Tonight the Mets will play their first game in Citi Field with the first of two exhibition games versus the Red Sox, starting at 6:10 p.m. EDT.
Last night following their flight from Florida, which was delayed two and half hours, the Mets got first look inside their new home.
Ben Shpigel of the New York Times reports on the initial reactions of many players on their new digs, which ranged from ‘wow’ to overwhelming, and provides an interesting tidbit on Daniel Murphy seeking out the new batting cages, of course.
The New York Times has also provided a variety of multimedia looks of Citi Field, including a panorama, here, and an interactive look at the amenities inside Citi Field, here.
Tonight’s game will be broadcast locally on SNY. Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. EDT with KFC Pre-Game Live.

I wonder what happens if its rained out. I bought 12 tickests :(
According to accuweather, the rain is supposed to stop by 7pm and start again by 11pm so, there is a chance the game won't be rained out.
well at least you get to check out the new stadium i mean ballpark.
Weather isn't looking too promising for the game tonight….
Anybody think this game will actually happen tonight?
I'm very excited to see the new stadium tonight!
I think we all are. :-) I can compare it to Christmas; anxiously waking up to open presents.
R U going to the game?
Amazinmets,
Unfortunately, I am unable to attend. I'll be there in spirit. I do look forward to finally visiting Citi sometime this summer. From the sounds of it, CitiField will be a great ballpark.
I am just lucky to go… got a couple of free tickets through a friend… I'm looking forward to finding my brick…
hmmm. New comments section. I think I like it, but I can't be sure yet.
Murphy: The kid almost seems to good to be true. I hope he is not doing things like this just to have an image. I hope it's genuine. Because if it is he will be a special player.
i don't know if you are a hockey fan, but there is a kid on the Rangers just like that named Brandon Dubinsky.
The kid has all the tools but sometimes he seems more interested in being a fan-favorite then being a goal scorer…although baseball is different, even if it is all an act (which i'm not saying it is at all) he either hits or he doesnt. there really isnt much else…
ugh i think someone took my original name…….
really? Are all names brand new?
lol. What i was referring to was registering with intensedebate. I tried registering Dirtysanchez but it said that name was taken.
Are you sure you didn't previously register yourself at some time? I tried to register my usual name too – said the same thing. –Only to find out the login worked with my password so I must have registered at some point…
yea i tried that out but it still said it was taken. I tried to get my password and it said my email was not in their database :(
Oh, i wonder who liked your name so much to steal it…
me too.
That's why I am "Thereal" someone took my name the last time Matt switched up. I had had "Since86" since the early days of the site and had to switch. I had a chance to go back today and did not now. I kind of like the new name.
Haha…I had to shorten my name….Too long!!
ah ok….so i soon will become TheRealDirtySanchez as my next installment when matt switches up lol j/k ;p
LOL, I remember the day I had to switch. Man I was angry because I knew it was one of the trolls I had been battling with that took it.
Karma
This actually gives me the opportunity to take a version of my old name back. I used to be Charlie, but for some reason that stopped working. So, I took casey s. (for my son and the original manager). I tried for charlie, but someone already took that. So, charlie_s it is.
I do. If the weather report is correct.
I think they'll get at least some of the game in. Enough so that everyone can check out the new stadium, anyway.
Oh, and Matt: Thumbs up on the layout and commenting system. Like it a lot, definitely much improved.
That is really cool…I actually got chills reading it.
Mlb.tv is also allowing users to view these two games against Boston as a free sample.
FOR REAL!!! Great tip thanks
I hope there is enough dry weather to fit in the game, but does not look good.
i say no way. noone is going to risk getting hurt in an exhibition game…
Welcome to the big leagues ladies and gentleman loll
I mean, not that this was even affordable, but a retractable roof would have been nice right about now.
The game, according to the Mets' call-in rainout information, is still scheduled to be played at 6:10 p.m. My opinion: If the game is called due to inclimate weather, the tickets will be reimbursed. However, the Mets are going to make a lot of money within the next to days, even with the two games against the Red Sox being exhibitions, so I doubt that they will so quick to call one off. Plus, this is a good test for the field to see how it holds up in this kind of weather – whether or not it is capable of withstanding all the water, ware and tear during a ballgame. Let's all hope for the best. I got seats in the Pepsi Porch!
