Why is SNY not showing the game ?

  2. GravediggerHebner says:

It’s good to hear Howie back on the radio.

    • Wanny2 says:

Watching him on isles broadasts is tough for several reasons:

      1. His radio face;
      2. Watching the Isles is tough no matter who the announcer is;
      3. “Matteau Matteau Matteau!!!”

    • The Slider says:

Unfortunately, it has to be along with Wayne Hagin. I want Eddie C. in and Hagin out.

  3. jamie says:

I wonder if LC is the permanent 8th hitter. I think (I think) I’d rather see him hitting 7th, in either lineup (v. L or R)

    • Wanny2 says:

I believe that Manuel’s reasoning for Castillo in the 8th spot is that his speed and OBP would help set up Reyes at the top of the order with he pitcher bunting him over.

Whereas Schneider would only clog up the basepaths, couldn’t score from second on a single anyway and has more pop to offer in the 7th slot than Castillo.

I don’t disagree with Manuel. But I do think Schneider is a terrible 7th hitter, even if he is a better choice than Castillo.

      • reillys5 says:

then why not bat him 9th?

        • Wanny2 says:

I don’t recall seeing the question posed to Manuel.

But I would not do it because you then have the pitcher batting more times than a guy who gets on base at a .350 or greater clip and who may be batting with guys like Beltran or Church on base. These guys, Beltran expecially, get on base at a fairly good rate and it would be a waste to have them on base with the pitcher up and two outs.

          • reillys5 says:

thats a good call…i remember the thought of castillo batting 9th wen they were talking about batting him lead off…i think it would make sense then…we wouldnt start the game, but he wud be a table setter for reyes for the rest of the game

      • jamie says:

color me unimpressed. BS wouldn’t slug him in, but his (BS’s) obp is the only thing he’s got going for him. seems to me he’s clogging the paths wherever you put him. Why not let the fast obp guy hit in front of him (if you’re not gonna hit that fast obp guy leadoff), hope the decent obp catcher moves him over, and let JR knock him in w/2 outs?

…for a difference of, like, five runs over the course of the season…

can we please start the season?

  4. Flushing_is_Burning says:

Hey actual boxscore!! not the ones that are stuck at an inning for 2 hours. The season is getting close!

  5. vic79 says:

I am good with this lineup………so what is the AAA depth?

off the top of my head

OF- Macowiak, Sullivan, Kielty, Pagan (hurt)
    If- A.Reyes, Malo, Martinez(hurt I think )
    C- Cancel, Rivera

    SP- Niese, Garcia, Figueroa, Robertson,Redding(hurt)

RP- Nieve, Takashi, Fossum, Snyder, Kunz, Dessens

who am I missing?…I know Evans is going down soon so he would be the main call up

  6. vic79 says:

add Knight as a SP and Muniz as a RP

  7. gruff says:

Rain is in the forecast for friday….
Rain is also in the forecast for Cincy on 4/6…

  8. Wanny2 says:

Slick fielding Uggla at it again.

    • NYMetsTalk says:

      HIS NAME IS DAN UGGLA.

God I hate that damn announcer.. i never saw a pic or anything of him before but i noticed he did some WBC games for MLBN and they showed a shot of him talking and he looks short like a little troll hahahahaha

  9. MetsFan4Decades says:

    My name is Dan Uggla….
Bases loaded, no one out on that last error by Uggla. Doesn’t look like Marlins defense in the infield is much better than last year.
But that kid in center, can’t remember his name, looks like someone who is gonna be real good out there.

And they just walked in a run. Mets 2-1.

  10. NYMetsTalk says:

solid game for Maine, they took him out after what I believe was 82 pitches.. so if this was an actual season game he would’ve gone 7 most likely, or at least into the 7th.. looks like Jerry is just trying to get his relievers to get used to getting an out and coming out to pitch another inning afterward.

  11. Philly Fan on Wall St. says:

    Boo-Yah Mutts Fans!

I’m back from a long winter, and ready for a WS Title Defense against the hapless Mutts!

    Let the season begin!!

    • NYMetsTalk says:

people like you make me laugh. a philthies fan on a METS blog.. yeah, makes loads of sense.. get over your ridiculous obsession toolbag.

    • metsfan941 says:

are you sure your name isnt “laid off philly fan on wall st?”

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Must be boring with your fellow Philly fans on your blogs. You keep coming back here. Met fan wannabe??

    • lagranderusty10 says:

hey the dou-che crew has arrived !!!

