Links: Phillies Fans, Endy, Bench and Pedro

by Matthew Cerrone

Today at noon, Mets beat writer David Lennon will chat with online fans at his blog for Newsday, as will beat writer Adam Rubin, also at noon, on his blog for the Daily News.

interesting… let’s call it Battle of the Online Chats… i wonder who will get more participants… good luck, guys

Yesterday, NBC Philadelphia and the 700 Level posted the Mets.com password, REYES, for Citi Field’s pre-sale for games in April and May, so Phillies fans could try to infiltrate the two-game series with the Mets in early May.

whatever… we go through this every season, it seems, and it’s always the same mix of fans, in both stadiums… i’m actually starting to enjoy the rivalry, and so this no longer bothers me like it once did

In a post to the New York Times, Tyler Kepner talks with Mariners OF Endy Chavez, about ‘the Catch,’ and being traded by the Mets.

Dave Singer of NY Sports Dog asks, ‘Who makes the Mets bench?”

Similarly, Eric Simon of Amazin Avenue updates his Make-the-Mets-O-Meter, noting the chances of Marlon Anderson, Nick Evans and Cory Sullivan improved in the last week.

Lastly, the Brooklyn Met Fan says, ‘If Pedro will accept an incentive laden deal BMF is back in the camp of Let’s sign Pedro… If he holds us up for 7 or 8M guaranteed then we pass.”

Only problem was, the REYES pre-sale only starts on Tuesday while everyone else with half a brain already bought most of the tickets on Sunday using KROD.

kistics March 11, 2009 at 10:12 am

Did not know KROD was there. Dang. I did get good seats with REYES though.

I guessed at KRod and got some awesome seats for games. I’m sitting in ‘just foul’ homerun territory for the Thursday Phillies game up in the Pepsi Porch, and I’ve got tickets fourth row down the line fair on the overhang for another game.

What was the KROD presale for anyway? I know ‘WRIGHT’ was the Monday presale for Club Mets.

KFS March 11, 2009 at 12:46 pm

Season ticket holders.

Ceetar March 11, 2009 at 10:18 am

Besides, unless the Phillies are hot, the fans won’t show up to the Citi, cause they’re pansies. Prior to Sept ‘07, you had a better chance at catching a foul ball than seeing a Phillies fan at Shea.

MrDudeAndStuff March 11, 2009 at 10:30 am

Hasn’t Metsblog on many occasions posted presale websites and codes for Citizens Bank Park with the same intentions, even going as far to claim that it is a way to keep the Mets fans out of CBP?

Don’t act like it is an exclusive club and one sided affair.

GravediggerHebner March 11, 2009 at 11:08 am

I can’t deny anything you’ve said, but don’t you think when the mainstream media (NBC Philadelphia) gets involved, that’s taking it a bit too far?

MrDudeAndStuff March 11, 2009 at 11:11 am

Since Metsblog has a partnership with SNY, you can make the argument that this is part of the mainstream media.

GravediggerHebner March 11, 2009 at 12:52 pm

I would say it’s a weak argument, but sure you can make it. Comparing the website of Philadelphia’s NBC affiliate to a website that is linked to the website of a sports network seems a stretch to me.

Ultimately I am not up in arms about any of this. It strikes me as part of a budding rivalry, which is something our favorite teams have been developing recently, but which still has a ways to go in my opinion before it can be truly regarded as such.

number15 March 11, 2009 at 11:49 am

splitting hairs

Ceetar March 11, 2009 at 11:10 am

The difference is the Mets are releasing secret codes to the Mets fans in advance, Phillies are sending out random public access emails last minute to Phillies fans a day early to say they decided to open it early.

MrDudeAndStuff March 11, 2009 at 11:14 am

They are the ticket sellers and as it says in all of their disclaimers, they have the right to sell those tickets however they please, including presale secret ticket codes exclusive to their own fans, such as the Mets are doing.

There is no difference here. Every professional sports team does this.

JSC1968 March 11, 2009 at 10:36 am

I agree w/ BMF, but let’s show him some respect as well. But, I definitely want Pedro back w/ us.

Our rotation is scary in a bad way.

