News: Ojeda and Carlin to host on SNY

By Matthew Cerrone on Mar 26, 2009, 1:27 pm

SNY finally announced today Bob Ojeda will be their lead studio analyst and Chris Carlin will be the new host for pre- and post-game.

ojeda once let me wear his 1986 World Championship Ring, while i waited in line to buy Opening Day Mets tickets at Shea Stadium back in 1999… back then, in the ‘old days,’ fans would line up around the stadium and be moved like cattle from bin to bin, in an orderly fashion, in advance of reaching the ticket window, where you’d lock up tickets… anyway, former players would often work the line, signing autographs, passing out hot chocolate and talking with fans… i miss that experience, as cold as it was

Also, according to the press release, “In addition, SNY will produce a comprehensive post-game show following every Mets game this season – including Mets games on PIX11, FOX and ESPN.  Darryl Strawberry will also be a contributing analyst.”

Why is Chris Carlin becoming the face of the network? He’s terrible, obnoxious and inarticulate.

I have 2 season tickets in Section 512, 6th row. I’m looking to sell some games… I’m not looking to rip people off at double the price, I just can’t make it to every game.. and would rather get my tickets to fellow Metsbloggers!! shoot me an email and let me know if youre interested.

          Thanks!

Nothing against Carlin as I don’t think there is anything that terrible with him, but I thought Matt Yalloff was pretty good. Am I mistaken for thinking that?

i happen to agree…i like Carlin on loudmouths, i think he’s alright on beer money, he was a good sidekick to Boomer and Carton on FAN, but i just don’t know if this is the correct role. especially following up loudmouths on SNY, i don’t see how he’ll go from bashing the team (on his show) to praising the team (in the pregame). it just seems they should have separate hosts.

I really hate looking at the TV when Carlin is talking,…Its like his tongue is too big for his mouth.

I must be mistaken but I thought that Carlin was not a Mets fan. I know that you don’t have to be a mets fan to host but it would have been nice. I say kick off Carlin and give me Joe Beningo.

+1 if you’re looking for a mets fan benigno belongs at the bottom of the list. i seriously think hes happier when the team is losing. why SNY picked these 2 jackasses i’ll never know. they sucked on the fan and they suck worse on tv.

I can’t stand Carlin. He actually makes me want to change the channel. He reminds me of a baseball version of Matt Pinfield. He’s just a little too much of a slob to be that smug.

Ugh. My reaction to Carlin is like everyone else’s. He is no Met fan, and is way too obnoxious for his own considerable ‘good’.
Heard him once on the FAN tear into a caller who had the temerity to question whether Jeter wasn’t part of the Yankees problem scoring and driving in runs last year. That’s all I needed to hear. Mini Me to Francessa is spot on.

    Mar 26, 2009, 2:35 pm at 2:35 pm #

I agree with the general tenor of the thread so far. I was quite happy with Yallof. I don’t know the circumstances of his departure. As-suming he was going to leave regardless, I find Carlin a poor choice of replacement, but I will be watching the pre and post game shows until he either wins me over or disappoints/frustrates me so much that I no longer can watch.

Is he going to still do Loudmouths at 6, then “morph” into a pregame show host a minute later?

      Mar 26, 2009, 2:39 pm at 2:39 pm #

I think the most surprising thing is that Carlin is just not an anchor (no pun). Yallof, like Jonas Schwartz on DNL, is an anchor, with the ability to direct traffic and get the most of out his guests. Carlin, despite his radio experience, is much more of a loudmouth analyst. I happen to like him, most of the time, but he just doesn’t seem like the right fit.

I will say this, however. Carlin won’t be afraid to call out the team. Generally, I think that’s a good thing.

I like Matt Yallof! Nice story about Ojeda, Matt. It is really interesting all of the sagas of NY Mets, particularly from the 86 team that go out of good graces to different degrees with management and then are brought back into the fold. If I remember correctly, Ojeda left because he didn’t like the way things were being done in the minor league organization and said so publicly. Defnitely one of the heroes of 86. I still have issues with him from 88 when he was using his hedge trimmers and cut off his finger and probably cost us another championship in the process. Met luck and Ojeda stupidity.

Gotta agree 100% here oleo…seems like a very strange choice….other than the facts that he was already a network employee and obviously comes cheap compared to most, I cannot imagine how he got chosen….

The only possible silver lining is maybe there is some other, bigger, much better name who will come aboard next year, and they got him as an easy 1-year stop-gap? Otherwise I cannot imagine a more obnoxious choice…..

i can see why people think carlin is obnoxious. personally, i don’t think he’s that bad. that said, i have no idea why sny’s making him an anchor/host of this show. i see him much more of opinion-type guy than an anchor. he’s perfect for loudmouths but he’s not right for this venue

i cringed when that move was being reported back a couple months.

after a tough mets loss, matt yalloff had a great ‘bedside manner’. his attitude was slightly disappointed, curious what went wrong, hopeful for improvement.

    just what i needed.

now we’ll get bombastic fatty francessa junior. what are the puppetmaster’s at SNY thinking?

Carlin is all right. I believe he is a Texas Rangers fan. Agreed that Steve Somers would be great but he’s on FAN at that hour…

Yallof was ok… I wish chris Cotter was still at SNY and not Fox Business… Cotter was the best…

Mets really need to let Burkhardt do some Play by Play if Fox comes calling this season… He’s a star in the making…

I hope Bobby O wears glasses now, because he’s in for a steady stream of spittle from The Continent. Why do you thinks Schein wears them. I once saw this tub of lard at a Giants game doing his show wearing a white down parka. He looked like the Sta-Puff Marshallow man. If you want to know what Carlin’s opinion is going to be, then just listen to Francesa. What’s with the infatuation with all these WFAN guys. I would rather look at Steve Somers on TV, then watch Carlin try to get his fat tongue out of his piehole. Other than that, he’s ok!!

In the entire world they could not find a Mets fan to fill the spot. Everyone should complain to SNY about finding someone who:
    1. we know is a Mets fan
    2. has a chin
