liar’s poker!!

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:06 pm

22 two’s

Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 March 6, 2009 at 2:09 pm

“That’s 22 twos for y’all gangstas out there”

Jerry-Z

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:14 pm

LOL, that’s better than “keepin it gangsta”

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:31 pm

LMAO..

playtheyoung March 6, 2009 at 2:00 pm

I would like to know what team abreu and kielty are making, maybe the long island duckes.

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:05 pm

Bobby Kielty is a dangerous right handed hitter… something this team could use on the bench. He’ll go to AAA and will likely play for the Mets at some point.

Remember, 15 players played in the OF for the Mets last season…

And relax, it’s March 6, 2009… split squad games haven’t even started.

Also, Michel Abreu will likely be the starting 1B in Buffalo. He’s got a chance of a call-up if Delgado gets hurt, especially if Evans is already here.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:14 pm

Bobby Kielty is a dangerous right handed hitter”

wow.. WOW.. too much praised for a guy who didn’t even played last year.. hmm..

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:21 pm

Career as a RH hitter: .296 .379 .503

Is he washed up? Maybe. But that’s what Spring Training is for… to find out.

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:21 pm

By the way, you still haven’t answered my question in the other topic.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:29 pm

u still with that huh? ur not gonna make me change my opinion, with that being said that was last year, and we should focus on what’s going on THIS year ok..

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:33 pm

There is no one here more full of (you know what) than you.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:36 pm

see.. i just came to the coclusion u plain and simple don’t like me and that’s ok, but do me a favor don’t reply or post on anything wit my name on it ok..

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:42 pm

1. you replied to my post.

2. this is a public forum. if you don’t like it when people tell you that you are f.o.s. then don’t post here.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:47 pm

ok wanny, again, speakin as if ur the VP of this blog..

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:53 pm

After you told me that I should not respond to your posts…?

Do you see something hypocritical there?

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:55 pm

no i don’t..

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:55 pm

By the way, are you going to explain to me how David Wright was “un-clutch” despite how well he late in close games, in high leverage situations and in games within 1 or 2 runs?

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Of course, you don’t… I asked you to think. I shoul dhave known better.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:00 pm

Mather singled, Pujols DOUBLE PLAY, Ankiel ground out.

2-0 Cards entering top 4.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:07 pm

Abreu, Reed and Schneider all grounded out.

2-0 Cards entering bottom 4.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:09 pm

lol, pujols DOUBLE PLAY got me dying over here.. lol i take it u DON’T like him either huh..

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Well, I’d love him if he was playing for the Mets. There is no denying his talents….

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:17 pm

agree, but he rubs ppl as a jerk.. idk what it is about him, i don’t like him, but he’s the best hitter in the gam right now..

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:24 pm

He just has that certain something that comes across as being cocky. Hanley Ramirez rubs me the same way that Pujols does.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Just knocking him down a peg.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:09 pm

Another 1-2-3 inning for the “b” Mets.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 2:14 pm

you mean the “c” mets?

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:18 pm

“B-” Mets, be nice.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 2:25 pm

i thought i was being nice. i was going to call them the “F” mets.

playtheyoung March 6, 2009 at 2:12 pm

The yankees have no problem giving brackman a look even though he hasnt pitched in the minors yet.But we cant give Brad holt a look in spring. If we would of given Matt lindstum a look a few years ago maybe we would still have him.

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:15 pm

From the Daily News:

“Holt isn’t in camp, but he should now begin making limited Grapefruit League appearances on loan from the minor-league side as the Mets reopen after an off-day.”

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 2:14 pm

what i want to know is why is f-mart even in camp when he never plays?

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:16 pm

He’s on limited duty with an arm injury. He has DH’d in intrasquad games.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 2:24 pm

I know about his injury, but why not DH during real ST games?

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:40 pm

Beats me.