NewYorkMetfanatic62 March 11, 2009 at 10:42 am

the phillies fans are still riding high of the world series championship (and rightfully so) i expect Citi Field to be packed with phillies fans.

nmigliore March 11, 2009 at 11:27 am

haha is this how desperate philly is? lol whatever we’ll just sell out their stadium anyway like we always do

bkfitz March 11, 2009 at 11:58 am

Calling this a rivalry is a joke. All that happens is players talk smack in ST, Brett Myers tries and fails miserably to make a movie analogy, and then nothing happens. There are a few good games between them each year but no more than other good teams.

We’ll call it a rivalry when there’s as much history as LA/SF, Yankees/Sox, Cubs/Cards.

loqiel March 11, 2009 at 12:20 pm

The Phillies are the ones who won the World Series. They’re the ones that are flying the red banner with “2008″ on it. Anything the Mets or Mets fans have to say about inferiority complexes or being better than them or 11-7 is invalid.

On another note, it’s good to see Reyes brought a winning mentality to the Dominican WBC team.

foul bunt strikeout March 11, 2009 at 12:27 pm

yes b/c Reyes was a main part of why the DR lost in the WBC.

What about Big Papi? Pretty sure he has been part of 2 world series winners in the past 5 years.

Yet you don’t mention how his winning mentality had no effect on their team

I can’t say anything about your 2008 WS banner…your team earned it and kudos to them.

But bringing up your rival during WS parades when you should just be euphoric about winning screams of an inferiority complex.

loqiel March 11, 2009 at 12:39 pm

It’s good to know Mets fans were so interested in the Phillies World Series parade. God knows that couldn’t possibly smack of feeling inferior. If the Mets ever win the World Series again, their parade would be the last thing I watched/followed/paid any attention to any news about.

I also enjoy various Mets borrowing the “team to beat” line. I guess if you say it often enough, the odds will come home sometime.

foul bunt strikeout March 11, 2009 at 12:47 pm

well in the age of sports blogs, NY media pointing it out when it occured and ESPN’s extensive covergae of these type of events…not too hard to hear about the remarks made at a championship parade.

team to beat line – wish they’d forget using it. you got me on that one.

enjoying the trash talk btw

loqiel March 11, 2009 at 1:09 pm

I get a lot of practice. My brother and I grew up in northeast PA, so I became a Phillies fan and he became a Mets fan (he really loved Ron Darling). We talk lots. In fact we’re going to catch a game at Citi sometime this year, although we don’t know when yet. That’s partly why the presale things caught my eye.

Yeah the “team to beat” line needs to be buried. New material is necessary!

I think the Mets are going to miss Pedro as a fifth starter because he wasn’t afraid to fill someone’s earhole. Do they have a guy like that who’s a starter now? It’s important to have, and I’ll give an example: I knew the Phils were going to beat the Dodgers when Brett Myers threw behind Manny in Game 2 and no one retaliated. You couldn’t have dug the Dodgers a grave big enough. Sure, they threw over Victorino’s head in Game 3, but by that time it was too late, way too late.

Yeah Myers and his wife are both crazy and they fight like two betta fish in a single tank, but when it comes down to it, he’ll plunk anyone if it’s called for. You need that guy.

ddouma75 March 11, 2009 at 1:07 pm

why are phillies fans responding to a metsblog.do you not have your philly blog.shows being a mets fan i dont care what the phillies are doing dont know if you have a blog and also was one of the lucky fans able to purchase tix yesterday and got the first weekend series not even thinking of getting tickets against the phillies( and isnt a philly a pretty cowgirl)

loqiel March 11, 2009 at 1:13 pm

I’m here because I keep up on Mets news for my brother who’s in the military, and sometimes I can’t resist commenting or posting observations. As for the rest of your barely-intelligible response, I have tickets for twenty-one Phillies games as it stands now because I got a partial ticket package, so I didn’t need a silly presale for Phillies games, and didn’t bother to use the presale for Mets tickets.

MrDudeAndStuff March 11, 2009 at 1:18 pm

You should probably happily remind Mets fans about that who post at Philly blogs.

And a Philly (or filly) is a race horse.

ddouma75 March 11, 2009 at 1:26 pm

yeah my bad a horse a female horse.

ddouma75 March 11, 2009 at 1:28 pm
