I’m at the Mets Clubhouse store in Manhattan, waiting to film a segment for Mets Weekly, and the store is still selling Endy Chavez, Kaz Matsui, Tom Glavine and Paul LoDuca t-shirts for $7.99.
Hilarious.
The guy says he last sold a LoDuca shirt around the holidays.

Have these guys ever heard of the Salvation Army and the accounting term “write off?”
i really liked lo duca as a met and will consider purchasing that shirt at the discounted price
Well, we now know that Paul Lo Duca posts as “number15″. You wore 16, right?
Kidding. I like Lo Duca, too. Before you drop $ on the T-shirt, however, I saw his “authentic” jersey on sale at MLB.com for $40, which is something like 70% off.
I would buy an endy chavez shirt. :)
totally!!
Me too!
I swear I saw a Hidalgo jersey on the clearance rack at the 42nd street store just last summer.
HAHAHA! You are correct Shea. I saw it too. I love that store!
i saw a guy at shea last season with an eli marrero jersey. i still, for the life of me, can’t figure out why he would do that to himself.
He did hit a bomb off Randy Johnson at Yankee Stadium. That is worth something.
in 06 a friend from an old job and I were going to a game together for the first time. He wore a Mo Vaugh jersey. I almost slapped him until he told me that his last name was Vaughn. Maybe thats why that guy had a Marrero
that’s really the only explanation i could possible come up with as well.
What was Marerro’s number when he was with us? That should be able to give it away.
it’s great that you didn’t even know his last name haha
I will one up the Marrero jersey…Some how, I have ended up with a collection jersey T’s of terrible 2nd basemen we have had…Alomar, Matsui, and Baerga (that one was a gift…)…One day in 2007, I was headed to the Sunday night Subway Series game at Shea with two friends who needed to borrow Mets gear. I thought it would be kinda funny if the three of us wore those shirts….Imagine getting off the 7 train, and walking to Shea Stadium, behind 3 guys, wearing a Baerga, Alomar, and Matsui shirt (each was a different color of course, Baerga in blue, Alomar in orange, Kaz in black)….Lets just say we got a LOT of feedback about it, including one person willing to spring for a new shirt….It was also a really cold night, so we went into the clubhouse store to get a sweatshirts from the clearance isle….One of the workers there gave my friend in the Baerga shirt a free LoDuca shirt, to “get with the times”…….too bad they lost the game.
I bought a Alomar and Vaughn shirt at a local sports shop for ONE BUCK each …heheheheh Thats about all they are worth :}
The last one was bought around the holidays? Probably a mom or girlfriend that didn’t know they aren’t on the team anymore. I’d like to see the kids face when they got a Kaz Matsui jersey for christmas
Hey Matt I am down the block, swing by the Grace Building
Got any Mo Vaughn jerseys left?
Do you mean a tent?
I’m also around the corner…
Hey, any Murphy shirts yet?
I saw Murphy shirts at the Shea Stadium clubhouse shop (the one outside the stadium) in late September last year….Haven’t seen them anywhere else though.
8 dollars??
Either put a 2 dollar sticker on the shirt, or give them to the Salvation Army or those kids in Africa who got stuck with the New England Patriots Superbowl Champion t-shirts after the Giants won the SB. I’m not sure who’s buying that shirt at 8 dollars. If you want a cheap garbage t-shirt, walk outside that store and I’m sure you can get like 6 I <3 NY shirst for 8 dollars
8 bucks still seems like a lot of money for guys that aren’t even on the team anymore
It’s a “throwback.” Remember the good ol’ Lo Duca Mets of ’07!
Cautiously optimistic:
Our 2b posted a .354 OBP and 17 steals in 300 ABs with two bum knees last year. We have done a lot worse.
If he truly has recovered, put him down for .290 BA, .360 OBP, 25 steals and very good defense this year. In the non-steroid era, that’s practically an all-star.