MetsUpstate March 6, 2009 at 2:45 pm

You’re wrong. He has DH-ed or PH in all but two games this ST. (The only two he missed was this Wed @ Wash and last Thursday vs Fla)

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:15 pm

Im the kind of person that has great faith in developing young players, however I continue to get the feeling that murphy just isnt going to cut it. for a person that has tremendous discipline at the plate the mans average contibues to drop game in and game out. Hes not even getting on base, does anyone else have something to say about this?

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Yes. It’s March 6.

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:22 pm

you have a point Wanny, but it is ST and hes facing all kind of bumb pitching. for all the hitting this guy does hes not showing alot for it. I kinda hope Pagan makes it, I loved waching him last year and I had the chance to meet him while at the bar (holiday inn) on the corner up the block from shea. he was eating there with is family, good down to earth kind of guy. Good Luck Pagan !

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 2:28 pm

how many at bats has he had?

nrmax88 March 6, 2009 at 2:38 pm

I will say this as nicely as possible. If you don’t think D. murphy can cut it as a major leaguer, yet want Angel Pagan on the team instead, you may be clinically insane. Pagan stinks. He has no baseball IQ and is a complete waste of talent. Pagan is garbage.

gipper82475 March 6, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Alwayswright,

What, pray tell, is a bumb? I know what a bum is….but bumb???

As for your overall point, it is way too early to tell with Murph.

metsman69 March 6, 2009 at 2:27 pm

Murph triples in two runs, then scores on a ground out. 3-2 Mets….

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Murph just tripled to drive in two runs.

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:28 pm

I don’t get that feeling. At least not yet anyway. Wright is a great hitter and he goes into long slumps where he looks like he has no clue, so you should give it more time.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Ludwick fly out, Duncan and Greene ground out.

2-0 Cards entering top 5.

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Atleast Castillo continues to draw walks, and thats what we want from him, gettin on base no matter how it happens. I glad we didnt get rid of him, For all ou guys out there wanting to get rid of him, IN YOUR FACE! you call yourselves met fans but dont know how to stick with its players when they’re down and out. Way to root for your team! once again im glad we didnt get rid of him!

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 2:27 pm

your comment would have had more weight if it was September 6 and not March 6.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 2:28 pm

not that i don’t want him to succeed or anything…it’s just so early.

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:32 pm

If you want to use that logic, Cory Sullivan blasted a game tying walk off 2-run home run the other day. So does that mean that Omar is a genius for signing him for having a huge clutch hit in an exhibition game in March?

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Chan, Sullivan isnt exactly playin everyday like Murphy. and thers no hype surrounding Sullivan, better luck next time buddy

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:38 pm

Regardless, saying “in your face” to the doubters simply because Castillo has looked better than last year in less than 20 spring training at bats doesn’t hold water.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:26 pm

Coronado ground out, Castillo walk, Valentin single’s Castillo to 3rd, Murphy triples in Castillo and Valentin, Kielty grounder scores Murphy, Sullivan flies out.

3-2 Mets entering bottom 5. Kunz replaces Antonini.

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:28 pm

NIce Murphy got a triple!

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Hmmmm.. what does that remind me of… hmm i wonder

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm

whats your point alex? its not like i said the kid is done, i juss wonder if hes not all that hes cracked up to be!

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm

He’s reminding us that Murphy hit a leadoff triple in a game last season yet didn’t score. This being a 2RBI triple, I think the comparison is a stretch.

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 2:38 pm

lol, jeez man relax. i was just kidding as in that triple reminded me of that “at bat” dwright had last year after murphy triple.. again i was kidding..

mrBill aka DWright March 6, 2009 at 2:49 pm

lol, jeez man relax. i was just kidding as in that triple reminded me of that “at bat” dwright had last year after murphy triple.. again i was kidding..

uh oh alex, you just hit that nerve….

alex.422 March 6, 2009 at 3:42 pm

LMAO..

man..

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:30 pm

For your info casey, it doesnt really matter if its march or sept, the man is showin that he is returning to his former self. lets be realistic here. castillo not such a great hitter but he gets on base. and for him to come out ST and do it says alot on his behalf. Come on Castillo show them your worth the 6 mil a year!