    • mouserdz says:

Philly Fan on Wall St is Jimmy Rollins.

Why are you obsessed with us?

      • lagranderusty10 says:

oh no not another animotion song !!! or a calvin klien commercial – “what lies between love and hate is jimmy rollins obsession!!” lol

    • GravediggerHebner says:

Ahh, Mr. Wall St. is back. How’s the destruction of the world’s economy going?

Always with the “Mutts” thing. I guess the dictionary definition of mutt is a negative and potentially upsetting thing, but I always think of mutt as “mixed breed” which pretty much applies to everyone in this country and is hardly derogatory, so it doesn’t bother me. You’ll have to do better than that.

Congratulations on your favorite team’s world championship, and don’t forget to file your New York City and State income taxes, we need to pay for our new stadium!

      • lagranderusty10 says:

like i said heb the leader of the dou-che crew has arrived .. just wonder where all the other philthy trolls are ? btw juan berenguer says hola!

    • Stockton College Mets Fan says:

      LLWS CHAMPS! (love that one)

  12. scoopcoopdoop says:

Just like OP’s start last nite I would not get too overly optimistic about Maine tonite.

His line looks pretty good until you look at the B/S ratio-not too great. The Marlins are free swingers which help him make it thru 5.2 in 82 pitches.

But he is healthy and that is what is most important.

  13. MetsFan4Decades says:

Good, fundies (as Keith puts it) this spring with the Mets. Moving runners over, sac flies, going 1st to 3rd on a single or misplayed balls. Jerry’s approach seems to be paying off.

And Murphy continues to play well. Even though he’s not fast by any means, he just went 1st to 3rd on that hit. He’s a smart base runner, always paying attention, taking every advantage.

    • scoopcoopdoop says:

It certainly appears that Manuel has gotten the players attention playing the small ball stuff which I have always felt is needed when you go up against the better pitching and why if the Mets make the playoffs it will pay off big b/c that is when you play against the teams with the best pitching..

      • lagranderusty10 says:

hey metsfan4decades how are u tonite my lady? i just had emergency root canal – so i couldnt get my this dat tid bits done tonite

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

I was wondering, you know I love those posts from you. And man, that is not fun. Been there, done that. Hope they gave you some real good drugs.

Dealing with a ‘family’ emergency myself. For those of us that consider our pets family….
My 95 lb golden retriever blew out her right back knee. Crushtive ligament ruptured, but the miniscus tendon intact (thinking of Santana).
They told us they don’t repair these ligaments in humans unless they are a professional athlete but with a dog, it’s the only thing holding the knee together. So long story short, they put an implant in. It’s a whole lot of fun taking care of my big dog with no use of one leg right now. I’m just thankful they could do a repair….
So I’ve missed some games/posts these past few days myself, but listening to the game tonight. Glad to hear Maine is improving, although don’t think he’s quite there yet….

          • lagranderusty10 says:

oh jeez i feel for u – i got 2 ba$$et hounds so they are suceptable to hip displasure if they jump around too much – my thoughts go out to you and yer pup

          • jamie says:

that’s terrible, sorry to hear it. 2 1/2 dogs in my house, and they’re mos def family

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Thanks, Rusty. Just love my dogs….
She’s only 4, but this was caused by mild hip dysplaysia that lead to arthritis of both hips which lead to the knee injury……

          • lagranderusty10 says:

yeah i understand – my sister just had her king charles cavalier in for a hip surgery – the hip dislodged from the socket – i know it is different from what your pup had but still its always tough when a dog is in pain – they are family – btw my docgs names are flash and picabu – i named flash my wife names picabu lol

  14. Alex R. says:

A philly fan I see?no good philly blog to be corny on?Anyways anyone know how maine did tonite?

    • scoopcoopdoop says:

His line was good but would have liked to have seen better B/S ratio.

Against the Marlins you can get them to swing at just about anything. It won’t work against the Phils, Braves, Yanks to name a few.

      • lagranderusty10 says:

true but at least he was more effective than last game

        • scoopcoopdoop says:

just tempering expectations. I see Maine winning 10-12. He does not have an out pitch unless his slider or change can improve over the season since he shelved the curve with his mechanics and head messed up.

  15. lagranderusty10 says:

sounds like maine did well now

  16. lagranderusty10 says:

i got my tixx in the mail today !! and the $iti field replica was a nice touch – btw guys we did get a media guide – contrary to the rumors i heard

  17. lagranderusty10 says:

btw how did the mets score runs 5 to 7?