Would you mind sharing that Mets call-in rainout info # with the rest of us? Thanks Dean.
1-718-507-RAIN
they had that test last week with the St. Johns game. Steady rain over night. There didn't seem to be a big issue on the field. For those of you going watch where you walk, there are A LOT of drainage issues on the concourse
Weather looking good for tonights game! Several reports indicate the rain is moving out, and a look at the National Weather Service's Water Vapor loop shows a columb of dry air headed right in our direction! I made an animated gif here –> dumped-archives.ath.cx/weather_anim.gif
NWS Java loops here –> http://www.weather.gov/sat_loop.php?image=wv&hours=2...
The other thing about a weather event is the Mets get to test what the fans will do during delays (i.e. walk around, seek shelter, buy more things, etc.). A test of another condition, not just a game.
I completely agree charlie_s. And is it me? But I live on the in Suffolk County and it seems as if the clouds are a bit transparent – because there is a bunch of light shining thru.
DirtyPutz now…
lolll…who you callin a putz!!! lol j/k
Maybe I should change mine to TRS86 that's what most people respond with.
yeah that's nice and simple.. maybe i should change mine to kistina…lol i'm sure alex will love it
speaking of alex, ASSUME that David Wright is UNCLUTCH??
Hello Kistina … ha ha ha
I knew it HAD to be you Alex. Welcome back and to the new comment section. Where all past transgretions are forgotten and new ones formed. LOL.
This is not alex, it is mr bill.
maybe they're same person… have 2 windows opened up and calling themselves a core…
Looks like it's going to be pretty windy for Saturday's game, that should be interesting to see how Citifield plays in a stiff breeze!
Well lets see how I like the new handle.
it's pretty much what we all call you anyway…
btw, charlie_s = casey s.
Interesting article in the post today about the new Yankee Stadium. It pretty much says what a lot of people on here have been saying about it:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/04032009/sports/yanke...
Lets see, Ollie's pitching right? That should not bother his pinpoint accuracy.
What is this +1 thing and 1p 2p stuff?
I think the plus on the right is when people click on the thumbs up for your comment, and the score by your name is either total posts, or total thumbs ups from others….
ah.. i have +1 .. who would give me thumbs up on my posts???
alex would have negative number then…
Haha! And of course, TRS is already in the lead for thumbs ups!!
i clicked thumbs up on your post and +1 became +2… I think 10p 12p shows number of posts… gee.. it's not like we don't know how much time we spend on this site… Matt had to let us know how many posts we have..
I think we'll all reach 1000s in a week or so..lol
I have no idea how it works. Like I said, I don't see a number for Kingman.
Gottcha, I think all of us that change our name should let each other know. Many of us have been on here a long time and wonder where you went.
I agree. I've been on since '05 and have the following name changes:
charlie to casey s. to charlie_s
lol.. i knew you were alex too..
damn i almost thought you were gone
Anyone know what time gates open for tonight's game?
Per Mets.com, gates open at 3:40PM
No, it is not alex…I can tell and I would think TRS can too….it is definitely mr bill/the core…he seems to be behaving a bit better, as he maybe wants to stick around this time….
As TRS said, let's bury the hatchets and forget old transgressions—and start new ones!!
Hey anne
Mr. Alex Bill the Core….
That NY Times article about the players walking around CITI has me excited that the players are excited.
For some reason it's not showing your points Kingman.
this is just a thought, but maybe the #p show number of posts, but it gets adjusted up or down based on the thumbs up or down?
if you mouse over the #p it tells you its a reputation score, tracking the number of thumbs up and thumbs down.
Apples!
Did anybody get free tickets for this sunday pre season workout ?
Hey everyone. If you are interested in knowing the Mets' rainout information hotline, it is on the back of your tickets. If you have printed out the tickets, the number is as follows: 1-718-507-RAIN …. Let's Go Mets!