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:35 pm

Getting on base is nice and all, but he needs to hit too. At least .280 or above. The .245 average he had last year is not going to cut it, even if he has close to 100 walks.

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:37 pm

yea your right Chan, he needs to hit. and i believe he will be at .285 atleast. the man has done it constantly through out his career(hit 300)

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:42 pm

.285 would be just fine. I hope he does it. He just looked so horrible last year that I have a hard time envisioning him hitting .300, even though he’s done it throughout his career (only because I never really watched him that closely until last year).

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm

yea Chan, i dont blame you, i was actually pretty shocked when i checked his stats,

nrmax88 March 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm

I am reasonably confident that Castillo will give us a .280/.360 line this year, with more speed. That is what he has always done, and last year was horrible, but I think it was pretty flukey. Honestly I wouldn’t even be shocked with a .300/.375 line either. He looks to have his legs back right now and that is a big part of his game.

casey s. March 6, 2009 at 3:02 pm

for my info, huh? what do you think i’m a 12 year old or something?

it’s ST. his issues are about health. let’s see him hold up over the season and be productive.

i don’t know why i had to spell that out.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Kunz getting his first action of the Spring.

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 2:40 pm

And he gave up a run on a double and triple.
At least Pujols is out of the game now. He can’t score the game winning run – lol.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Kunz gives the run right back. 3-3

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:39 pm

La Rue ground out, Rasmus double, Schumaker triples in Rasmus, Mather grounds out, Pujols walk, Ankiel strikes out.

3-3 tie entering top 6.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm

5 substitutions for the Cards, not going to list them except new pitcher Ian Ostlund.

Chan Ho Parking Lot March 6, 2009 at 2:44 pm

Boy, Kunz just seems to be one of those pitchers who is just hittable.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Bases loaded 0 outs

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:47 pm

for the Mets*

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:46 pm

3 walk bases loaded no outs

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:49 pm

You mean, a single and 2 walks

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Top 6 Abreu singles, Reed walks, Evans PH for Schneider walks, bases loaded Ostland out, Manning on the mound for Cards.

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:47 pm

maybe a hit and 2 walks, my bad

ravi3 March 6, 2009 at 2:51 pm

Does anyone else think that the fact that Nick Evans looks like a bada-ss in his game day picture is funny, considering how he looks like a scared child who just wet himself when he is up at the plate?

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Jerry Manuel can only do so much with his Photoshop Gangsta 2.6 program.

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:53 pm

LMAO hes a poser

alwayswright March 6, 2009 at 2:54 pm

damn this gameday is moving so slow!!!!!!

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:56 pm

1 run out of it…4-3 Mets.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Coronado lined out, Green singled in Abreu, Valentin struck out, Murphy flew out.

4-3 Mets entering bottom 6. Adam Bostick on the mound for the Mets.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Adam Bostick in now.

foul bunt strikeout March 6, 2009 at 3:08 pm

wow can this friday just end already?

how is bostick doing?

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 3:09 pm

No udates yet.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:10 pm

While waiting to see how many runs Bostick is giving up, I’ll practice my sportscaster schtick:

Minnesota up 2-0 on Cincinnati in the 8th;
Boston over Florida 5-2 in the 6th;
Tampa Bay big over Pittsburgh 8-2 in the 6th;
and in the Beltway Brawl, Baltimore leads Washington
6-1 in the 5th.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 3:13 pm

4-4 tie

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Ludwick pops out, Barton walks, Khalil Greene grounds into fielders choice, 2 out, Brendan Ryan running for Greene steals 2nd and to 3rd on Rivera throwing error, PH Allen Craig singles in Ryan 4-4 score, Craig caught stealing to end the inning.

4-4 tie, Mitchell Boggs on the mound for the Cards top 7.

vinluvr March 6, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Looks like Bostick gave up 1’s: 1 H 1 BB 1 R. 0 K.

And 0 chance of making the team.

metsin080910 March 6, 2009 at 3:14 pm

Bostick let up a single, runner advanced to third after an error on a throw down to the second baseman on a steal attempt, let up another single to drive him in. Caught stealing ends the inning.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:18 pm

Anderson PH for Kielty singled, Sullivan and Abreu flew out, Reed grounded out.