Also, Delgado had surgery on both wrists a couple of years ago and now seems recovered and ready to make a final push for HOF status. Two more years of 35 HR, 100 RBI and a world championship and he is a first ballot – assuming no steroid rumors come out.
if they aren’t making thousands of Daniel Murphy t-shirts to be ready for opening day right now then they are crazy.
they ruined the player tshirt by putting the majestic logo right in the front anyway.
id pay $8 for an endy.
u’d have to pay me $40 to wear a glavine.
I am thinking about getting a murphy personalized pinstripe jersey but for $100+ i dont know if its worth the plunge….opinions?
if u are gonna spend for the jersey u have to go authentic. its all or nothing with the jerseys. and id go road jersey but thats just me.
You know the Murphy jerseys will be out the day after you paid for a personalized jersey. I’d just wait a bit.
I usually buy blank jerseys and bring them to Stiches in Whitestone.. they do the real jerseys for the Mets. I brought a blank one over and got it made into a Pelf jersey for $50
Anyone know if the Yankees store does this too?
Try to sell old jerseys of players that no longer play for the team?
it is kinda embaressing when u walk into a mets store looking for a murphy or pelfrey shirt andall u find is lo ducas and wagners.
It doesnt surprise me that the Mets store would do something like this….I seriously doubt the Yankees would .
I am pretty sure the Mets Clubhouse and the Yankees Clubhouse are all owned by MLB NOT the teams so to assume the stores would have different policies is pretty far fetched.
My fiance worked next door to the Yankee Clubhouse shop and they did sell ex-player shirts and jerseys. It is a clearance they have to try and move the merchandise.
Anyone who knows the clubhouse stores knows the player shirts and jerseys (current players) are always up on the wall not on a rack in the middle of the store. With that said it is usually a round rack and things are mixed in but this looks like they have a ton of them.

That’s all valid, except the Yankees must push harder. They were selling chamberlain shirts since his first pitch because they knew enough would buy them to profit. The Mets need to realize that they should get Pelfrey and Murphy and Maine and Perez and all that stuff out a little harder.
and whats worst is that they have the security tags on them, like who is really going to steal that?
It’s great that they still have the anti-theft device on all the Wagner shirts. Yep, that there’s a pretty hot item.
They also have a bunch of Pedro, Wagner and a few other authentic jerseys for 50% off (which is still a steep $120), as well as Wright, Reyes and other good player authentics at 50% because they are last year’s model with the Shea patch. I’d grab one but I already have pinstripe and black authentics, and the road grays aren’t on sale.
Not all jerseys of former players get discounted – they were still selling Piazza jerseys for full price as late as ’07.
Anyone else gonna go see if they can get on TV?
I would buy an Endy t-shirt. the rest, no thanks
hahah for a matsui, you should get $7 just to wear. And I mean by the hour.
I’ve been looking everywhere for a Backstra.
I received a Kaz Matsui jersey as a gift a few years ago. It still serves one very useful purpose: I can tell someone “I’ll be in section 14 wearing the Matsui jersey” and they have no trouble finding me.
I can one up you… I say that but I am the guy in the “Rico Brogna Jersey”
Nothing’s beats sitting in the stands with my Yoshii jersey, sipping a cold beer, and yelling out “Put in Yoshii!” Good times.
I swear, if they lower the price from $8, I would seriously consider buying enough shirts for my section to make it “Paul Lo Duca Day” at Promenade 428. That would be hilarious!
I just got back from the store. Matt and Julie are taping a general segment about the team’s prospects, after goofing on the expired-player merchandise (and the terrifying 3-foot-tall Kaz Matsui statue) still on sale.
I felt lik a tool just standing there (there is no one else in the shop but the employees) so I bailed.
I bought a 2007 and 2008 METS team jersey. Unfortunately, come September, it seems to fall apart.
hahaha
Hope to have better luck with the 2009 version.
Rico Brogna, anyone?
