David Lennon at Newsday asks Tom Glavine about Pedro Martinez‘s recent comment that he would not accept a deal similar to Glavine’s incentive
laden, $1 million contract.
Glavine replied that “you have to be mindful what the market is”, and that he didn’t want to become a burden to his team if he became injured.
On Thursday, Jon Heyman of SI.com reported that the Mets may have offered Martinez $1-2 million, plus incentives.
…i think tommy is right-on here, whoever spends $5 million on pedro is way overpaying…if heyman’s report is true, i’m glad the mets didn’t overextend themselves but atleast made a performance-based offer to pedro…