4-4 middle 7. Duaner Sanchez takes the hill.

BillyDeeWilliams March 6, 2009 at 3:20 pm

i know it’s early in spring training and a lot of these guys won’t even make the team, but if there are this many walks when the regular season comes around, i’m gonna punchasize someone’s face.

foul bunt strikeout March 6, 2009 at 3:23 pm

just order a large, farva

ravi3 March 6, 2009 at 3:36 pm

NO! I want a LITEROCOLA!

foul bunt strikeout March 6, 2009 at 3:49 pm

The video footage of Farva jumping over the counter and going nuts on the wise a-s-s worker is hysterical.

I gotta try that poke a hole in a drink move

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:29 pm

Bottom 7, Sanchez pitching. Rasmus walks, Schumaker lines out, Barden flies out, Jay walks (yeah I said it), Ankiel lines out.

4-4 heading into the 8th.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:31 pm

Should be a big inning for the Mets with Rivera, Coronado and Green scheduled to bat.

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 3:33 pm

Is anyone watching? Curious to see how Coronado “looks” since he’s being fast tracked through the system somewhat, despite a performance that hasn’t realy justified it.

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 3:40 pm

Plus defenders (especially at SS) always get special treatment, though he’ll likely hang back in AAA unless Reyes or Cora get injured and we need a new backup. Think Argenis Reyes or Anderson Hernandez.

I wish I could watch, too!

Wanny2 March 6, 2009 at 3:48 pm

It may also have to do with making room at Binghamton for someone else. Good glove or not, .260 .335 .314, does not warrant a promotion.

metinDC23 March 6, 2009 at 4:09 pm

.260 is way better than what he did before being promoted through the lower levels. His fast-track makes it look like F-Mart and Pelfrey were brought along slowly…

I think Coronado does have some potential though- definitly more than A. Reyes ever had. Also if you look at his splits from last year he had a much better second half and a good winter-league showing. Its possible his bat is just catching up to the speed he’s been rushed through the org at.

If Castillo goes down for an extended period I could see Coronado being brought up- and I think he’d be a much better option than A. Reyes was last year.

At the minor league page Toby Hyde has him ranked somewhere in the 20’s his prospect list- you should read the write up on him if your interested.

TheBigStapler March 6, 2009 at 4:10 pm

In the VWL this year he hit .308/.373/.429 in 27 games.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:34 pm

Rivera and Green strike out sandwiched around Coronado’s line out. Big inning indeed.

4-4 middle 8. Carlos Muniz takes the mound.

GravediggerHebner March 6, 2009 at 3:39 pm

Apologies to my vast audience but I must go, remember to bookmark the gameday link posted close to the top of this thread to help make me obsolete. Let’s Go Mets!

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 3:47 pm

Muniz: 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth. 1 K, two ground outs.
Top of the ninth.

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 3:58 pm

Valentine singles, goes to second on a ground out back to the pitcher by Murphy, Marlon singles Valentine home.
That’s it for the top of the 9th. Going to the bottom.
5-4 Mets.

QnsNative1718 March 6, 2009 at 3:59 pm

Nice. Marlon huh?

ProudMetFan March 6, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Nice job – to you and to the Mets for winning.

QnsNative1718 March 6, 2009 at 4:07 pm

Dont think the games over though. It was going into the bottom of the 9th, no?

MetsFan4Decades March 6, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Correct but it’s over now. 5-4 Mets.

SantanaClause March 6, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Put it in the books game over Mets win 5-4

stickguy March 6, 2009 at 4:29 pm

2 games in a row they win it in the 9th.

Maybe 2009 will be an “up” year for clutchness? Will have to check with Alex…

NostraDennis March 6, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Troubling factoid, Mets fans. I know it’s early, and I know many of the regulars are playing hookey with the rest of the world, but…

Mets pitching is issuing 5 walks per game, dead last in the majors.

I’m just saying…
