Links: Free Tickets, Bullpen, Pagan, World Champs

By Matthew Cerrone on Mar 13, 2009, 1:34 pm

If you are unable to afford a ticket to Citi Field, Get Mets Tickets will hear your case and give you free tickets if you’re worthy.

Johan Santana is 30 years old today.

Michael Ganci of the Daily Stache lists 13 things that are on Santana’s birthday wish list.

Sam Borden of the Journal News thinks the Mets should think twice before declaring that their bullpen is cured.

Andrew Beaton of Hot Fot wonders if Angel Pagan’s injury is a blessing in disguise for the Mets.

Matt Tracy wonders, with the WBC, if World Champions is the wrong name for MLB’s World Series winner.

Lastly, the Long Island Mets Fan asks, “Are The Mets More Brooklyn Dodgers Or NY Giants?”

Borden: “Two great relievers, both used to finishing games and pitching under pressure, now taking over the last two innings of games the Mets desperately need. Of course it will work, won’t it? Won’t it? Truth is, no one knows. ”

Fascinating take. That’s why they are going to play the season numnuts. Thanks for wasting my time.

Fact: The pen was not bad, they were terrible. The team had to score 15 runs to win and even then you would be sweating bullets. I am not worried anymore about the end of the game we will be fine from the 8-9, so chill. This will take pressuer off the hitters and should put more pressuer on th eother team to score early. I am more worried about Delgado. What version will we get?

I agree. I understand that writers sometimes need to come up with stuff to print, but what more could the mets have done. Now all we can do is wait it out. No need to tell me it MIGHT work or it MIGHT fail.

      Borden says:
“By adding both Francisco Rodriguez and J.J. Putz this winter, the Mets put themselves in position to be the first team ever to go a full season with two legitimate, bona fide, in-their-prime closers on the roster. ”

Umm…the 1978 Yankees (Lyle & Gossage) say “Hi!”

How about no Show letting 150 inherited runners score and no Heilman giving up 30 go ahead HR’s?

Yea, its great that Pagan went down so we can choose a lesser quality/lesser potential player.
On a side note, happy Bday to me and Santana!

Sam Borden’s article is a fluff piece, no substance and no real merit on a slow news day.

I just realized I may have to register with a new username. “PromenadeReserved4Life” doesn’t quite have that nice ring to it though.

Hey man I never even noticed how similar our usernames are. I have been thinking the same thing recently about making a change.

I agree that Promenade Dweller doesn’t have quite the same ring to it…

Enough with the expensive tickets… For games I am not attending in my Prom Reserve seats I am looking for face value… It’s not $150 a ticket for the Promenade…

I have the 15 game Saturday/Weekday plan, promenade, section 532. For 2 seats, it cost just over $500.

That comes out to less than $20 per seat per game.

    I call that reasonable…

Damn straight… Too much misinformation out there…

      I have full seasons… $25 pergame… Not awful

Unable to afford Mets tickets? There are thousands upon thousands of seats priced right in line with Shea – why do people want to perpetuate this myth that CitiField is…Yankee Stadium?

    • janss36
      Mar 13, 2009, 3:47 pm at 3:47 pm #

It’s the whole idea that Citi field equates to Shea in terms of views, etc…

Trust me, it isn’t even close… The Promenade Prices are affordable compared to the view you get… It’s insane to prepetuate the myth of no affordable seats…

Hopefully at some point the operative word becomes “available” and not “affordable.”

This will be the primary issue.

As Yogi might say, if affording Mets tickets is a problem for you, your problem isn’t affording Mets tickets.

The Journal News story doesn’t really seem to apply to Putz and Rodriguez. Yeah he gives statistics of how unprecedented the situation is but glosses over the actual personalities of the Mets’ two closers. It is apparent that both men got to their elite position in baseball not just because of their skills, but also their persistent intensity.

You cannot predict how a pitcher will fare but you can project the attitude with which they will approach the game. Based on spring training I do not anticipate chemistry or intensity being a problem for the Mets bullpen in 2009.