  18. Alex R. says:

I got ripped off by vivid seats for my citi field opening day tickets =(

  19. lagranderusty10 says:

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

      There it is…
Just keep taking those good drugs, Rusty. Makes everything so much better. I’m willing to bet anyone over the age of 30 on this blog has had that same experience at least once…

      • lagranderusty10 says:

yeah im on novicane – about to take some codene – just wish i had some hydro and wild turkey lol j/k

    • Metfreak says:

      What about Mo Vaugn

      • lagranderusty10 says:

oh thats right AND ON THIS DAY IN ‘02 THE METS CUT MO when the wilpons saw that alka seltzer nor brioche was not covered under their insurance plans – so they decided to cut bait lol

  20. MetsFan4Decades says:

hahaha – an inside the park HR for Melo. I didn’t even know who this kid was a week ago. Seems to have got some timely hits in the past week.

  21. lagranderusty10 says:

i think malo might get called up later in the year – inside the parker !!!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Don’t know much about him myself. Gotta go look him up. But I do think he played second in a game sometime this past week……

      • lagranderusty10 says:

i responded to your post above 4decades – my thoughts go out to u and your dog

        • MetsFan4Decades says:

Saw it and thanks much. We knew this was a very real possibility and did everything we could to avoid it but to no avail…..

          • lagranderusty10 says:

oh – im so sorry – i can’t comprehend what you are going through yet – i dread that day

  22. GravediggerHebner says:

I did distinctly hear the radio guys did say it was Malo, but Gameday says it was Jeremy Reed who hit the inside the parker.

  23. lagranderusty10 says:

    oh right putz !!!!

    • Hazmet says:

Rusty, stop insulting the Philly Wall Street fan. Ohhhh you meant our setup man, sorry.

Feel better. Double root canal, ouch.

  24. lagranderusty10 says:

btw junior spivey we hardley knew ye lol

  25. MetsFan4Decades says:

Score 9-2. 25 man roster set. BP is so much better on paper than what we saw last year. Johan is the man. Offense looking good. Players looking fit and healthy.
I am so ready for the season to start.

    Let’s Go Mets !!

  26. Alex R. says:

Nah rusty does bastard made me buy $250 per ticket and they came and say $27 on them.I was like wtf did I just get ripped off big time or what?lol so I’m never getting tickets from there ever again

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

Well, that just sux if you’re serious….

    • lagranderusty10 says:

yeah u got ripped – but at least u can say u were there for the first year of gil hodges memorial stadium at shea field

    • Metfreak says:

I know how you feel I paid 189 for 2 tickets for Sat game against Boston and when I got them they were 7.00 each

      • lagranderusty10 says:

i got mine for 20 bucks a head – but thats because i know the guy and his familiy owns a ticket broker buissness – but still i got my 15 game sat plan so i am happy

    • GravediggerHebner says:

That is horrible! Thank you for telling the story though, because I will never purchase tickets through that agency.

  27. Alex R. says:

Thank god I’m a die hard mets fan but na I’m saving the ticket and showing my kids when I have them =)

  28. lagranderusty10 says:

    i hope putz is ok

  29. ericloz says:

    Putz has a pulled fingernail?

  30. NYMetsTalk says:

im not listening to the audio, what happened to putz?!!

  31. altru426 says:

    INJURY DELAYYYY
PUTZ PLEASE TELL ME YOU ARE OKAYYYY

  32. GravediggerHebner says:

Well, at least the Putz issue is a fingernail thing that he says happens every spring training. So this spring we’ve learned that David Wright needs a pedicure and JJ Putz needs a manicure.

  33. lagranderusty10 says:

    nite guys see ya’s tomorrow

  34. GravediggerHebner says:

    Put it in the books!

    • MetsFan4Decades says:

And I never get tired of hearing that.

Mets go to 500 for ST. Not that it means anything. Just looking better and better this past week with more of the regular roster playing and players fit and ready to go….

  35. MetsFan4Decades says:

    Rusty: saw your post above.
Love those names – flash and picabu. Not your usual dog names. Mine is sophie.

    • lagranderusty10 says:

thanks – i got flash from the dukes of hazzard – my wife named picabu after the skier plus the floppy ears

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

LOL – flash from Dukes of Hazard. Wish I could say I was too young to remember that……

    • Hazmet says:

Good luck MF4D, hope everything works out. That’s gotta be rough, big dog to handle through this.

