Note: Mets To Open Citi Field Tonight

By Mike Nichols on Apr 03, 2009, 9:00 am

Tonight the Mets will play their first game in Citi Field with the first of two exhibition games versus the Red Sox, starting at 6:10 p.m. EDT.

Last night following their flight from Florida, which was delayed two and half hours, the Mets got first look inside their new home.

Ben Shpigel of the New York Times reports on the initial reactions of many players on their new digs, which ranged from ‘wow’ to overwhelming, and provides an interesting tidbit on Daniel Murphy seeking out the new batting cages, of course.

The New York Times has also provided a variety of multimedia looks of Citi Field, including a panorama, here, and an interactive look at the amenities inside Citi Field, here.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast locally on SNY. Coverage begins at 5:30 p.m. EDT with KFC Pre-Game Live.

According to accuweather, the rain is supposed to stop by 7pm and start again by 11pm so, there is a chance the game won't be rained out.

          Amazinmets,

Unfortunately, I am unable to attend. I'll be there in spirit. I do look forward to finally visiting Citi sometime this summer. From the sounds of it, CitiField will be a great ballpark.

Murphy: The kid almost seems to good to be true. I hope he is not doing things like this just to have an image. I hope it's genuine. Because if it is he will be a special player.

i don't know if you are a hockey fan, but there is a kid on the Rangers just like that named Brandon Dubinsky.

The kid has all the tools but sometimes he seems more interested in being a fan-favorite then being a goal scorer…although baseball is different, even if it is all an act (which i'm not saying it is at all) he either hits or he doesnt. there really isnt much else…

That's why I am "Thereal" someone took my name the last time Matt switched up. I had had "Since86" since the early days of the site and had to switch. I had a chance to go back today and did not now. I kind of like the new name.

This actually gives me the opportunity to take a version of my old name back. I used to be Charlie, but for some reason that stopped working. So, I took casey s. (for my son and the original manager). I tried for charlie, but someone already took that. So, charlie_s it is.

The game, according to the Mets' call-in rainout information, is still scheduled to be played at 6:10 p.m. My opinion: If the game is called due to inclimate weather, the tickets will be reimbursed. However, the Mets are going to make a lot of money within the next to days, even with the two games against the Red Sox being exhibitions, so I doubt that they will so quick to call one off. Plus, this is a good test for the field to see how it holds up in this kind of weather – whether or not it is capable of withstanding all the water, ware and tear during a ballgame. Let's all hope for the best. I got seats in the Pepsi Porch!

they had that test last week with the St. Johns game. Steady rain over night. There didn't seem to be a big issue on the field. For those of you going watch where you walk, there are A LOT of drainage issues on the concourse

Weather looking good for tonights game! Several reports indicate the rain is moving out, and a look at the National Weather Service's Water Vapor loop shows a columb of dry air headed right in our direction! I made an animated gif here –> dumped-archives.ath.cx/weather_anim.gif

NWS Java loops here –> http://www.weather.gov/sat_loop.php?image=wv&hours=2...

    Apr 03, 2009, 1:36 pm at 1:36 pm #

The other thing about a weather event is the Mets get to test what the fans will do during delays (i.e. walk around, seek shelter, buy more things, etc.). A test of another condition, not just a game.
