Read: NYC Food Guy on Food in Citi Field
By Matthew Cerrone - Apr 2, 2009 11:20 am

On Tuesday, Citi Field introduced chefs Danny Meyer, Drew Nieporent and Dave Pasternackin at a tasting to feature food and drinks that will be served in the new ballpark.

The NYC Food Guy does a wonderful job recapping the event, while giving a mouth-watering explanation of the type of food we can expect to eat in Citi Field, from tacos to pulled pork, to porchetta to mac and cheese with panchetta, from skirt steak to burgers to sausage and peppers.

for what it’s worth, i have yet to find a fan who has been to Citi Field who has not raved about the food… the thing is, i wonder how skirt steak will turn a double play and hit in the clutch

Speaking of Citi Field…

According to the New York Times, “The Major League Baseball Players Association on Friday will open its first retail outlet devoted to selling player-only merchandise,” in Citi Field.

Lastly, in a post to their baseball blog, Richard Sandomir answered reader questions about Citi Field and the new Yankee Stadium in the comments section of this post to the New York Times.

Oohhh good call…I’m going to order a skirt steak every time the Mets need a double play or a clutch hit…I may gain 100 lbs…but I’m willing to take one for the team! :)

Looks good, but just give me a decent dog and a beer, and I’m fine. I’m there to watch a game, after all.

    • jimyager says:

Good Call. I paid 50 bucks a seat to watch the game, NOT, eat. A Hot Dog, Peanuts and Cracker Jacks are all I need. If I wanted to go out and eat, I would not go to a game. Who really decides to go to a game because of the food? Yo don;t, its to see the game. Lets go Mets. 2009, THERE WILL NEVER BE A BATTER TIME.

      • Ceetar says:

That’s fine, show up in the second, leave by the 8th. Enjoy the game. Some of us are there day after day, and even come for batting practice. Do that regularly, spend 8 hours at the park, and you’re going to want some real food.

Or how the fruitcake at second base will hit.

Or how the aged Angus lefthanded pinch hitter is done, so stick a fork in him.

Or how the lumpy gravy fifth starter will taste every five days.

so long as they still have the chicken tenders with nathan;s fries combo – I’m good

for my first few games of the friday night pack – i will gladly sample the new options.

    • shamsky says:

They do have them, for $62.50. Sauce/ketchup are extra. But you can buy the season package sauce plan at $725.00.

There are plenty of concessions stands serving Dogs, Chicken Sandwiches and Hamburgers…

The variety of food on the menus is incredible… Similar to very other new park… I just hope the concessions staff works as well as in other places…

  5. foul bunt strikeout says:

boy if you eat al of this new food, don’t gte a coffee while at the game…

No need for your GI tract to have a bases clearing triple during a good game

  6. janss36 says:

The ballpark is amazing and pics do it no justice… As for the game, there is going to be a lot of walkers out along the concourse the first few weeks of the season…

Watching from the Standing Room areas outside of each section is phenominal…

  7. Ceetar says:

Matt working on the site layout? Everything jumping all over on me! ;-)

Love the new foods. Remember, Citi Field will be there for years, you don’t have to try _everything_ in your first go around.

Except the beer. I will be trying at least the (2?) Citi Field exclusive beers on Saturday.

    • janss36 says:

4… Each of the Danny Meyer places has it’s own specialty Brooklyn Beer…

      • NYCFoodGuy.com says:

        Janss36,
As far as I know, each of the Danny Meyer spots, with the exception of Blue Smoke, will have their own beer.

That means special beers at Shake Shack, Catch of the Day (Fish stand), Box Frites, and El Verano Taqueria.

Two are already in action: Shackmeister Ale for Shake Shack and Sabroso Ale for El Verano Taqueria, which will have hints of orange and cinnamon to go with the meats and sauces in the tacos.

        • Justintime says:

Speciality beers I’ve read about thus far include:

          Shakemeister

          Blue Smoke Original Ale

          Sabroso Ale

Not too sure about the others yet.

          • Ceetar says:

There’s a something Queens ale at the Frites place.

The Blue Smoke and Shackmeister are both at those restaurants, but I think the other two, the Brooklyn Sabroso and the Queens whatever aren’t sold _anywhere_ else.

(Oh, and apparently Shake Shack is opening in Philly. Apparently they can’t get enough of us :-))

          • janss36 says:

Yeah, apparently there is a Belgian style beer at Box Frites.

is opening day gonna get rained/snowed out? weather looks absolutely horrible in cinci!

  9. mikeyrad says:

You mean they’re going to be playing baseball at the restaurants?

  10. NYCFoodGuy.com says:

    Matt,
Thanks for the great write up and the link. Much appreciated.

    • foul bunt strikeout says:

terrific coverage/writeup of the food situation…

i actually might print out some sections from that, fold it up and have it my pocket as my food guide

  11. queensbred says:

Matt or anybody know what vegetarian/vegan options they will be offering?

Most other stadiums I have travelled to now carry veggie dogs and/or veggie burgers.

I keep hearing about all this delicious food for meat eaters, but as a life long Mets fan and long time vegan I hope they sell veggie dogs.

  12. Tbear1 says:

In the early going, it looks like Citi Field is going to have Yankee Stadium beat food wise. We have NY icons Danny Meyer doing multiple spots (Shake Shack!) and Drew Neopoirent (master of the restaurant universe) and Pasternak (fish guru – lobster rolls, beer and baseball works for me). The Yankees have a Hard Rock Cafe (ugh, so does every half-ass town in America) and something called NYY Steak, run by the Hard Rock cooperation. The whole feel is TOO corporate over there.

  13. MDmets says:

    Do they still sell knishes?
