The Mets and Nationals tied, 5–5, today after 10 innings in Viera.
- John Maine let up five runs, thanks to home runs from Elijah Dukes and Brad Eldred. Maine gave up five hits, walked two and struck out two in three innings. Later, Maine told reporters he felt good on the mound, adding, “I was right there, just barely missing.”
- Cory Sullivan was 3 for 3 with two walks, one RBI and a run scored.
- Marlon Anderson was 3 for 4, though he left two runners on base, and is batting .421 this spring.
- Nick Evans had a two-out RBI.
- Ryan Church is now batting .308 this spring.
- Jose Valentin was hitless in three at bats, he also committed a fielding error.
- Darren O’Day pitched a scoreless inning, letting up one hit, but getting three ground ball outs – he has a 1.50 ERA this spring.
- Robert Parnell, Kyle Snyder, Ron Villone, Rocky Cherry and Eddie Kunz each pitched a scoreless inning as well.
The Mets are off tomorrow, and return to action on Thursday, March 12, when Johan Santana will make his spring debut against the Marlins at 7 pm, in Tradition Field, live on SNY.

I know Mets fans will be up in arms because Maine let up 5 runs, but the most important news item was that Maine felt good.
Since all Mets fans will be up in arms over Maine’s performance and you are not up in arms then by definition you are not a Mets fan. :)
I’m in agreement. As long as he doesn’t allude to something causing pain, and his velocity is where it should be at, I’m hoping his mechanics will be soon to follow before the season starts…
Evans is looking really good. Given the competition for bench spots, I prefer him playing everyday in Buffalo to start the season, but I like Evans a lot.
Kunz pitched two scoreless, really more like 2 1/3 because of the defense. I’m interested to see how he does as the closer in Buffalo.
Did they decide to stop using FMart as a DH/PH?
I know Mets fans will be up in arms because Maine let up 5 runs,
Only 3 Met fans…… the rest are very optimistic on the subject.
fwiw, listening to the radio, it sounded like that second shot was wind assisted. granted, that decription came from the thoroughly mediocre nats radio crew, so take that with a grain of salt.
I’m starting to get the feeling O’Day will take Sanchez’s spot in the pen. Nice rule V pickup for Omar.
Prob’ly closer to the truth saying he’ll take the Smith/Bradford role– ROOGY/we-need-a-double-play-grounder guy, with occasional one-inning appearances.
I for one am very concerned about the bullpen I love K rod and putz I am good with Feliciano. I think Green is just ok look at his stats. Who do we really have after these four?
Stokes-never been succsesfull in the majors
was ok for a short time last year
why did Tampa let him go?
Redding- Is a starter not middle man. Has ok stuff as a starter. Does not strike hiiters out gives up more then a hit per inning.
Ron Villone…please his era is consistantly close to 5 runs a game and he is no spring chicken it will only get worse. who are the rest of the canidates..
Darren Oday, De los santos
Conner Robertson, Elmer Dessens
Rocky Cherry, Casey freakin Fossum, Tom Martin
what a bunch of castoffs Take a look at there STATS they all suc*()^
I cannot believe we are not looking at ohman, Beimel two good lefties who are dirt cheap and would help against the tough lefties from philidelphia. Instead of using the bunch of cast offs I would prefer to go with young guys like parnel, Kunz. , Knight or even Muniz I hope Omar has some ideas or K rod and Putz arms will fall off.
I won’t worry about Maine yet ,by the end of March and if he is still pitching this way then we have problems
Maine is a warrior with a bulldog mentality. He tends to beat himself up after innings like this but he will get better and better as ST progresses. We just need him to be healthy and he will provide us with quality starts.
He didn’t look all that depressed tonight at dinner. Was eating with a hot piece of blonde tail. Also was joking around with Pelfrey from across the restaurant
I think Nick Evans came up the system as a first baseman. I wonder if Evans can be the guy to take over at first when Delgado eventually leaves. I know the Mets have Ike Davis but I don’t know when he’ll be ready for the show.
so now with sanchez gone…how is the rest of the bullpen going to work out? O’Day looks really good, Parnell, Synder, Cherry, Redding (long man)? how many spots are there after Putz, K-Rod, Green, and Feleciano? 3?
Went to the game. Maine made two bad pitches really. Wasn’t helped by the infield D at all. Three balls scored hits that could or should have been errors. Throwing 93-94 all 3 innings. Dukes just guessed fastball, got one and hit it a mile.
By the way, for all the Murphy lovers, Daniel Murphy sat next to HoJo and Warthen for 8 innings, got up in the 9th, took one swing, tied the game, and his day was done.