I JUST posted that about the guy in the Matsui Jersey…
I still have mine
I’m shocked I thought the Matsui jerseys would be flying off the shelves.
I will never understand why LoDuca is beloved by some Met fans. I just don’t get it
1) he had a great year in 2006.
2) he has a visible passion for the game, which fans love to see. i look back fondly on his tenure as a met because when your team seems to fizzle out at the end of the year with no sense of urgency or intensity (for the most part), sometimes you wish you had more players on your team that you know care deeply about winning

i don’t see how can be that hard too understand
really?
He was a Met for two years, had a good season behind the plate in 06, a below average one behind the plate. His 07 was horrible, yet he is absolutely beloved by some Met fans.
hey man…to each their own. We boo John Franco out of Shea, but love Paul LoDuca. I just don’t understand my fellow Met fans sometimes
he hit .318 that year and it was a special year. but really, this is why i feel the way i do: the last two years, what is the sentiment you get from the players in the post-game interviews during a tough stretch? it’s mostly a sullen, sad, disipointed feeling (this applies to reyes, wright, beltran, delgado, etc.). you’ll also get cookie-cutter answers like ‘we just have to play better’ or ‘we’re gonna put it behind us and go get ‘em tomorrow’. but the fans are more than just disappointed; they are angry, and they want to see the players just as angry as they are. lo duca was angry when things weren’t going well. he shared the feelings of the fanbase, unlike most other players, which is why he is an endearing personality, at least in my eyes. he was also candid and truthful to the media, while most others give you cliche after cliche and artfully say a lot without really saying anything
The people that booed Franco are halfwits. That was shameful. Sometimes Met fans are embarrassing.
Hey, I’d buy an Endy tee shirt – not the others though.
Endy and his contributions to this team made enough impact that ‘The Catch’ is forever immortalized as one of those steel figures around the new stadium…..
yes. endy will never be forgetten
In 2006 my wife wanted to buy a Mets t-shirt to wear to an upcoming game. She really wanted to get a Matsui shirt because she felt bad he was constantly getting booed. I tried to point her in the direction of the Wright shirts, but nope, she wanted to get a Matsui to show her support. I was just glad she was showing interest in the Mets.
On the day of the game she proudly donned her brand new Matsui shirt and her pink Mets cap. She was heckled for wearing that shirt while walking to the subway, on the subway, during the game, and on the trip back home. She was crushed. About a week later Matsui was traded and the shirt was briefly downgraded to gym attire before being thrown out.
haha funny story. maybe this season she should spring for a freddy garcia jersey? you might have to get it custom made though
I would pay them $10 not to stock a Castillo jersey. Look at it that way. They’re ransoming our dignity.

The issue with the new authentic jersey (all types) is that it has the awful “Inaugural” patch on it.
It looks even worse in person. It’s flippin’ HUGE!
i was wondering about that because online it’s look huge. i don’t get it.
so, i went to one of those third party companies and ordered an authentic road black (which seems rare these days because i can’t find it anywhere else). i’m getting it personalized with the number 5, but with no name.
iirc, the road black was discontinued. Only road grey now.
That’s what’s cool about it (at least to me). The guy had the road black in my size. The history is I ordered the road grey, but they couldn’t get it in stock (for some reason). So, the guy told me about this rare authentic road black he had. as a favor for making me wait so long on the grey that never materialized, he would give the me the road black.
If you think thats bad, wait till you see the Mo Vaughn and Robbie Alomar merch hangin around
What I don’t understand, since they’re all owned by MLB..why not ship these things to Houston (or whatever team they play on?) If I was a Mets fan in Houston, I just might wear a Mets Matsui shirt. This probably works even better for guys that switched leagues.
I’d be proud to wear an Endy jersey.
when i was just down at port st. lucie, they had this wheel you could spin to win prizes. one of the prizes, hand to god, was a kaz matsui pennant. a perfect gift for all fans! haha