We have a cockapoo named Bingo, the moral of the story is never let your 4 year old name your dog….and yes their definitely family.

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

        Thanks. Appreciate the well wishes.
A cockapoo named Bingo. That must be real fun for your 4 year old.

        • Hazmet says:

Thanks. Only problem is my daughters 9 now and still wants to sit on him. Thank god they love kids.

Good luck again, try and get your rest through it and don’t stress too bad.

  36. lagranderusty10 says:

    bring on the philths !!!

    • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

Hey buddy—-I hope you are feeling OK…I am enjoying some Woodford Reserve tonight, and highly recommend it along with the codeine!

      Seriously, hope you feel OK…

JJ faced 2 batters and struck them out and KRod faced 3 and Kd 2…this is going to be a fun year….

  37. Alex R. says:

The mets were pick to win the world series? Lol I heard about it on sportsnite.I ask myself why can’t people say the mets could win 100+ because with the bullpen of this year they def would of win over 100+ games.

  38. MetsFan4Decades says:

Ouch – Putz with a split fingernail on throwing his split finger pitch.
Good news though is he says it’s something he deals with every spring.

    • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

Hey First Lady of Metsblog—I wish the best to your doggie…..

      • MetsFan4Decades says:

Thanks, Kingman. You guys on this blog are some real nice folks…..During my dating days, I always trusted any guy who liked animals. Those that hated my dogs didn’t get a second date – hahahaha.

        • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

That is funny—the closest I have come to getting married, my ex-girlfriend for years in Seattle—warmed up to me at first because of how well I got along with her dog, a black lab/rottweiler mix, a real sweet dog…she looked beautiful and sounded vicious but was a sweetheart (the dog AND my ex-girlfriend!)

  39. We’re gonna win a billion games this year.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

      Thanks Carl Sagan!

    • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

Damn SI prediciton! I am going to be in Vegas in 10 days and want to bet a bundle on the Mets over in the total wins, and this crap is just going to make that number go up!!

  40. reillys5 says:

kingman – you hear the news? willy mo pena was released! anothertypicalmetfan must be doing back flips !! lol

    • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

Haha reilly! I have to admit, I did think of anothetypical when I saw the news!

JJ and Krod–faced 5 batters and struck out 4 tonight!

And SI picks us to win it all…

We WILL do this in 09!!

      • darknova says:

You realize you claim the Mets will win it all, right? The team that enjoys redefining the term “spectacular failure”? I wish I could have your optimism… they’ve just beaten the last bit of it out of me. Still hopeful, but they have a ton to prove to me. I won’t be optimistic until we’ve clinched the division.

        • Brock Landers aka The Original Kingman 26 says:

Well, it is a bit more of a hope than a claim or a prediction, but I am sincerely optimistic with the changes we have made to what was a flawed, but very good, team the last two years….

I think I will become seriously confident if we get off to a good start the first few weeks, as I believe that with Johan and KRod and JJ added to what we already had in 2006 and 2007 we are going to have a really successful year. I am of the thought that the pen not only destroyed many wins last year, but destroyed everyone else’s confidence—it put way too much pressure on the starters to be perfect and the hitters to hit homers every at bat after the 6th inning.

And I am probably a bit older than you maybe—I am 42, and growing up the the 1977-83 Mets finishing 5th or 6th every year set the bar so low that the last two years, while horrifying, did not beat the optimism out of me. If we miss the postseason this year, that will probably finally change….

          • darknova says:

I’m 26, so I was 4 when they won their last series (was more interested in Transformers than baseball at the time), started watching baseball and the Mets in 1990, and suffered through the early 90s teams. That wasn’t a good way to start as a fan. :( Sure, this year’s team looks good, and could definitely go all the way, but it wouldn’t take many of our question marks becoming busts to lead this team to 86 wins and a third place finish. Blah, I feel like I need a beer already…

  41. Stockton College Mets Fan says:

“The trolls come marching one by one horah, horah”

  42. Murphyformvp says:

Would David Wright for Lincecum be a good trade? Omar should do that.

  43. vic79 says:

So what is the depth in AAA……….asked before but then we had tons of responses on this thread

SP- Niese, Figueroa, Garcia, Robertson, Knight, Redding/hurt

RP- Kunz, Muniz, Nieve, Dessens, Takashi, Fossum,Snynder

    OF- Kielty, Sullivan , Mackowiak, , Pagan//hurt

    IF- Malo, A.Reyes, Abreau

What else is down at AAA? and when do they finalize that roster?
